Abstract
Tetracycline (TC) has been widely used in clinical medicine and animal growth promotion due to its broad-spectrum antibacterial properties and affordable prices. Unfortunately, the high toxicity and difficult degradation rate of TC molecules make them easy to accumulate in the environment, which breaks the ecological balance and seriously threatens human health. Rapid and accurate detection of TC residue levels is important for ensuring water quality and food safety. Recently, fluorescence detection technology of TC residues has developed rapidly. Lanthanide nanomaterials, based on the high luminescence properties of lanthanide ions and the high matching with TC energy levels, are favored in the real-time trace detection of TC due to their advantages of high sensitivity, rapidity, and high selectivity. Therefore, they are considered potential substitutes for traditional detection methods. This review summarizes the synthesis strategy, TC response mechanism, removal mechanism, and applications in intelligent sensing. Finally, the development of lanthanide nanomaterials for TC fluorescence detection and removal is reasonably summarized and prospected. This review provides a reference for the establishment of a method for the accurate determination of TC content in complex food matrices.

A novel ratiometric sensor for fluorimetric and visual dual-mode detection of Al 3+ in environmental water based on the target-regulated formation of Eu MOFs. Abstract
Herein, a novel ratiometric sensor for fluorimetric and smartphone-assisted visual detection of Al3+ in environmental water was developed based on the target-regulated formation of Eu metal-organic frameworks (Eu MOFs). By employing 2-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl) piperazin-1-yl] ethanesulfonic acid (Hepes), Eu3+ and tetracycline (TC) as raw materials, Eu MOFs with red emission were facilely synthesized through the coordination of Eu3+ with Hepes and TC. However, upon the introduction of Al3+, a higher affinity of TC towards Al3+ resulted in the formation of a TC-Al3+ complex with green fluorescence and inhibited the generation of Eu MOFs. This led to an increase in green fluorescence and a decrease in red fluorescence accompanied by the fluorescence color of the solution changing from red to green under the illumination of the UV lamp. Thus, a ratiometric sensor for fluorimetric and the smartphone-assisted visual detection of Al3+ was established. The ratiometric sensor exhibited high sensitivity for Al3+ detection with a detection limit of 0.14 μM for fluorescence detection and 1.21 μM for visual detection. Additionally, the proposed strategy was successfully applied to detect Al3+ in the environmental water samples with satisfactory results, indicating great application prospects for environmental monitoring.

Abstract
Oxytetracycline (OTC) and streptomycin have been used for the control of several plant diseases and were recently permitted for the control of citrus greening disease, Huanglongbing. Consequently, sensitive and reliable methods are highly needed for the detection of OTC in citrus tissues. Herein, we studied the replacement of cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) by citrate (Cit) as a sensitizing agent for the analysis of OTC in citrus tissues using the recently established europium (Eu) method. In addition, we determined the optimal conditions for the formation of the Eu-OTC-Cit ternary complex in tris buffer. Our results showed that the plant matrix significantly decreased the fluorescence intensity of the Eu-OTC-Cit complex even after the replacement of CTAC. Our investigations showed that phenols such as gallic acid degrade slowly at high pH and their degradation was enhanced in the presence of the (Eu+3) cation. To reduce the plant matrix interference, the sample extract was cleaned using solid-phase extraction (SPE). The OTC recoveries from spiked healthy and Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas)-infected trees were 91.4 ± 7.8% and 82.4 ± 3.9%, respectively. We also used the citrate method to determine the level of OTC in trunk-injected trees. The level of OTC as measured using the Eu-OTC-Cit complex (117.5 ± 20.3 µg g−1 fresh weight “FWT”) was similar to that measured using Eu-OTC-CTAC complex (97.5 ± 14 µg g−1 FWT). In addition, we were able to visualize the OTC in citrus leaf extract, under ultraviolet light (400 nm), after it was cleaned with the SPE. Our study showed that the citrate can be successfully used to replace the harmful CTAC surfactant, which could also react with phenols.

Abstract
A neutral Eu(iii) complex containing the S,S enantiomer of isoQC3A3- ligand (isoQC3A3- = N-isoquinolyl-N,N',N'-trans-l,2-cyclohexylenediaminetriacetate) was synthesized and characterized. The complex was spectroscopically investigated and the results compared with those obtained for the similar bis-anionic ligand bisoQcd2- (bisoQcd2- = N,N'-bis(2-isoquinolinmethyl)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane N,N'-diacetate). Both Eu(iii)-complexes show similar binding constants upon titration with the main analytes contained in interstitial extracellular fluid (i.e. hydrogen carbonate, serum albumin and citrate). However, the analyte affinity is accompanied by different enhancements of the Eu(iii) intrinsic quantum yield (QY). Structures and hydration numbers of the complexes are determined by luminescence decay measurements and DFT calculations. The QYs as well as the binding constants of the individual adducts of the complexes with hydrogen carbonate, bovine serum albumin (BSA) and citrate are determined. The study of the Eu(iii) emission upon the systematic variation of one analyte in a complex mixture has been carried out to predict the performance of the luminescent sensor in conditions close to the real extracellular environment. Both Eu(iii) complexes can detect citrate at extracellular concentrations up to 500 μM, even at millimolar concentrations of the other interfering species. In the case of the Eu(bisoQcd)OTf complex, an increase of 23% of the Eu(iii) luminescence intensity at 615 nm upon addition of 0.3 mM of citrate was recorded. This feature makes the latter complex a viable probe for luminescence analysis of citrate in a complex matrix.

Abstract
A sensitive assay for citrate was developed. Citrate was incubated with 50 μM Eu3+-tetracycline and the complex separated using capillary electrophoresis utilizing post-column laser-induced luminescence detection in a sheath flow cuvette. Signal was linear with citrate concentration from 10 μM to 200 nM. Injection volumes were 320 pL. For the 200 nM sample, this corresponds to the injection of 64 amoles of citrate. Separation time was < 90 s with a total run time of 5 min. As an application the method was used to analyze citrate in agricultural and medicinal products. The method was also used to develop an assay for the enzyme citrate synthase.

Abstract
Normal prostate tissue contains high levels of citrate. In the presence of prostate cancer, the citrate level is diminished. In this paper we show that it is possible to use europium-oxytetracycline complex as a citrate fluorescent probe and consequently as a prostate cancer probe. We analyzed normal nude male mice urine and urine from nude male mice in which prostate cancer was induced by intraprostatic inoculation of DU145 cells. The urine samples were collected from the animals at the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 35th days after the surgery procedures. The intensity of europium emission at 615 nm in europium-oxytetracycline complex in the presence of citrate increases linearly. The citrate concentrations were determined from a calculated calibration curve. A concentration decrease in malignant prostate urine from the normal (PBS group) urine value from ~8.0 mM to ~2.4 mM (tumor group at 35th day) was found. The obtained results indicated that europium-oxytetracycline provides a significant biomarker for prostate cancer detection with a direct, accurate, noninvasive, and non-enzymatic method for measurement of citrate in biological fluids.
