Abstract
The silk fibroin (SF)/ionic liquid (IL) based hydrogel is a kind of remarkable substrate for flexible devices because of its subzero-temperature elasticity, electrical conductivity, and water retention, although the procedure of the gelation is considered complex and time-consuming. In this work, we introduced an approximate method for the development of novel photo-cross-linked SF/IL hydrogel, that is, SF-IMA/PIL hydrogel via the modification of silk fibroin chain with 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate (SF-IMA) in a certain ionic liquid with an unsaturated double bond. The chemical cross-linking between methacrylated SF and IL was triggered by UV light, while the physical cross-linking of the hydrogel was attributed to the β-sheet formation of SF in SF-IMA/IL mixed solution. In addition to being a UV-induced three-dimensional (3D) printable one, the SF-IMA/PIL hydrogel performed significant ionic conductivity between room temperature and -50 °C and water retention within a wide range of relative humidity, which were the featured advantages as the ionic liquid involved. Moreover, the static and dynamic mechanical tests demonstrated that the hydrogel reserved its great elasticity at -50 °C and displayed its stiffness transition temperatures between -100 and -70 °C.

Abstract
Anion exchange membrane fuel cells have unique advantages and are thus gaining increasing attention. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is one of the potential polymers for the development of anion exchange membranes. This review provides recent studies on PVA-based membranes as alternative anion exchange membranes for alkaline fuel cells. The development of anion exchange membranes in general, including the types, materials, and preparation of anion exchange membranes in the last years, are discussed. The performances and characteristics of recently reported PVA-based membranes are highlighted, including hydroxide conductivity, water uptake, swelling degree, tensile strength, and fuel permeabilities. Finally, some challenging issues and perspectives for the future study of anion exchange membranes are discussed.

Long-Chain Alkylimidazolium Ionic Liquid Functionalization of Cellulose Nanofibers and Their Embedding in HDPE Matrix. INT J POLYM SCI 2016. Abstract
This paper presents a possible alternative to traditional cellulose nanofibers functionalization, by treatment of the material at low temperatures (25–35°C) with electron-beam irradiated 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid. The treatment promotes decreasing the crystallinity of the cellulose with up to 45% and possible imidazolium moieties grafting to cellulose, as demonstrated from FTIR, XRD, and elemental analysis. The grafting determines water vapors uptake values with 50–70% lower and water vapors uptake rate with 50% lower than those of reference cellulose nanofibers. The grafting determined also improved adhesion of the cellulose nanofibers to HDPE, thus contributing to the obtaining of polymer matrix composites with improved properties.
