In situ synthesis of ultrafine Cu(ii) metal immobilized on pectin hydrogel, modified by a CoFe2O4/Pr-SO3H nanocomposite as a green catalyst for reduction of nitro compounds and synthesis of 1H-tetrazoles

Synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles and reduction of a variety of nitro compounds presents a promising solution for the pharmaceutical and agricultural industries. However, the development of green catalysts with superior catalytic performance for this reaction remains a significant challenge. This research introduces a green protocol for the in situ creation of ultrafine Cu(ii) metal immobilized on the surface of pectin hydrogel (HPEC), modified by a CoFe2O4/Pr-SO3H magnetic nanocomposite, enabling the synthesis of tetrazoles and reduction of nitro compounds. This catalyst exhibits superior catalytic performance under green reaction conditions, short reaction time, catalyst separation, and thermal stability. The heterogeneous catalyst's structure and composition were thoroughly analyzed using various techniques such as FT-IR, FE-SEM, VSM, ICP-OES, TGA, XRD, BET, EDX, and X-ray mapping.

A novel magnetic FSM-16 supported ionic liquid/Pd complex as a high performance and recyclable catalyst for the synthesis of pyrano[3,2-c]chromenes

In this work, Fe3O4@FSM-16/IL-Pd was successfully designed and synthesized via a new procedure of palladium(ii) complex immobilization onto magnetic FSM-16 using an ionic liquid, as a novel heterogeneous nanocatalyst. Multiple techniques were employed to characterize this magnetic nanocatalyst such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Vibrating Sample Magnetometry (VSM). After complete characterization of the catalyst, its catalytic activity was used for the synthesis of pyrano[3,2-c]chromene-3-carbonitriles via the reaction of 4-hydroxycoumarin, aldehyde, and malononitrile under solvent-free conditions. Also, it can be recovered and reused several times without a significant decrease in its catalytic activity or palladium leaching.

Tetrazole derivatives in the management of neurological disorders: Recent advances on synthesis and pharmacological aspects

Neurological disorders are the leading cause of a large number of mortalities and morbidities. Nitrogen heterocyclic compounds have been pivotal in exhibiting wide array of therapeutic applications. Among them, tetrazole is a ubiquitous class of organic heterocyclic compounds that have attracted much attention because of its unique structural and chemical properties, and a wide range of pharmacological activities comprising anti-convulsant effect, antibiotic, anti-allergic, anti-hypertensive to name a few. Owing to significant chemical and biological properties, the present review aimed at highlighting the recent advances in tetrazole derivatives with special emphasis on their role in the management of neurological diseases. Besides, in-depth structure-activity relationships, molecular docking studies, and associated modes of action of tetrazole derivatives evident in in vitro, in vivo preclinical, and clinical studies have been discussed.

Combination mechanism of the ternary composite based on Fe3O4-chitosan-graphene oxide prepared by solvothermal method

Magnetic nanohybrid combining chitosan and graphene have demonstrated promising application in environmental remediation. Herein, ternary composite MCG based on Fe₃O₄, chitosan (CS) and graphene oxide (GO) was facilely prepared via solvothermal method. The as prepared composite was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman, Brunauer/Emmett/Teller-Barret/Joyner/Halenda (BET-BJH) and thermo gravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The combination mechanism of MCG was unveiled via employing the hard-soft acid-base (HSAB) theory and spectroscopic investigations including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) and fluorescent emission spectra. Particularly, combination mechanism of MCG was elucidated by the probable site to site interaction of the couplet components in MCG, as follows. (1) CS-Fe₃O₄. The primary interaction is N(NH₂)-Fe(III), electron donates from N to Fe, transforming one half of the amino groups of chitosan into positive N⁺. (2) GO-CS. Amidation reaction is the primary interaction form, converting the other half of the amino groups of chitosan into -C(O)NH-. (3) GO-Fe₃O₄. Dominant interactions are those of epoxy, hydroxyl and aromatic ring with Fe(III). Moreover, MCG exhibits fair adsorption performance on divalent heavy metals in six consecutive cycles. These explorations may shed light on the design of efficient adsorbent based on Fe₃O₄-chitosan-graphene architecture.
