Recent Advancements in Electrochemical Sensors Based on MOFs and Their Derivatives

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are composed of metal nodes and organic linkers that can self-assemble into an infinite network. The high porosity and large surface area of MOFs facilitate the effective enrichment and mass transfer of analytes, which can enhance the signal response and improve the sensitivity of electrochemical sensors. Additionally, MOFs and their derivatives possess the properties of unsaturated metal sites and tunable structures, collectively demonstrating their potential for electrochemical sensing. This paper summarizes the preparation methods, structural properties, and applications of MOFs and their derivatives in electrochemical sensing, emphasizing sensors' selectivity and sensitivity from the perspectives of direct and indirect detection. Additionally, it also explores future directions and prospects for MOFs in electrochemical sensing, with the aim of overcoming current limitations through innovative approaches.

Recent Advances in Metal-Organic Framework (MOF)-Based Composites for Organic Effluent Remediation

Environmental pollution caused by organic effluents emitted by industry has become a worldwide issue and poses a serious threat to the public and the ecosystem. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), comprising metal-containing clusters and organic bridging ligands, are porous and crystalline materials, possessing fascinating shape and size-dependent properties such as high surface area, abundant active sites, well-defined crystal morphologies, and huge potential for surface functionalization. To date, numerous well designated MOFs have emerged as critical functional materials to solve the growing challenges associated with water environmental issues. Here we present the recent progress of MOF-based materials and their applications in the treatment of organic effluents. Firstly, several traditional and emerging synthesis strategies for MOF composites are introduced. Then, the structural and functional regulations of MOF composites are presented and analyzed. Finally, typical applications of MOF-based materials in treating organic effluents, including chemical, pharmaceutical, textile, and agricultural wastewaters are summarized. Overall, this review is anticipated to tailor design and regulation of MOF-based functional materials for boosting the performance of organic effluent remediation.

A Mini Review of Ceramic-Based MOF Membranes for Water Treatment

Ceramic membranes have been increasingly employed in water treatment owing to their merits such as high-stability, anti-oxidation, long lifespan and environmental friendliness. The application of ceramic membranes mainly focuses on microfiltration and ultrafiltration processes, and some precise separation can be achieved by introducing novel porous materials with superior selectivity. Recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have developed a wide spectrum of applications in the fields of the environment, energy, water treatment and gas separation due to the diversity and tunable advantages of metal clusters and organic ligands. Although the issue of water stability in MOF materials inhibits the development of MOF membranes in water treatment, researchers still overcome many obstacles to advance the application of MOF membranes in water treatment processes. To the best of our knowledge, there is still a lack of a reviews on the development process and prospects of ceramic-based MOF membranes for water treatment. Therefore, in this review, we mainly summarize the fabrication method for ceramic-based MOF membranes and their application in water treatment, such as water/salt separation, pollutant separation, heavy metal separation, etc. Following this, based on the high structural, thermal and chemical stability of ceramic substrates, and the high controllability of MOF materials, the superiority and insufficient use of ceramic-based MOF membranes in the field of water treatment are critically discussed.
