Abstract
We proposed a new strategy to maximize the density of acidic groups by modulating the electronic effects of the substituents for high-performance proton conductors. The conductivity of the sulfonated 1-MeL40-S with methyl group corresponds to 2.29×10-1 S cm-1 at 80 °C and 90 % relative humidity, remarkably an 22100-fold enhancement over the nonsulfonated 1-MeL40. 1-MeL40-S maintains long-term conductivity for one month. We confirm that this synthetic method is generalized to the extended version POPs, 2-MeL40-S and 3-MeL40-S. In particular, the conductivities of the POPs compete with those of top-level porous organic conductors. Moreover, the activation energy of the POPs is lower than that of the top-performing materials. This study demonstrates that systematic alteration of the electronic effects of substituents is a useful route to improve the conductivity and long-term durability of proton-conducting materials.

Abstract
![]()
Heterogeneous catalysis plays a pivotal role in the preparation
of value-added chemicals, and it works more efficiently when combined
with porous materials and supports. Because of that, a detailed assessment
of porosity and pore size is essential when evaluating the performance
of new heterogeneous catalysts. Herein, we report the synthesis and
characterization of a series of novel microporous Tröger’s
base polymers and copolymers (TB-PIMs) with tunable pore size. The
basicity of TB sites is exploited to catalyze the Knoevenagel condensation
of benzaldehydes and malononitrile, and the dimension of the pores
can be systematically adjusted with an appropriate selection of monomers
and comonomers. The tunability of the pore size provides the enhanced
accessibility of the catalytic sites for substrates, which leads to
a great improvement in conversions, with the best results achieving
completion in only 20 min. In addition, it enables the use of large
benzaldehydes, which is prevented when using polymers with very small
pores, typical of conventional PIMs. The catalytic reaction is more
efficient than the corresponding homogeneous counterpart and is ultimately
optimized with the addition of a small amount of a solvent, which
facilitates the swelling of the pores and leads to a further improvement
in the performance and to a better carbon economy. Molecular dynamic
modeling of the copolymers’ structures is employed to describe
the swellability of flexible chains, helping the understanding of
the improved performance and demonstrating the great potential of
these novel materials.

Abstract
Synthesis of sulfonated porous polymers with improved hydrophobicity and stability is of extreme importance in both academic research and industrial applications. However, there is often a trade-off between acidity and surface hydrophobicity of sulfonated polymers. In this study, we report a strategy for the synthesis of sulfonated porous organic polymers (S-PT) with improved hydrophobicity via free radical polymerization method by using a rigid and large multidentate monomer, 1,3,5-tri(4-vinylphenyl)-benzene, having a hydrophobic core. The results of vapor adsorption measurement show that S-PT has more hydrophobic properties than sulfonated poly(divinylbenzene) (S-PD), attributed to the hydrophobic core of its multidentate monomer. Furthermore, the optimization of sulfonation time established a balance between surface acidity and hydrophobicity. Under optimized conditions, S-PT afforded up to 113 mmol g-1 h-1 TOF in the esterification of oleic acid with methanol, more active than commercial Amberlyst-15 with TOF of 15 mmol g-1 h-1 and Nafion NR50 with TOF of 7 mmol g-1 h-1 . We believe that the findings of this study will provide useful insights to advance the design and synthesis of solid acid catalysts for organic transformations.

Abstract
Herein, we investigated catalytic potential of a functionalized porous organic polymer bearing sulfonic acid groups (PDVTA-SO3H) to the etherification of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 5-ethoxymethylfurfural (EMF) under solvent-free conditions. The PDVTA-SO3H material was synthesized via post-synthetic sulfonation of the porous co-polymer poly-divinylbenzene-co-triallylamine by chlorosulfonic acid. The physicochemical properties of the PDVTA-SO3H were characterized by FT-IR, SEM, TG-DTG, and N2 adsorption isotherm techniques. PDVTA-SO3H had high specific surface area (591 m2 g−1) and high density of –SO3H group (2.1 mmol g−1). The reaction conditions were optimized via Box–Behnken response surface methodology. Under the optimized conditions, the PDVTA-SO3H catalyst exhibited efficient catalytic activity with 99.8% HMF conversion and 87.5% EMF yield within 30 min at 110 °C. The used PDVTA-SO3H catalyst was readily recovered by filtration and remained active in recycle runs. The sulfonic acid grafted porous organic nitrogen-containing polymer (PDVTA-SO3H) exhibited excellent catalytic activity in the synthesis of 5-ethoxymethylfurfural (EMF) from 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF).![]()

Abstract
The major sources of fuels in today's world predominantly come from traditional
fossil resources such as coal, petroleum and natural gas, which are limited and nonrenewable.
Meanwhile, their consumption releases large undesirable greenhouse gas and
noxious gases. Therefore, the development of renewable and sustainable feedstocks to replace
traditional fossil resources has attracted great interest. Biodiesel, mainly produced
through esterification and transesterification reaction from renewable oil resources using
acids and bases as catalysts, is deemed as a green and renewable biofuel that shows enormous
potential to replace fossil diesel. Compared to homogeneous catalytic systems, the
development of efficient and stable heterogeneous catalysts is vital to synthesizing biodiesel
in an efficient and green manner. Among the developed solid catalysts, organic polymer-
based catalytic materials are an extremely important topic, wherein distinct advantages of higher concentration
of active sites and better stability of active groups are associated with each other. In this review, effective
catalytic valorization of sustainable feedstocks into biodiesel via transesterification and esterification reactions
mediated by functionalized organic polymer-based catalysts is discussed. Special emphasis has been
given to the synthetic routes to the versatile organic polymers-based catalytic materials, and some other interesting
catalytic roles derived from physicochemical property, like adjustable hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity
along with swelling property in transesterification and esterification, are also illustrated.

Abstract
Abstract
In the biodiesel production, acidic catalysts are ideally suitable for reacting with different oil sources at various free acid levels. On the other hand, the nanocatalysts can easily be propagated in the reaction medium and provide more accessible active sites for reaction. The aim of this work was to synthesize an acidic nanocatalyst based on boehmite nanoparticles then studying it to biodiesel production from soybean oil. Up to now, no reports were found on biodiesel production by this catalyst. After the synthesis and characterization of the catalyst, using response surface methodology (RSM), the optimized conditions for transesterification were 4.87 wt.% for catalyst dosage, 13:1 for the molar ratio of methanol to oil, 60 °C for reaction temperature, and 3 h for reaction time. At the optimal point, the production yield was 99.8 %. After six consecutive use of the catalyst, the yield dropped slightly (88 %). Consequently, the catalyst can be employed efficiently several runs in the production process.

Abstract
Double postsynthetic acidifications of a hypercrosslinked polymer afforded record high NH3 adsorption capacity per surface area. Its PDMS coating provided an 40-fold enhancement of low-pressure NH3 adsorption capacity and hydrophobicity.
A hypercrosslinked porous organic polymer was modified by post-oxidation and post-sulfonation to obtain a porous platform with a high density of acidic groups. Such an acidified material exhibits record high NH3 adsorption capacity per surface area, fast adsorption rate, and recyclability at low desorption temperature. Noticeably, the coating of the polymer with PDMS represents a facile and efficient route to enable both a significant improvement of low-pressure NH3 adsorption capacity (∼40-fold enhancement; from 0.04 to 1.41 mmol g–1) with respect to the non-modified polymer at 500 ppm and hydrophobicity associated with the selective sorption of NH3 over water vapor (hydrophilic for the non-coated material). This material is easy to prepare, cost-effective, and scalable to mass production.
