Abstract
A magnetic adsorbent based on a C-nanofiber (Fe3O4@C-NFs) nanocomposite was synthesized using a simple one-pot co-precipitation method. The characterized results showed that the obtained C-nanofiber-coated magnetic nanoparticles had many attractive features such as a large specific surface area and a highly interwoven and branched mesoporous structure, as well as distinguished magnetism. The nanocomposite was then used as an adsorbent in the magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of four typical tetracyclines (oxytetracycline, tetracycline, chlortetracycline, and doxycycline) in aquatic products. The TCs in the extract were determined using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). Experimental variables of MSPE, including the sorbent amount, pH condition, adsorption and desorption time, and desorption solvent, were investigated and optimized systematically. The method validation indicated that the developed method showed good linearity (R2 > 0.995) in the range of 1.0-200 ng/mL. The average recoveries at the spiked levels ranged from 90.7% to 102.7% with intra-day and inter-day relative standard deviations (RSDs, n = 6) ranging from 3.72% to 8.17% and 4.20% to 9.69%, respectively. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) for the four kinds of TCs were 0.7 μg/kg and 2.0 μg/kg, respectively. Finally, MSPE based on C-nanofiber-coated magnetic nanoparticles was successfully applied to TC analysis in real aquatic products (grass carp, large yellow croaker, snakehead, mandarin fish, Penaeus vannamei, swimming crab, etc.). Compared with traditional extraction methods, the proposed method for TC analysis in aquatic products is more sensitive, effective, recyclable, and environmentally friendly.

Abstract
An analytical method based on isotope dilution-liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (ID-LC‒MS/MS) was developed to accurately determine four representative tetracyclines (tetracycline, chlortetracycline, doxycycline, and oxytetracycline) in chicken meat. Tetracyclines are known to have a great tendency for epimerization and keto-enol tautomerism, which often provoke major challenges in their determination. Since this isomerization was found to be unavoidable during the whole chain of the current analysis, the total content (µg kg‒1) of individual tetracycline was quantified as a sum of each parent compound and its respective isomeric forms. Using this approach in combination with IDMS analysis, more consistent, accurate, and reproducible measurement results for the four tetracyclines in chicken meat were acquired. LC-MS/MS conditions and sample preparation processes were comprehensively optimized to minimize the chelating effect of tetracyclines and possible co-extracted interferences. Details of the sample preparation scheme, LC‒MS/MS detection, calculation equation, and method validation are described in this article. The method provided very good accuracy (97.7-102.6%) for all analytes across the concentration range of 10-200 µg kg‒1, with relative standard deviations for intra-day and inter-day precision of less than 4%. The limits of quantification were below 0.2 µg kg‒1, demonstrating the high sensitivity of the method. Furthermore, the measurement uncertainty was generally below 5.5%. Hence, the established method exhibits high-order metrological quality with superior performance over various existing methodologies. Moreover, this method can provide references for general food testing laboratories close to and far below the established maximum residue limits (100 µg kg‒1) for animal muscle tissues.

Concurrent Determination of Tigecycline, Tetracyclines and Their 4-Epimer Derivatives in Chicken Muscle Isolated from a Reversed-Phase Chromatography System Using Tandem Mass Spectrometry. Abstract
A quantitative and qualitative method using a high-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC–MS/MS) detection approach was developed and validated for the analysis of tigecycline, four tetracyclines and their three 4-epimer derivatives in chicken muscle. Samples were extracted repeatedly with 0.1 mol/L Na2EDTA–McIlvaine buffer solution. After vortexing, centrifugation, solid-phase extraction, evaporation and reconstitution, the aliquots were separated using a C8 reversed-phase column (50 mm × 2.1 mm, 5 µm) with a binary solvent system consisting of methanol and 0.01 mol/L trichloroacetic acid aqueous solution. The typical validation parameters were evaluated in accordance with the acceptance criteria detailed in the guidelines of the EU Commission Decision 2002/657/EC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Bioanalytical Method Validation 05/24/18. The matrix-matched calibration curve was linear over the concentration range from the limit of quantitation (LOQ) to 400 μg/kg for doxycycline, and the calibration graphs for tetracycline, chlortetracycline, oxytetracycline, their 4-epimer derivatives and tigecycline showed a good linear relationship within the concentration range from the LOQ to 200 μg/kg. The limits of detection (LODs) for the eight targets were in the range of 0.06 to 0.09 μg/kg, and the recoveries from the fortified blank samples were in the range of 89% to 98%. The within-run precision and between-run precision, which were expressed as the relative standard deviations, were less than 5.0% and 6.9%, respectively. The applicability was successfully demonstrated through the determination of residues in 72 commercial chicken samples purchased from different sources. This approach provides a novel option for the detection of residues in animal-derived food safety monitoring.

Abstract
The current study was conducted to determine sulfonamides (SAs) and tetracyclines (TCs) residuals in farmed Nile Tilapia fish (Orechromis niloticus) using the solid phase extraction (SPE) technique and high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detection (HPLC-DAD). As well, to assess the potential health risk due to the consumption of contaminated fish following its household thermal processing. Tilapia samples were collected from four governorates in Egypt; El-Fayoum, Giza, Cairo, and Alexandria. The results showed that 56.3 % (27 out of 48 samples) of fish samples were free of antibiotics, while 10.4 % and 33.3 % of samples were contaminated by SAs and TCs, respectively. Besides, oxytetracycline (OTC) showed the highest detected concentrations ranged from 52.8 to 658.5 (μg/kg), followed by chlortetracycline (OTC) (35.89-109.76 μg/kg), and tetracycline (TC) (68.8-96.7 μg/kg). While the detected SAs were between 32.89 μg/kg (sulfamethazine: SMT) and 136.43 μg/kg (sulfadimethoxine: SDM). As well, sulfamethoxazole (SMX) showed an average concentration of 52.41 μg/kg. Notably, only 7 samples (out of 21 positive samples) had residual levels exceeded the permissible limits. The study also concluded that freezing fish at -18 °C for one week had no significant effect on the stability of SAs and TCs. As well, SAs showed more stability than TCs against the thermal processing for fish. Indeed, the stability of SAs and TCs antibiotics was arranged in a descending order, shown as follows: SMT > SDM > SMX > CTC > TC > OTC. Eventually, no potential risk to the Egyptian population was found from the consumption of the contaminated fish samples by SAs and TCs.

Abstract
Metal-organic framework is an extended coordination compound with repeating coordination entities and voids, which shows potential applications in gas storage, separation, catalysis, and etc. This work reports the synthesis of a new functional metal-organic framework of pyromellitic acid and europium, and its application in fluorescence sensing of doxycycline, a broad-spectrum polyketide antibiotic on the basis of fluorescence turn-on method. The metal-organic framework was initially non-fluorescent, however, with the addition of doxycycline, the system exhibited significant fluorescence enhancement at 526 nm and 617 nm, where both fluorescence intensities showed good linear correlations with the doxycycline concentration, suggesting the possibility for direct two-channel detection without any sensitization materials such as metal particles or surface-modified quantum dots. More interestingly, the unique fluorescence response of the system could discriminate doxycycline from other tetracycline antibiotics with high selectivity, and a limit of detection (LOD) was estimated to be 47 nM. It has been further demonstrated that the material has been successfully applied as sensing materials for selective determination of doxycycline in real samples of fish and urine.

Abstract
For the purpose of producing carbons with developed mesoporosity, a wood biochar was thermally treated at 600-800 °C in the air/nitrogen atmosphere. The mesopore development was observed when the air flux increased to 50-90 mL/min, and the carbon product having high mesopore surface area (316 m2/g) and mesopore pore volume (0.284 cm3/g) was produced at the treatment temperature of 700 °C. The mesopores were developed mainly in the temperature holding stage of thermal treatment, with size mainly ranged from 20 to 60 Å. The carbons' adsorption to the antibiotic tetracycline was enhanced by 5.5-9.2 folds when the air/nitrogen mixture was used instead of nitrogen atmosphere in thermal treatment, and the enhanced adsorption is positively related to the mesopore development. In general, this research provides a facile way to produce carbons with developed mesoporosity, so as to improve their adsorption to bulky organic molecules.

Abstract
Utilization of traditional analytical techniques is limited because they are generally time-consuming and require high consumption of reagents, complicated sample preparation and expensive equipment. Therefore, it is of great interest to achieve sensitive, rapid and simple detection methods. It is believed that nucleic acids assays, especially aptamers, are very important in modern life sciences for target detection and biological analysis. Aptamers and DNA-based sensors have been widely used for the design of various sensors owing to their unique features. In recent years, triple-helix molecular switch (THMS)-based aptasensors and DNA sensors have been broadly utilized for the detection and analysis of different targets. The THMS relies on the formation of DNA triplex via Watson-Crick and Hoogsteen base pairings under optimal conditions. This review focuses on recent progresses in the development and applications of electrochemical, colorimetric, fluorescence and SERS aptasensors and DNA sensors, which are based on THMS. Also, the advantages and drawbacks of these methods are discussed.

Abstract
The widespread use of tetracyclines (TCs) in animal husbandry is associated with their constant penetration into the environment and the threat they might pose to living organisms. While the literature data on the analysis of these substances in such matrices as food, tissues, or wastewater are quite extensive, there are still only a few methods presented for the determination of these compounds in soil samples. Moreover, among the literature methods for the extraction of TCs from soil samples, microwave-assisted solvent extraction (MAE) was used only once and in combination with liquid chromatography with spectrophotometric detection (LC-UV). However, according to the EU Commission Decision 2002/657/EC, the use of LC-UV for the determination of compounds, including pharmaceuticals, in environmental samples is not sufficient. Therefore, the development and application of a sensitive and selective method using the MAE-SPE-LC-MS/MS(MRM) technique for the isolation and identification of a mixture of oxytetracycline (OTC), tetracycline (TC), and chlortetracycline (CTC) in soils is presented in our study. The credibility of this method has been confirmed with good parameters of validation. The optimal extraction conditions of three TCs using MAE techniques were to conduct double extraction for 10 min each, at 60 °C, using a mixture of ACN:McIlvaine buffer:0.1 M EDTA (2:1:1, v/v/v) and an additional cleaning of the extracts by SPE. The effectiveness of the extraction of these compounds was assessed based on two different ways (absolute recovery from 46 to 65.1% and relative recovery from 101.1 to 109.5%). Finally, the validated MAE-SPE-LC-MS/MS(MRM) method was used for the analysis of six samples from agricultural areas of northern Poland. OTC and TC, at concentrations of 11.7 and 14.5 μg kg-1 were determined in two different samples. An assessment of risk quotients was also performed. The presented method was proven to be a useful tool in the analysis of residues of selected TCs in the soil ecosystem. Obtained data on the presence of these drugs in Polish soils is the first report for this country.

Abstract
The increased separation efficiency provided by the new technology of column packed with core-shell particles in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has resulted in their widespread diffusion in several analytical fields: from pharmaceutical, biological, environmental, and toxicological. The present paper presents their most recent applications in food analysis. Their use has proved to be particularly advantageous for the determination of compounds at trace levels or when a large amount of samples must be analyzed fast using reliable and solvent-saving apparatus. The literature hereby described shows how the outstanding performances provided by core-shell particles column on a traditional HPLC instruments are comparable to those obtained with a costly UHPLC instrumentation, making this novel column a promising key tool in food analysis.
