Abstract
The cross-linked carboxymethyl starch-g-methacrylic acid (CCMS-g-MAA) was prepared by using grafting and micro-cross-linking in the one-pot preparation process. CCMS-g-MAA presented high removal capacity of Pb (II) of 57.13 mg/g at pH = 4 and high removal capacity of Zn (II) of 51.41 mg/g at pH = 5 by using a sample dosage of 0.68 g/L. Characterization results of FTIR, TG, and XRD illustrate that methacrylic acid and sodium tri-metaphosphate were successfully introduced into the structure of carboxymethyl starch. SEM characterization presented that the sample particles were amorphous aggregates with surface voids, which was favorable for the adsorption of heavy metal ions from wastewater. Adsorption isotherm results indicated that Freundlich equation could be better used to describe the adsorption process of metal ions on CCMS-g-MAA. The adsorption kinetic results indicated that the pseudo-second-order model is more suitable to describe this removal process. XPS results indicated that metal ions interacted with functional groups on the surface of flocculant, especially carboxyl groups. The removal process may be purposed that metal ions were adsorbed by porous material, and then combined with surface functional groups of the flocculant via electrostatic interaction, chelation or ion exchange. Subsequently, metal ions were separated from the wastewater with flocs precipitated in the bottom of solution via bridging and patching. The obtained results illustrated that CCMS-g-MAA was an effective material for the treatment of wastewater containing polymetallic ions besides mineral beneficiation wastewater supported by its excellent regeneration.

Abstract
Herein, we have investigated the association behavior of bovine serum albumin (BSA) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) using the conductivity method in H2O and H2O + organic mixed solvents at different temperatures. The association phenomenon was detected from the deviation of the conductivity changes with enhancing the surfactant concentration and changes of numerous physico-chemical properties, such as CMC, α, β and thermodynamic variables (∆G0m, ∆H0m and ∆S0m). The values of CMC for the CTAB + BSA system in 10 % (v/v) solvents follow the trend: CMCwater < CMCwater+DMSO < CMCwater+AN < CMCwater+DX < CMCwater+DMF. The interaction of BSA with CTAB is notably influenced due to a change of temperature and extent of hydration of BSA and surfactant. The obtained values of -∆G0m manifest that the association of BSA and CTAB mixture is a spontaneous process, while the values of -∆G0m in presence of 10 % (v/v) aq. organic solvents come out in the given sequence: -∆Gmo (H2O + DMSO) > ∆Gmo (H2O + DMF) > -∆Gmo (H2O + DX) > -∆Gmo (H2O + AN). The H-bonding, ion-dipole, along with the hydrophobic interactions, are believed to be the binding interactions between BSA and CTAB in the study media.

Abstract
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a gasotransmitter known to regulate physiological and pathological processes. Abnormal H2S levels have been associated with a range of conditions, including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, cardiovascular and renal diseases, bacterial and viral infections, as well as cancer. Therefore, fast and sensitive H2S detection is of significant clinical importance. Fluorescent H2S probes hold great potential among the currently developed detection methods because of their high sensitivity, selectivity, and biocompatibility. However, many proposed probes do not provide a gold standard for proper use and selection. Consequently, issues arise when applying the probes in different conditions. Therefore, we systematically evaluated four commercially available probes (WSP‐1, WSP‐5, CAY, and P3), considering their detection range, sensitivity, selectivity, and performance in different environments. Furthermore, their capacity for endogenous H2S imaging in live cells was demonstrated.

Abstract
The effect of various media (aqueous, NaCl, urea (U) and thiourea (TU)) on the micellization and adsorption activity of varied mixtures of imipramine hydrochloride (IMP) and benzethonium chloride (BZCl) is investigated via tensiometry. In an aqueous medium, the interactions between IMP and BZCl are also evaluated using UV-visible and FTIR spectroscopy. The interaction between components increases with increased mole fraction (α 1) of BZCl in the mixed system (IMP + BZCl). Different parameters, such as micellar and the mixed monolayer component composition, the interaction parameters of the solution and the interface, the activity coefficients of the components in solution and at the interface, and thermodynamic parameters, are computed using different proposed theoretical models (i.e. Clint, Motomura, Rubingh and Rosen). The cmc values obtained for the pure components and mixtures (IMP + BZCl) of all the compositions are found to be less in NaCl than in the aqueous solution while found more in the presence of U or TU. TU is more effective in increasing the cmc of the pure and mixed systems than U. The Gibbs free energy ( Δ G mic ∘ ) values of the studied pure and mixed systems are negative, showing the spontaneous nature of the reaction.

Abstract
The desire of improving various processes like enhanced oil recovery (EOR), water treatment technologies, biomass extraction, organic synthesis, carbon capture etc. in which conventional surfactants have been traditionally utilized; prompted various researchers to explore the self-assembly and aggregation behavior of different kinds of surface-active molecules. Ionic liquids (ILs) with long alkyl chain present in their structure constitute the advantageous properties of surfactant and ILs, hence termed as surface-active ionic liquids (SAILs). The addition of ILs and SAILs significantly influence the surface-activity and aggregation behavior of industrially useful conventional surfactants. After a brief review of ILs, SAILs and surfactants, the prime focus is made on analyzing the self-assembly of SAILs and the mixed micellization behavior of conventional surfactants with different ILs.

Abstract
Recently, many kinds of gemini-type amphiphilic peptides have been designed and shown their advantage as self-assembling nanomaterials. In this study, we proposed a simple strategy to design gemini surfactant-like peptides, which are only composed of natural amino acids and can be easily obtained by conventional peptide sythnesis. Taking two prolines as the turn-forming units, a peptide named APK was designed. The petide has a linear sequence but naturally takes the conformation like a gemini surfactant. Compared with a single-tailed surfactant-like peptide A6K, APK showed much stronger ability to undergo self-assembly and to encapsulate hydrophobic pyrene. Several hydrophobic drugs including paclitaxel, doxorubicin, etomidate and propofol were encapsulated by APK, and the corresponding formulations showed anti-tumor or anesthetic efficacy comparable to their respective clinical formulations. Furthermore, APK could inhibit the growth of different microorganisms including E. coli, S. aureus and C. albicans. Etomidate and propofol formulations encapsulated by APK also showed strong antimicrobial activity. Taking APK as an example, our study indicated a straightforward strategy to design gemini surfactant-like peptides, which could be potential nanomaterials for exploring hydrophobic drug formulations with efficacy, safety and self-antimicrobial activity.

Abstract
The surface activity and the process of micellization of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) with methylene blue (MB) in a methanol-water mixed solvent system were investigated by tensiometry and conductometry at 298.15 K. The measurements of surface tension and conductivity of SDS-MB complex were carried up to 0.3 volume fractions of methanol because the resulting complex appeared turbid above 0.3 volume fractions of methanol. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the SDS was determined from both tensiometry and conductometry. The CMC of SDS increased with the increasing volume fraction of methanol due to the inclusion of methanol in the micelles and decreased in the presence of methylene blue due to the reduction of electrostatic repulsion within the anionic moiety of SDS by the positive charge of the added dye. Abstract
Herein, the interaction among the antidepressant drug amitriptyline hydrochloride (AMT) and a green gemini surfactant, ethane-1, 2-diyl bis(N,N-dimethyl-N-tetradecylammoniumacetoxy) dichloride (14-E2-14), via numerous techniques such as tensiometry, fluorimetry, FT-IR and UV-visible spectroscopy in three different media (aqueous 0.050 mol·kg-1 NaCl, 0.50 and 1.0 mol·kg-1 urea) were investigated. AMT is used to treat mental illness or mood problems, such as depression. The aggregation of biologically active ingredients can enhance the bioavailability of hydrophobic drugs. A significant interaction between AMT and 14-E2-14 was detected by tensiometric study as the critical micelle concentration (cmc) of AMT+14-E2-14 is reduced upon an increase of mole fraction (α1) of 14-E2-14. The decrease in cmc indicates the nonideality of studied mixtures of different compositions. Although, employed drug AMT is freely soluble in the aqueous and non-aqueous system but is not hydrophobic enough to act as its carrier. Instead, gemini surfactant formed spherical micelles in an aqueous system and their high solubilization capability, as well as their relatively lower cmc value, makes them highly stable in vivo. The cmc values of AMT+14-E-14 mixtures in all cases were further decreased and increased in NaCl and urea solutions respectively as compared with the aqueous system. Numerous micellar, interfacial, and thermodynamic parameters have been measured by applying various theoretical models. The obtained changes in the physicochemical assets of AMT upon adding of 14-E2-14 are likely to enhance the industrial and pharmaceutical applications of gemini surfactants. The negative interaction parameters (βm and βσ), indicate synergistic attraction is occurring in the mixed systems. The aggregation number (Nagg), Stern–Volmer constant (Ksv), etc. are attained through the fluorescence method, also supporting the attractive interaction behavior of AMT+14-E2-14 mixtures in all solvents. The Nagg was found to increase in the salt solution and decrease in the urea system compared with the aqueous solution. FT-IR and UV-visible analysis also depict the interaction between the constituent alike tensiometry and fluorimetry methods. The results suggested that gemini surfactants may serve as a capable drug delivery agent for antidepressants, improving their bioavailability.
