Abstract
Vegetables capture antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) from the soil and then pass them on to consumers through the delivery chain and food chain, and are therefore the key node that may increase the risk of human exposure to ARGs. This study investigates the patterns and driving forces behind the transmission of ARGs from soil to vegetables by the commonly planted cash crops in the coastal region of southern China, i.e. broccoli, pumpkin, and broad bean, to investigate. The study used metagenomic data to reveal the microbial and ARGs profiles of various vegetables and the soil they are grown. The results indicate significant differences in the accumulation of ARGs among different vegetables harvested in the same area at the same time frame, and the ARGs accumulation ability of the three vegetables was in the order of broccoli, broad bean, and pumpkin. In addition, broccoli collected the highest number of ARGs in types (n = 14), while pumpkin (n = 13) does not obtain trimethoprim resistance genes and broad beans (n = 10) do not obtain chloramphenicol, fosmidomycin, quinolone, rifamycin, or trimethoprim resistance genes. Host tracking analysis shows a strong positive correlation (|rho| > 0.8, p < 0.05) between enriched ARGs and plant companion microbes. Enrichment analysis of metabolic pathways of companion microbes shows that vegetables exhibit a discernible enrichment of companion microbes, with significant differences among vegetables. This phenomenon is primarily due to the screening of carbohydrate metabolism capabilities among companion microbes and leads varied patterns of ARGs that spread from the soil to vegetables. This offers a novel insight into the intervention of foodborne transmission of ARGs.

Abstract
Nutrient availability and efficient use are critical for crop productivity. Current agricultural practices rely on excessive chemical fertilizers, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental pollution. Rhizosphere microbes facilitate plant nutrient acquisition and contribute to nutrient use efficiency. Thus, engineering plant-microbe communication within the rhizosphere emerges as a promising and sustainable strategy to enhance agricultural productivity. Recent advances in plant engineering have enabled the development of plants capable of selectively enriching beneficial microbes through root exudates. At the same time, synthetic biology techniques have produced microbes capable of improving nutrient availability and uptake by plants. By engineering plant-microbe communication, researchers aim to harness beneficial soil microbes, thereby offering a targeted and efficient approach to optimizing plant nutrient use efficiency.

Abstract
Every living organism on Earth depends on its interactions with other organisms. In the rhizosphere, plants and microorganisms constantly exchange signals and influence each other's behavior. Recent studies have shown that many beneficial rhizosphere microbes can produce specific signaling molecules that affect plant root architecture and therefore could have substantial effects on above-ground growth. This review examines these chemical signals and summarizes their mechanisms of action, with the aim of enhancing our understanding of plant-microbe interactions and providing references for the comprehensive development and utilization of these active components in agricultural production. In addition, we highlight future research directions and challenges, such as searching for microbial signals to induce primary root development.

Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are persistent and harmful pollutants with high priority concern in agricultural fields. This work constructed a rice-crab coculture and bioaugmentation (RCM) system to remediate phenanthrene (a model PAH) contamination in rice fields. The results showed that RCM had a higher remediation performance of phenanthrene in rice paddy compared with rice cultivation alone, microbial addition alone, and crab-rice coculture, reaching a remediation efficiency of 88.92 % in 42 d. The concentration of phenanthrene in the rice plants decreased to 6.58 mg/kg, and its bioconcentration effect was efficiently inhibited in the RCM system. In addition, some low molecular weight organic acids of rice root increased by 12.87 %∼73.87 %, and some amino acids increased by 140 %∼1150 % in RCM. Bioturbation of crabs improves soil aeration structure and microbial migration, and adding Pseudomonas promoted the proliferation of some plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPRs), which facilitated the degradation of phenanthrene. This coupling rice-crab coculture with bioaugmentation had favorable effects on soil enzyme activity, microbial community structure, and PAH degradation genes in paddy fields, enhancing the removal of and resistance to PAH contamination in paddy fields and providing new strategies for achieving a balance between production and remediation in contaminated paddy fields.

Abstract
About half of the known bacterial species perform chemotaxis that gains them access to sites that are optimal for growth and survival. The motility apparatus and chemotaxis signaling pathway impose a large energetic and metabolic burden on the cell. There is almost no limit to the type of chemoeffectors that are recognized by bacterial chemoreceptors. For example, they include hormones, neurotransmitters, quorum-sensing molecules, and inorganic ions. However, the vast majority of chemoeffectors appear to be of metabolic value. We review here the experimental evidence indicating that accessing nutrients is the main selective force that led to the evolution of chemotaxis.

Abstract
Plant roots host numerous microorganisms around and inside their roots, forming a community known as the root microbiome. An increasing bulk of research is underlining the influences root-associated microbial communities can have on plant health and development. However, knowledge on how plant roots and their associated microbes interact to bring about crop growth and yield is limited. Here, we presented (i) the communication strategies between plant roots and root-associated microbes and (ii) the applications of plant root-associated microbes in enhancing plant growth and yield. This review has been divided into three main sections: communications between root microbiome and plant root; the mechanism employed by root-associated microbes; and the chemical communication mechanisms between plants and microbes and their application in plant growth and yield. Understanding how plant root and root-associated microbes communicate is vital in designing ecofriendly strategies for targeted disease suppression and improved plant growth that will help in sustainable agriculture. Ensuring that plants become healthy and productive entails keeping plants under surveillance around the roots to recognize disease-causing microbes and similarly exploit the services of beneficial microorganisms in nutrient acquisition, stress mitigation, and growth promotion.

Abstract
Soil microbiomes continue to evolve and shape the human microbiota according to external anthropogenic and climate change effects. Ancient microbes are being exposed as a result of glacier melting, soil erosion and poor agricultural practices. Soil microbes subtly regulate greenhouse gas emissions and undergo profound alterations due to poor soil maintenance. This review highlights how the soil microbiome influences human digestion processes, mineral and vitamin production, mental health and mood stimulation. Although much about microbial functions remains unknown, increasing evidence suggests that beneficial soil microbes are vital for enhancing human tolerance to diseases and pathogens. Further research is essential to delineate the specific role of the soil microbiome in promoting human health, especially in light of the increasing anthropogenic pressures and changing climatic conditions.

Abstract
The drought sensitivity of the pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) poses a threat to its survival in light of climate change. Mycorrhizal fungi, which orchestrate biogeochemical cycles and particularly have an impact on the plant's defense mechanisms and metabolism of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus, are among the microbes that play a significant role in the mitigation of the effects of climate change on trees. The study's main objectives were to determine whether ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi alleviate the effects of drought stress in pedunculate oak and to investigate their priming properties. The effects of two levels of drought (mild and severe, corresponding to 60% and 30% of field capacity, respectively) on the biochemical response of pedunculate oak were examined in the presence and absence of ectomycorrhizal fungi. To examine whether the ectomycorrhizal fungi modulate the drought tolerance of pedunculate oak, levels of plant hormones and polyamines were quantified using UPLC-TQS and HPLC-FD techniques in addition to gas exchange measurements and the main osmolyte amounts (glycine betaine-GB and proline-PRO) which were determined spectrophotometrically. Droughts increased the accumulation of osmolytes, such as proline and glycine betaine, as well as higher polyamines (spermidine and spermine) levels and decreased putrescine levels in both, mycorrhized and non-mycorrhized oak seedlings. In addition to amplifying the response of oak to severe drought in terms of inducible proline and abscisic acid (ABA) levels, inoculation with ECM fungi significantly increased the constitutive levels of glycine betaine, spermine, and spermidine regardless of drought stress. This study found that compared to non-mycorrhized oak seedlings, unstressed ECM-inoculated oak seedlings had higher levels of salicylic (SA) and abscisic acid (ABA) but not jasmonic acid (JA), indicating a priming mechanism of ECM is conveyed via these plant hormones. According to a PCA analysis, the effect of drought was linked to the variability of parameters along the PC1 axe, such as osmolytes PRO, GB, polyamines, and plant hormones such as JA, JA-Ile, SAG, and SGE, whereas mycorrhization was more closely associated with the parameters gathered around the PC2 axe (SA, ODPA, ABA, and E). These findings highlight the beneficial function of the ectomycorrhizal fungi, in particular Scleroderma citrinum, in reducing the effects of drought stress in pedunculate oak.
