Abstract
The study of nanoparticles has emerged as a prominent research field, offering a wide range of applications across various disciplines. With their unique physical and chemical properties within the size range of 1-100 nm, nanoparticles have garnered significant attention. Among them, magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) exemplify promising super-magnetic characteristics, especially in the 10-20 nm size range, making them ideal for swift responses to applied magnetic fields. In this comprehensive review, we focus on MNPs suitable for analytical purposes. We investigate and classify them based on their analytical applications, synthesis routes, and overall utility, providing a detailed literature summary. By exploring a diverse range of MNPs, this review offers valuable insights into their potential application in various analytical scenarios.

Abstract
In this paper, a magnetic nanoparticle surface molecularly imprinted polydopamine RRS probe Fe3O4@MIP was prepared using phosphomolybdic acid (PMo) as the template, Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles as the substrate and dopamine hydrochloride (PD) as the monomer and crosslinking agent for the determination of PO43-. Under acidic conditions, phosphomolybdic acid is formed by the reaction of PO43- with ammonium molybdate (MSA), which can be imprinted with the Fe3O4@MIP probe surface and reduced to phosphomolybdic blue (PMoB) by ascorbic acid (Aa). Strong resonance Rayleigh scattering energy transfer (RRS-ET) occurs between the probe and PMoB, resulting in a decrease in the RRS signal value. A new, simple and selective RRS method for the determination of PO43- in water samples was developed. The linear range of this method is 1-22.5 μmol L-1, and the detection limit (DL) is 0.49 μmol L-1. Furthermore, the magnetic enrichment ability of Fe3O4@MIP is discussed. Experimental data show that even 0.2 μmol L-1 of phosphate can be detected within a 20% error range.

Abstract
The cultured meat industry is continuously evolving due to the collective efforts of cultured meat companies and academics worldwide. Though still technologically limited, recent reports of regulatory approvals for cultured meat companies have initiated the standards-based approach towards cultured meat production. Incidents of deception in the meat industry call for fool-proof authentication methods to ensure consumer safety, product quality, and traceability. The cultured meat industry is not exempt from the threats of food fraud. Meat authentication techniques based on DNA, protein, and metabolite fingerprints of animal meat species needs to be evaluated for their applicability to cultured meat. Technique-based categorization of cultured meat products could ease the identification of appropriate authentication methods. The combination of methods with high sensitivity and specificity is key to increasing the accuracy and precision of meat authentication. The identification of markers (both physical and biochemical) to differentiate conventional meat from cultured meat needs to be established to ensure overall product traceability. The current review briefly discusses some areas in the cultured meat industry that are vulnerable to food fraud. Specifically, it targets the current meat and meat product authentication tests to emphasize the need for ensuring the traceability of cultured meat.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are synthetic receptors that mimic the specificity of biological antibody-antigen interactions. By using a "lock and key" process, MIPs selectively bind to target molecules that were used as templates during polymerization. While MIPs are typically prepared using conventional monomers, such as methacrylic acid and acrylamide, contemporary advancements have pivoted towards the functional potential of dopamine as a novel monomer. The overreaching goal of the proposed review is to fully unlock the potential of molecularly imprinted polydopamine (MIPda) within the realm of cutting-edge sensing applications. This review embarks by shedding light on the intricate tapestry of materials harnessed in the meticulous crafting of MIPda, endowing them with tailored properties. Moreover, we will cover the diverse sensing applications of MIPda, including its use in the detection of ions, small molecules, epitopes, proteins, viruses, and bacteria. In addition, the main synthesis methods of MIPda, including self-polymerization and electropolymerization, will be thoroughly examined. Finally, we will examine the challenges and drawbacks associated with this research field, as well as the prospects for future developments. In its entirety, this review stands as a resolute guiding compass, illuminating the path for researchers and connoisseurs alike.

Abstract
Pangasius hypopthalmus is well known as a good source of protein. However, Pangasius hypopthalmus meat (PHM) can be adulterated with pork for economic concern, thus, analytical methods for authentication are required. Untargeted metabolomics and proteomics using liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) and chemometrics of principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least square-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) was successfully used to differentiate authentic and adulterated PHM with the good of fitness (R > 0.95) and good of predictivity (Q > 0.5). Metabolites of PC(o-18:0/18:2(9Z,12Z)) was found to be a potential marker for pork whereas DMPC (dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine) was a potential marker for PHM. Meanwhile, pork peptide marker of myoglobin (HPGDFGADAQGAMSK) and β-hemoglobin (FFESFGDLSNADAVMGNPK) could be identified. Both metabolomics and proteomics using LC-HRMS could detect pork at the lowest concentration level (0.5% w/w). In conclusion, untargeted metabolomics and proteomics using LC-HRMS in combination with chemometrics could be used as powerful methods to detect pork adulteration in fish meat.

Development of an optical immunoassay based on peroxidase-mimicking Prussian blue nanoparticles and a label-free electrochemical immunosensor for accurate and sensitive quantification of milk species adulteration. Abstract
In contrast to reported enzyme-based immunoassays, an enzyme-free immunoassay (optical and electrochemical) is presented here for the first time that can be used as point-of-need detection bioplatforms of bovine IgG as goat milk adulterant. In the first format, Prussian blue nanoparticles (PBNPs) were used as antibody catalytic labels in a competitive colorimetric microplate immunoassay. Absorbance measurement was performed photometrically at 450 nm. After in-depth optimization, excellent sensitivity was achieved (0.01% cow/goat volume ratio), which is 100 times lower than the limit allowed by the European legislation (EL) (1% v/v), thanks to the high catalytic activity of PBNPs compared with natural peroxidase. Moreover, the antibody-PBNPs bioconjugates showed excellent stability over 4 weeks (> 94% of the initial response) confirming the successful anchoring of the antibodies to the surface of the PBNPs. On the other hand, a label-free voltammetric immunoassay for the detection of bovine IgG was developed. The sensing principle was based on the hindrance of charge transfer between ferri-ferrocyanide redox couple and the screen-printed gold electrodes modified with bovine IgG antibody. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to characterize the step-by-step modification of the electrode surface. Under optimal conditions, this single-step electrochemical analysis achieved a high sensitivity of 0.1% (cow/goat) when monitoring the ferrocyanide oxidation at + 0.092 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The selectivity of the developed immunoassays was evaluated for different species of milk of similar composition, and both immunoassays exhibited a selective response only to bovine IgG. Unlike conventional immunoassays, the developed enzyme-free immunoassays have many attractive features for the detection of milk adulteration, whether they are used in quality control laboratories for routine milk analysis (optical immunoassay) or at on-site checkpoints (electrochemical immunoassay) using wireless electrochemical detectors. The sensors provide high sensitivity (≤ 0.1%), excellent precision (RSD < 6%), low cost (no enzyme is required) and ease of operation, including handling of milk samples.

Abstract
AbstractContemporary medicine suffers from many shortcomings in terms of successful disease diagnosis and treatment, both of which rely on detection capacity and timing. The lack of effective, reliable, and affordable detection and real‐time monitoring limits the affordability of timely diagnosis and treatment. A new frontier that overcomes these challenges relies on smart health monitoring systems that combine wearable sensors and an analytical modulus. This review presents the latest advances in smart materials for the development of multifunctional wearable sensors while providing a bird's eye‐view of their characteristics, functions, and applications. The review also presents the state‐of‐the‐art on wearables fitted with artificial intelligence (AI) and support systems for clinical decision in early detection and accurate diagnosis of disorders. The ongoing challenges and future prospects for providing personal healthcare with AI‐assisted support systems relating to clinical decisions are presented and discussed.

Abstract
Rapid, sensitive, and portable analytical methods for on-site inspection of food fraud are now an urgent requirement to ensure food quality and satisfy the ethnic considerations of consumers. Hence, for the first time, a colorimetric smartphone-based immunoassay was developed for the on-site detection of pork adulteration in meat. In detail, the immunoassay was based on a competitive strategy in which immobilized standard porcine IgG competed with the target porcine IgG extracted in a single step from meat samples. The parameters involved in each step of the immunoassay conception and the digital colorimetric detection were carefully investigated and optimized. Using polystyrene microplates as ready-to-use stable and portable immunoplatforms, TMB as chromogenic substrate, smartphone as signal readout, and Image J software for image processing; the developed immunoassay was able to detect as low as 0.01% of pork in meat mixtures in a total assay time of 30 min. The selectivity of the immunoassay was evaluated for different meat species, and it was shown to selectively respond only to pork. Furthermore, excellent stability of the prepared immunological platform was demonstrated under extreme temperature conditions (50 °C), which confirms its high portability potential for in situ quantification of pork, while being relatively cost effective and non-laborious. The developed method also provides great precision (RSD < 6%) and accuracy (relative error< 6%). Given the universal use of smartphones as portable and affordable devices, such format of immunoassay could be a promising approach for rapid and sensitive real-time monitoring of food fraud.

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has been recognized as a powerful tool for biosensors due to the ultrahigh sensitivity and unique fingerprint information. However, there are some limitations in trace target nucleic acid detection for the restricted signal-transducing and amplification strategies. Inspired by CRISPR/Cas12a with specific target DNA-activated collateral single-strand DNA (ssDNA) cleavage activity and liposome with signal molecule-loading properties, we first proposed a sensitive SERS-based on-site nucleic acid detection strategy mediated by CRISPR/Cas12a with trans-cleavage activity on ssDNA linkers utilized to capture liposomes. Liposomes loading two kinds of signal molecules, 4-nitrothiophenol (4-NTP) and cysteine, could achieve the dual-mode detection of target DNA with SERS and naked eye, respectively. The promptly amplified signals were initiated by the triggered breakdown of signal molecule-loaded liposomes. Emancipated 4-NTP, a biological-silent Raman reporter, would achieve highly selective and sensitive SERS measurement. Released cysteine induced the aggregation of plasmonic gold nanoparticles, leading to an obvious red to blue colorimetric shift to realize portable naked-eye detection. With this strategy, target nucleic acid concentration was dexterously converted into SERS and visualization signals and could be detected as low as 100 aM and 10 pM, respectively. The approach was also successfully applied to determine meat adulteration, achieving the detection of a low adulteration ratio in the complicated food matrix. We anticipate that this strategy will not only be regarded as a universal platform for the on-site detection of food authenticity but also broaden SERS application for the accurate determination of diverse biomarkers.

Abstract
In this study, we developed a lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) for the detection of pork additives in meat products. LFIA of porcine immunoglobulins (IgG) as a molecular biomarker was carried out in a sandwich format for species identification. Gold nanoparticles as a nano-dispersed label were conjugated to secondary antibodies specific to anti-porcine IgG. The test system was characterized by high specificity, which was confirmed by the absence of cross-reactivity with any other species tested. A short technique of sample preparation was proposed aimed at the effective extraction of IgG from meat samples. The developed LFIA enabled the detection of a pork ingredient at a level as low as 0.063% (w/w) in raw meat within 35 min including sample preparation. A large panel of real meat samples was analyzed by the LFIA. The results showed that porcine IgG can be reliably recognized both in raw meat products and processed meat foodstuffs.

Abstract
The authentication of animal species is an important issue due to an increasing trend of adulteration and mislabeling of animal species in processed meat products. Polymerase chain reaction is the most sensitive and specific technique for nucleic acid-based animal species detection. However, it is a time-consuming technique that requires costly thermocyclers and sophisticated labs. In recent times, there is a need of on-site detection by point-of-care (POC) testing methods and devices under low-resource settings. These POC devices must be affordable, sensitive, specific, user-friendly, rapid and robust, equipment free, and delivered to the end users. POC devices should also confirm the concept of micro total analysis system. This review discusses POC testing methods and devices that have been developed for meat species identification. Recent developments in lateral flow assay-based devices for the identification of animal species in meat products are also reviewed. Advancements in increasing the efficiency of lateral flow detection are also discussed.

Abstract
The addition or exchange of cheaper fish species instead of more expensive fish species is a known form of fraud in the food industry. This can take place accidentally due to the lack of expertise or act as a fraud. The interest in detecting animal species in meat products is based on religious demands (halal and kosher) as well as on product adulterations. Authentication of fish and meat products is critical in the food industry. Meat and fish adulteration, mainly for economic pursuit, is widespread and leads to serious public health risks, religious violations, and moral loss. Economically motivated adulteration of food is estimated to create damage of around € 8 to 12 billion per year. Rapid, effective, accurate, and reliable detection technologies are keys to effectively supervising meat and fish adulteration. Various analytical methods often based on protein or DNA measurements are utilized to identify fish and meat species. Although many strategies have been adopted to assure the authenticity of fish and meat and meat a fish products, such as the protected designation of origin, protected geographical indication, certificate of specific characteristics, and so on, the coverage is too small, and it is unrealistic to certify all meat products for protection from adulteration. Therefore, effective supervision is very important for ensuring the suitable development of the meat industry, and rapid, effective, accurate, and reliable detection technologies are fundamental technical support for this goal. Recently, several methods, including DNA analysis, protein analysis, and fat-based analysis, have been effectively employed for the identification of meat and fish species.

Abstract
Nanotechnology has become a topic of interest due to the outstanding advantages that the use of nanomaterials offers in many fields. Among them, magnetic nanoparticles (m-NPs) have been one of the most widely applied in recent years. In addition to the unique features of nanomaterials in general, which exclusively appear at nanoscale, these present magnetic or paramagnetic properties that result of great interest in many applications. In particular, in the area of food analysis, the use of these nanomaterials has undergone a considerable increase since they can be easily separated from the matrix in sorbent-based extractions, providing a considerable simplification of the procedures. This allows reducing cost and giving fast responses, which is essential in the food trade to guarantee consumer safety. These materials can also be easily tunable, providing higher selectivity. Moreover, their particular electrical, thermal and optical characteristics allow enhancing sensor signals, increasing the sensitivity of the approaches based on this type of device. The aim of this review article is to summarise the most remarkable applications of m-NPs in food analysis in the last five years (2016–2020) showing a general view of the use of such materials in the field.

Abstract
Meat adulteration, mainly for the purpose of economic pursuit, is widespread and leads to serious public health risks, religious violations, and moral loss. Rapid, effective, accurate, and reliable detection technologies are keys to effectively supervising meat adulteration. Considering the importance and rapid advances in meat adulteration detection technologies, a comprehensive review to summarize the recent progress in this area and to suggest directions for future progress is beneficial. In this review, destructive meat adulteration technologies based on DNA, protein, and metabolite analyses and nondestructive technologies based on spectroscopy were comparatively analyzed. The advantages and disadvantages, application situations of these technologies were discussed. In the future, determining suitable indicators or markers is particularly important for destructive methods. To improve sensitivity and save time, new interdisciplinary technologies, such as biochips and biosensors, are promising for application in the future. For nondestructive techniques, convenient and effective chemometric models are crucial, and the development of portable devices based on these technologies for onsite monitoring is a future trend. Moreover, omics technologies, especially proteomics, are important methods in laboratory detection because they enable multispecies detection and unknown target screening by using mass spectrometry databases.
