Abstract
The efficacy of many edible bioactive agents is limited by their low water dispersibility and chemical instability in foods, as well as by their poor bioaccessibility, low absorption, and metabolism within the human gastrointestinal tract. Whey proteins are amphiphilic molecules that can be used to construct a variety of edible carrier systems that can improve the performance of bioactive ingredients. These carrier systems are being used by the food and biomedical industries to encapsulate, protect, and deliver a variety of bioactive agents. In this article, we begin by providing an overview of the molecular and functional characteristics of whey proteins, and then discuss their interactions with various kinds of bioactive agents. The ability of whey proteins to be used as building blocks to assemble different kinds of carrier systems is then discussed, including nanoparticles, hydrogels, oleogels, bigels, nanofibers, nanotubes, and nanoemulsions. Moreover, applications of these carrier systems are highlighted. Different kinds of whey protein-based carriers can be used to encapsulate, protect, and deliver bioactive agents. Each kind of carrier has its own characteristics, which make them suitable for different application needs in foods and other products. Previous studies suggest that whey protein-based carriers are particularly suitable for protecting chemically labile bioactive agents and for prolonging their release profiles. In the future, it is likely that the applications of whey protein-based carriers in the food and pharmaceutical fields will expand.

Abstract
A novel redox-responsive mPEG-SS-PLA (PSP) polymeric micelle was synthesized and prepared for the delivery of sorafenib (SAF) and curcumin (CUR). And a series of validations were conducted to confirm the structure of the synthesized polymer carriers. Using the Chou-Talalay approach, the combination indexes (CI) of SAF and CUR were determined, and explore the inhibitory effects of the two drugs on HepG2R cells at different ratios. SAF/CUR-PSP polymeric micelles were prepared by thin film hydration method, and the physicochemical properties of nanomicelles were evaluated. The biocompatibility, cell uptake, cell migration, and cytotoxicity assays were assessed in HepG2R cells. The expression of the phosphoinositol-3 kinase (PI3K)/serine/threonine kinase (Akt) signaling pathway was detected by Western blot assay. Additionally, the tumor suppressive effect of SAF/CUR-PSP micelles was clearly superior to free drug monotherapy or their physical combination in HepG2 cell-induced tumor xenografts. The current study revealed that mPEG-SS-PLA polymer micelles loaded with SAF and CUR showed the enhanced therapeutic effects against hepatocellular carcinoma in vitro and in vivo models. It has promising applications for cancer therapy.

Abstract
The loading, delivery, and release of Pt(IV) precursors in living organisms are important aspects of exploring the development of platinum drugs. In recent years, the biological application of the fluorescent sensors to platinum drugs has been insufficient to meet the study of Pt(IV) precursors. It is urgent to design and develop a biocompatible, multifunctional fluorescent sensor for the study of loading, transport, and release of Pt(IV) ions. Herein, we report a fluorescent molecule (E)-6-(diethylamino)-N'-(4-(diphenylamino) benzylidene)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3 carbohydrazide (CHTPA). CHTPA has good sensitivity and selectivity to Pt(IV) when the water content is 5%, and significant increase of the fluorescence emission intensity of CHTPA is observed with Pt(IV) concentration. The sensing mechanism is attributed to photo-induced electron transfer, which is verified by X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy spectra, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectra, and Fourier transform infrared spectra. Furthermore, the CHTPA-Pt(IV) complex is able to release Pt(IV) in aqueous solution, and the green fluorescence of CHTPA based on the aggregation-induced emission effect can be observed. Inspired by these, the amphiphilic block copolymer poly(ethyloxide)-block-polystyrene (PEO-b-PS) is used to prepare the nonconjugated polymer dots (Pdots). The experimental results show that Pdots can effectively slow down the release speed of Pt(IV) in aqueous solution and it has a great monodispersity in aqueous solution. Meanwhile, Pdots show low cytotoxicity, and this is favorable for intracellular applications. The investigation of cellular imaging indicates that these Pdots can act as a carrier to deliver Pt(IV) into MCF-7 cells for visualized delivery and sustained release of platinum(IV) ions. Therefore, this study provides a new avenue to design and develop a biocompatible multifunctional fluorescent sensor for studying the loading, delivery, and release of Pt(IV) in cells.

Abstract
Pluronic block copolymers have phase behavioural characteristics which are extensively studied for drug delivery applications. In this study, we explored hydrophilic pluronic F108 (HLB = 27), hydrophobic pluronic L81 (HLB = 2) and their mixed micelles acting as solubilising mediums for model drug aceclofenac. The drug solubilisation and interactions have been analysed using UV-visible spectroscopy, Fluorescence spectroscopy, Rheology studies, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscope, Dynamic light scattering, Cloud point and partition coefficient measurements. The investigation from UV-spectrophotometry demonstrated that mixed pluronic entrapped greater number of aceclofenac molecules than both the neat pluronics at same concentration. Excimer formation was evidenced from fluorescence spectra with pyrene as a probe. The rheological studies showed difference in viscosity over low shear range. Studies on FTIR demonstrated probable bonding between the aceclofenac and mixed pluronic molecules. The DLS studies on mixed pluronic showed swelling of micellar diameter from 317.6 nm to 413.5 nm. Thermodynamic parameters of the above system revealed higher partition coefficient value for mixed pluronic and spontaneity in drug solubilisation. This study can be exploited to use a hydrophobic copolymeric micelle in mixed pluronic formulation for better drug solubilisation.

Abstract
Infectious diseases related to the vagina include diseases caused by the imbalance of the vaginal flora and by sexually transmitted infections. Some of these present themselves as a public health problem due to the lack of efficient treatment that leads to their complete cure, and others due to the growing resistance to drugs used in therapy. In this sense, new treatment strategies are desirable, with vaginal administration rout being a great choice since can bypass first-pass metabolism and decrease drug interactions and adverse effects. However, it is worth highlighting limitations related to patient's discomfort at application time. Thereby, the use of poloxamer-based drug delivery systems is desirable due its stimuli-sensitive characteristic. Therefore, the present review reports a brief overview of poloxamer properties, biological behavior and advances in poloxamer applications in controlled drug release systems for infectious diseases related to the vagina treatment and prevention.
