Abstract
This study investigates the nucleation and growth of micro-/nanodroplets of triflate-based ionic liquids (ILs) fabricated by vapor deposition on different surfaces: indium tin oxide (ITO); silver (Ag); gold (Au). The ILs studied are constituted by the alkylimidazolium cation and the triflate anion—[CnC1im][OTF] series. One of the key issues that determine the potential applications of ILs is the wettability of surfaces. Herein, the wetting behavior was evaluated by changing the cation alkyl chain length (C2 to C10). A reproducible control of the deposition rate was conducted employing Knudsen cells, and the thin-film morphology was evaluated by high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The study reported here for the [CnC1im][OTF] series agrees with recent data for the [CnC1im][NTf2] congeners, highlighting the higher wettability of the solid substrates to long-chain alkylimidazolium cations. Compared to [NTf2], the [OTF] series evidenced an even more pronounced wetting ability on Au and coalescence processes of droplets highly intense on ITO. Higher homogeneity and film cohesion were found for cationic groups associated with larger alkyl side chains. An island growth was observed on both Ag and ITO substrates independently of the cation alkyl chain length. The Ag surface promoted the formation of smaller-size droplets. A quantitative analysis of the number of microdroplets formed on Ag and ITO revealed a trend shift around [C6C1im][OTF], emphasizing the effect of the nanostructuration intensification due to the formation of nonpolar continuous domains.

Abstract
The interfacial along with bulk characteristics of the aqueous solutions of ILs with dissimilar cationic head group viz. 1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide ([C12mim][Br]), and N-dodecyl-N-methylmorpholinium bromide ([Mor1,12][Br]) in the absence and the presence of an amino acid L-Methionine as an external additive have been examined by electrical conductivity, UV-Visible, surface tension, and DLS measurements. The CMC values, and the lowest maximum surface excess concentration (Гmax) achieved from all three techniques, and surface tension measurements respectively displayed more surface activity of the [C12mim][Br] than the [Mor1,12][Br]. Also, the morpholinium head group is less hazardous than imidazolium, it can be utilised to design ILs that are greener, mainly in combination with polar, small, and non-toxic side chains and anions.

Abstract
We have reported previously on the existence of charge-induced long-range organization in the room-temperature ionic liquid (RTIL), BMIM+BF4-. The induced organization is in the form of a free charge density gradient (ρf) that exists over ca. 100 μm into the RTIL in contact with a charged surface. The fluorescence anisotropy decay of a trace-level charged chromophore in the RTIL is measured as a function of distance from the indium-doped tin oxide support surface to probe this free charge density gradient. We report here on the characterization of the free charge density gradient in five different imidazolium RTILs and use these data to evaluate the magnitude of the induced free charge density gradient. Both the extent and magnitude of this gradient depend on the chemical structures of the cationic and anionic constituents of the RTIL used. Control over the magnitude of ρf has implications for the utility of RTILs for a host of applications that remain to be explored fully.

Abstract
This work describes a novel ionic liquid (IL)-assisted synthesis strategy for a direct and easy production of Eu2+ -doped nanoparticles (NPs), where ILs are also used as fluoride sources to avoid the use of elemental fluorine or toxic hydrofluoric acid. Up to now, the direct synthesis of Eu2+ -doped nanophosphors consisted of an enormous challenge, due to the oxidation to Eu3+ observed in hydrous solution, which is commonly used for the preparation of NPs, generating lattice defects and undesired particle growth or agglomeration by additional reducing steps at high temperatures. In contrast, ILs, unless containing ClO4- or NO3- anions, do not present an oxidizing character, allowing the direct precipitation of NPs, e.g., using Eu2+ containing starting materials. Here, the undoped and Eu2+ -doped BaFCl NPs have been prepared under atmospheric conditions for the first time using ILs as solvents and also as fluoride source, applying sonochemical and microwave-assisted approaches. In general, this method bears an enormous potential for an easy synthesis of fluoride materials compared to inconvenient solid-state methods. In addition, the IL plays the role of a strongly attached protecting shell which represents ≈7-8% of the total NPs weight.

Abstract
The impact of temperature-induced changes in solvent dynamics on the diffusion coefficient and standard rate constant k0 for heterogeneous electron transfer (ET) of ethylferrocene (EFc) in 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([BMIM][PF6 ]) is investigated. The results are analysed to understand the impact of solvent-dynamic control, solute-solvent interactions and solvent friction on the transport of redox probes and k0 . Concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficient of EFc in [BMIM][PF6 ] is observed. This is attributed to the solute-induced enhancement of the structural organisation of the ionic liquid (IL), which is supported by the concentration-dependent UV/Vis absorption and photoluminescence responses of EFc/[BMIM][PF6 ] solutions. Similar values of the activation energies for mass transport and ET and a linear relationship between the diffusion coefficient and the heterogeneous ET rate is observed. The ratio between the diffusion coefficient and the heterogeneous rate constant allows a characteristic length Ld , which is temperature-independent, to be introduced. The presented results clearly establish that mass transport and heterogeneous ET of redox probes are strongly correlated in ILs. It is proposed that the apparent kinetics of heterogeneous ET reactions in ILs can be explained in terms of their impact on thermal equilibration, energy dissipation and thermal excitation of redox-active probes.

Abstract
In the first of its kind we herein report the results of our studies undertaken on the micellization behaviour of imidazolium based surface active ionic liquids (SAILs) to prove that their critical micelle concentration (cmc) can be estimated through ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy without using any external probe. Tensiometric and spectrophotometric investigations of a series of freshly prepared SAILs viz. 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([OMIM][Cl]), 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium dodecylsulphate ([OMIM][DS]), 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium benzoate ([OMIM][Bz]), 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium salicylate ([OMIM][Sc]), 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([OMIM][Ac]) are presented as a case study in support of the said claim. The cmcs estimated through spectrophotometric method were found to be close to the values estimated through tensiometry for the said SAILs. The cmcs for the investigated SAILS were found to vary in order of [OMIM][Cl]>[OMIM][Ac]>[OMIM][Bz]>[OMIM][Sc]>[OMIM][DS]. To the best of our knowledge the present communication will be the first report about the synthesis, characterization and micellization behaviour of [OMIM][Bz] and [OMIM][Sc].
