Abstract
Schiff base polymer (SBP) is a new research field and an excellent candidate for real-life applications such as photoresistors, fluorescent chemical sensing kits, electrochromic devices, flame-retarders, and electrochemical substances. The dye-containing SBP (DSBP) advances the material further. Herein, the quality of pyrene dye has been improved through its chemical attachment to polyethyleneimine by a facile Schiff base reaction. The new Schiff base polymer (SBP) converts water-insoluble aggregation-causing quenched (ACQ) dye into a highly water-soluble aggregation-induced emissive (AIE) dye. The computational analysis (geometry optimization, FMO analysis, MEP, etc.) elucidates the nature of aggregation (H, J, X, etc.) and its impact on AIE properties. The AIE system is suitable for fabricating a pH sensor, a fluorescence logic gate, and a reusable chemical sensing kit.

Abstract
Recent studies show that some metal ions, injure microbial cells in various ways due to membrane breakdown, protein malfunction, and oxidative stress. Metal complexes are suited for creating novel antibacterial medications due to their distinct mechanisms of action and the variety of three-dimensional geometries they can acquire. In this Perspective, the present study focused on new antibacterial strategies based on metal oleoyl amide complexes. Thus, oleoyl amides ligand (fatty hydroxamic acid and fatty hydrazide hydrate) with the transition metal ions named Ag (I), Co (II), Cu (II), Ni (II) and Sn (II) complexes were successfully synthesized in this study. The metals- oleoyl amide were characterized using elemental analysis, and fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The antibacterial effect of metals- oleoyl amide complexes was investigated for Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli) and Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus) by analysing minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that metal-oleoyl amide complexes have high antibacterial activity at low concentrations. This study inferred that metal oleoyl amide complexes could be utilised as a promising therapeutic antibacterial agent.

Abstract
A series of novel ONO ligands bearing an ionic pendant-armed (hereinafter indicated as ONONu, where Nu corresponds to an anionic nucleophile) were synthesized, characterized, and successfully coordinated to cobalt and manganese precursors. New air-stable cobalt (III) complexes (1–6) and manganese (II) complexes (7 and 8) were obtained and characterized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of the Co(III) compound 5 confirmed the presence of two quaternized ligands coordinated to the metal and iodide as counterion. These novel complexes were revealed to be active catalysts in the coupling reaction of carbon dioxide and propylene oxide (PO) in different degrees of success. Among these, the manganese complex 8 afforded the best results towards the formation of propylene carbonate (PC) with a productivity of 256 kg PC/(kg cat·h), achieving a TON of 4860.

Abstract
A novel derivative of ibuprofen and salicylaldehyde N′-(4-hydroxybenzylidene)-2-(4-isobutylphenyl) propane hydrazide (HL) was synthesized, followed by its complexation with Cu, Ni, Co, Gd, and Sm. The compounds obtained were characterized by 1HNMR, mass spectrometry, UV-Vis spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis (DTA and TGA), conductivity measurements, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The results indicate that the complexes formed were [Cu(L)(H2O)]Cl·2H2O, [Ni(L)2], [Co(L)2]·H2O, [Gd(L)2(H2O)2](NO3)·2H2O and [Sm(L)2(H2O)2](NO3)·2H2O. The surface characteristics of the produced compounds were evaluated by DFT calculations using the MOE environment. The docking was performed against the COX2 targeting protein (PDB code: 5IKT Homo sapiens). The binding energies were −7.52, −9.41, −9.51, −8.09, −10.04, and −8.05 kcal/mol for HL and the Co, Ni, Cu, Sm, and Gd complexes, respectively, which suggests the enhancement of anti-inflammatory behaviors compared with the binding energy of ibuprofen (−5.38 kcal/mol). The anti-inflammatory properties of the new compounds were assessed in vitro using the western blot analysis method and the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), consistent with the outcomes obtained from docking. The half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values are 4.9, 1.7, 3.7, 5.6, 2.9, and 2.3 µM for HL and the Co, Ni, Cu, Sm, and Gd complexes, respectively, showing that they are more effective inhibitors of COX2 than ibuprofen (IC50 = 31.4 µM). The brain or intestinal estimated permeation method (BOILED-Egg) showed that HL and its Co complex have high gastrointestinal absorption, while only the free ligand has high brain penetration. The binding constants of Co, Cu, and Gd complexes with DNA were recorded as 2.20 × 104, 2.27 × 106, and 4.46 × 103 M−1, respectively, indicating the intercalator behavior of interaction. The newly synthesized ibuprofen derivative and its metal complexes showed greater anti-inflammatory activity than ibuprofen.

Abstract
Schiff bases are a vast group of compounds characterized by the presence of a double bond linking carbon and nitrogen atoms, the versatility of which is generated in the many ways to combine a variety of alkyl or aryl substituents. Compounds of this type are both found in nature and synthesized in the laboratory. For years, Schiff bases have been greatly inspiring to many chemists and biochemists. In this article, we attempt to present a new take on this group of compounds, underlining of the importance of various types of Schiff bases. Among the different types of compounds that can be classified as Schiff bases, we chose hydrazides, dihydrazides, hydrazones and mixed derivatives such as hydrazide-hydrazones. For these compounds, we presented the elements of their structure that allow them to be classified as Schiff bases. While hydrazones are typical examples of Schiff bases, including hydrazides among them may be surprising for some. In their case, this is possible due to the amide-iminol tautomerism. The carbon-nitrogen double bond present in the iminol tautomer is a typical element found in Schiff bases. In addition to the characteristics of the structure of these selected derivatives, and sometimes their classification, we presented selected literature items which, in our opinion, represent their importance in various fields well.

Abstract
A chelating ligand of thioether with ONS donor Schiff base HL [(E)-2-(((2-(benzylthio)phenyl)imino)methyl)napthalen-1-ol] and its metal complexes (RuL1 and RuL2) have been synthesized. They have been characterized by UV-Vis, FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectrometry methods. The formulas of the synthesized compounds have been confirmed by elemental analysis and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The binding ability studies of the ligand (HL) and its Ru complexes (RuL1 and RuL2), with calf-thymus DNA have been explored by the absorption titration method. The binding interaction study reveals that the ligand (HL) and the complex RuL1 interact with CT-DNA through an intercalative mode of binding whereas the complex RuL2 does not show any interaction with CT-DNA due to steric effect.

Abstract
From the reaction of ceftriaxone 1 antibiotic with 2,6-diaminopyridine 2 a ceftriaxone-based Schiff base (H2L,3) was obtained and its transition metal complexes were synthesized. Spectroscopic and physicochemical techniques, namely, UV-visible, FT-IR, 1H NMR, EPR, mass spectrometry, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, together with elemental and thermal analyses, were used to find out the binding mode and composition of these complexes. The ceftriaxone-based Schiff base 3 behaves as a monoanionic tridentate N,N,O ligand. Spectral and magnetic data suggest an octahedral geometry for all complexes and the general formulae [M(HL)(OAc)(H2O)2] (M(II) = Mn2+4, Co2+5, Ni2+6, Cu2+7, Zn2+8), are proposed for them. All compounds were screened for antibacterial activity using both the agar disc diffusion method and the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC). It was found that complex 8 exhibited the most promising bactericidal activity against S. aureus (MIC = 0.0048 μmol/ml) and E. coli (MIC = 0.0024 μmol/ml). It is more active than the free ligand 1 (MIC = 0.0560 μmol/ml for S. aureus and 0.0140 μmol/ml for E. coli). These MIC results were compared with those obtained using similar zinc(II) Schiff base complexes, and with the values obtained using ceftriaxone conjugated with silver and gold nanoparticles (NPs), using earlier published data. Synthesized metal complexes exhibited LC50 values >1000 ppm indicating their nontoxicity against brine shrimp nauplii (Artemia Salina).

Abstract
The synthesis of mixed-ligand complexes is considered an important strategy for developing new metal complexes of enhanced biological activity. This paper presents the synthesis, characterization, in vitro antimicrobial assessment, and theoretical molecular docking evaluation for synthesized oxidovanadium (V) complexes. The proposed structures of the synthesized compounds were proved using elemental and different spectroscopic analysis. The antimicrobial tests showed moderate activity of the compounds against the Gram-positive bacterial strains and the fungal yeast, whereas no activity was observed against the Gram-negative bacterial strains. The performance of density functional theory (DFT) was conducted to study the interaction mode of the targeted compounds with the biological system. Calculating the quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSPR) was performed depending on optimization geometries, frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs), and chemical reactivities for synthesized compounds. The molecular electrostatic potentials (MEPs) that were plotted link the interaction manner of synthesized compounds with the receptor. The molecular docking evaluation revealed that the examined compounds may possess potential antibacterial activity.

Abstract
There is an urgent need to eliminate the era of superbugs through design and development of novel and sustainable drugs. Transition metal complexes can be one of the hopes for tackling drug resistant pathogens. In this view, we have developed a manganese complex appended with an ON donor ligand which has shown excellent activity against one of the prominent fungal species. The Mn (II) complex, [MnII(OH2)2(Hhpdbal-sbdt)2] (1) was synthesized using a Schiff base ligand derived from an azo aldehyde and S-benzyldithiocarbazate. The complex was characterized with the help of analytical techniques such as elemental analysis, FT-IR, EDAX, EPR and TGA. The solution behavior in physiological conditions and in biological media was preliminarily evaluated by studying the behavior of complex in varied pH conditions and in the presence of protein, BSA. The effect of the compound on few drug resistant pathogenic species of bacteria and fungi and on the uptake of glucose by insulin resistant cells was evaluated using whole cell inhibition assay and NBDG assay respectively. The study gave a noteworthy result with respect to the manganese compound's biological activity, with an inhibitory activity of 93% towards a fungi species, Cryptococcus neoformans and with a relatively good glucose uptake inducing capacity. The manganese complex, which maintains its stability over a wide range of pH conditions and interacts with serum protein, BSA in a facile manner can be an excellent drug candidate and eventually be added to the library of compounds being screened for in vivo activity studies.

Abstract
A relatively unexplored synthetic route in redox-active Mn(II/III) coordination chemistry has been employed toward the preparation of a new mixed-valence MnII/III 1-D linear chain from the reaction of [MnIII(sacb)2]− precursor with a MnII source, where sacbH2 is the Schiff base ligand N-salicylidene-2-amino-5-chlorobenzoic acid. The mononuclear (Pr2NH2)[MnIII(sacb)2] (1) compound was obtained in excellent yields (>85%) from the 1:2:3 reaction of Mn(O2CMe)2∙4H2O, sacbH2 and Pr2NH, respectively. In 1, the two doubly deprotonated sacb2− ligands act as Ocarboxylate,Nimine,Ophenoxide-tridentate chelates, while the second carboxylate O atom of sacb2− is dangling and H-bonded to the Pr2NH2+ countercation. Complex 1 was subsequently used as a ‘ligand’ to react stoichiometrically with the ‘metal’ Mn(NO3)2∙4H2O, thus leading to the 1-D coordination polymer {[MnIIMnIII(sacb)2(H2O)2(MeOH)2](NO3)}n (2) in good yields (~50%). The removal of Pr2NH2+ from the vicinity of the [MnIII(sacb)2]− metalloligand has rendered possible (vide infra) the coordination of the second Ocarboxylate of sacb2− to neighboring {MnII(H2O)2(MeOH)2}2+ units, and consequently the formation of the 1-D polymer 2. Direct-current (dc) magnetic susceptibility studies revealed the presence of very weak antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between alternating MnIII and MnII atoms with a coupling constant of J = −0.08 cm−1 for g = 2.00. The combined results demonstrate the potential of the ‘metal complexes as ligands’ approach to yield new mixed-valence Mn(II/III) coordination polymers with interesting structural motifs and physicochemical properties.

Abstract
The synthesis of new moisture-sensitive imine-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursor salts [1-(2-[(hydroxyl-benzylidene)-amino]-ethyl)-3-R-3H-imidazole-1-ium bromide; R = methyl (1a), ethyl (1b), and benzyl (1c)] is reported. Subsequent deprotonation of 1a-c and coordination of the in situ generated NHC ligands to CoBr2 led to the isolation of air-stable six-coordinate Co(III) complexes 2a-c, respectively. All the salts and complexes were fully characterized. Single-crystal X-ray analysis of 2a and 2c showed octahedral Co centers hexacoordinated to two NHC carbons, two imine nitrogen atoms, and two phenolate oxygens in the form [C^N^O(Co3+)C^N^O]. The complexes were used in the catalytic transfer hydrogenation (CTH) of a range of ketones in 2-propanol as the solvent and hydrogen donor. Based on a low catalyst concentration of 0.4 mol %, significant conversions in the range of 70-99% were recorded at high turnover frequencies up to 1635 h-1. A mechanism to account for the steps involved in the CTH of cyclohexanone by complex 2a is proposed and supported by data from cyclic voltammetry, low-resolution mass spectrometry, UV, and IR spectroscopic techniques.

Abstract
New tailored copper(II)-based intercalating complexes [Cu(L1)2] (1) and [Cu(L2)2] (2) were synthesized from Schiff base scaffold HL1 and HL2(E)-4-(2-((2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)amino)ethyl)benzenesulfonamide and (E)-4-(2-((2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino)ethyl)benzenesulfonamide, respectively. The structure elucidation of complexes 1 and 2 was carried out by employing various spectroscopic techniques viz., FT-IR, UV-vis, ESI-MS, EPR and single X-ray crystal diffraction studies. The complexes 1 and 2 were crystallized in monoclinic P21/n and triclinic P-1 space group, respectively possessing square planar geometry around Cu(II) coordinated with N,O-donor Schiff base ligands. An analysis of Hirshfeld surfaces of complexes 1 and 2 were performed to ascertain different intra and intermolecular non-covalent interactions (H-bonding, CH⋯ πetc.) responsible for the stabilization of crystal lattices. Calculations based on Density functional theory (B3LYP/DFT), have been carried out to obtain energies of Frontier molecular orbitals. Comparative in vitro binding profile of complexes 1 and 2 with ct-DNA was evaluated employing various biophysical techniques viz., UV-vis, fluorescence, circular dichroism and cyclic voltammetry which suggested non-covalent intercalative binding mode with more avid binding propensity of complex 1 compared to complex 2. The cleavage experiments of complex 1 was performed by gel electrophoretic assay which revealed efficient cleavage mediated via oxidative pathway. Furthermore, topoisomerase I enzymatic activity of complex 1 was carried out employing gel electrophoretic assay which demonstrated significant inhibitory effects at a low concentration of 25 µM. The cytotoxic potential of complex 1 was analyzed by SRB assay on a panel of selected human cancer cell lines which revealed selective activity for MCF-7 (breast cancer) cell line with GI50 = 16.21 µg/ml.

Abstract
The four Schiff bases (I - IV) were synthesized by the condensation reaction of 1(1-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)ethanone, 1-(4-chloro-1hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)ethanone and 1-(4-bromo-1-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)ethanone with propane-1,3-diamine and pentane-1,3-diamine. The structural analysis is done by UVvis., FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, LCMS and elemental analyses. These compounds were assayed for antibacterial (Escherichia coli and Salmonella Typhi) activity and antioxidant (2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picryl Hydrazyl(DPPH) and Hydroxyl radical scavenging method) activity. The antibacterial and antioxidant activities of synthesized Schiff bases exhibited better degrees of inhibitory effects. Among these, Schiff base 2,2'-((propane-1,3-diylbis(azanylylidene))bis(ethan-1-yl-1-ylidene))bis(4-chloronaphthalen-1-ol) (II) exhibited excellent antibacterial activity with MICs of 0.12, 0.25, 0.5 and 1 mg/ml against E. coli and Salmonella Typhi. Furthermore, two Schiff bases such as, 2,2'-((propane-1,3-diylbis(azanylylidene))bis(ethan-1-yl-1-ylidene))bis(naphthalen-1-ol) (I) and 2,2'-((pentane-1,3-diylbis(azanylylidene))bis(ethan-1-yl-1-ylidene))bis(4-bromonaphthalen-1-ol) (IV) exhibited promising antioxidant activity.

Abstract
ONO-Pincer Schiff base salicylidene (HSaln ligand) complexes with VO2+, UO2 2+, MoO2 2+ and Mn2+ ions (MSaln complexes = VOSaln, UO2Saln, MoO2Saln and MnSaln, respectively) were synthesized and fully characterized by different physico-chemical tools. The VOSaln complex was further treated with 1,10-phenanthroline which afforded a new VO-complex (VOSaln-Ph). All complexes and their ligands, as eco-friendly reagents, were explored for their biological potential as antibacterial and antifungal agents. Reactivity of MSaln complexes against the tested pathogen strains exhibited a remarkable inhibitory effect compared to the coordinated ligand (HSaln) and applicable standard drugs. Moreover, the MSaln complex-DNA interaction was investigated by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, viscosity and gel electrophoresis techniques affording binding strengths in the order: UO2Saln > MnSaln > MoO2Saln > VOSaln-Ph > VOSaln. Additionally, the biological potential of the investigated compounds was further explored by molecular docking to illustrate the nature of the drug-DNA interactions. All MSaln complexes show respectable anti-proliferative potential as anticancer agents against selected human carcinoma cell lines. Aside from the biological activities these complexes (MSaln complexes) were also investigated for catalytic efficiency in the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling system of phenylboronic acid with 2-bromopyridine in water, sustainably. The results indicated that the MnSaln catalyst performed well with high yield. The catalytic potential of MnSaln was compared in water, water-ionic liquid mixtures and ionic liquids.

Abstract
(E)-2-(3-Hydroxy-4-methoxybenzylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide 3 was synthesized by reacting thiosemicarbazide with 2-hydorxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde in dry ethanol. The structure was elucidated by spectroscopic (FT-IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR) and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. A detailed analysis of the intermolecular interactions has been performed based on the Hirshfeld surfaces and their associated two-dimensional fingerprint plots. DFT, spectroscopic, and electrochemical DNA-binding analysis confirmed that the compound is reactive to bind with DNA. Viscometric studies suggested that compound 3 has a mixed mode of interaction and intercalated into the DNA base pairs predominantly along with the possibility of electrostatic interactions. Abstract
Photophysical properties for excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) reaction of N-salicylidene-o-aminophenol (SA) Schiff base were comprehensively studied based on experimental methods combined with theoretical calculations. The results revealed that the SA was mainly presented in enol form in acidic solutions while it was predominantly existed in keto form in basic solutions. From UV-vis absorption and fluorescence emission studies, it showed that the ESIPT could effectively take place in non-polar and aprotic polar solvents. By using the CAM-B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory, it was found that the intramolecular proton transfer could preferably occur through six-membered ring transition rather than through five-membered ring transition. The dynamics of the ESIPT reactions of enol and keto tautomers were studied using TD-CAM-B3LYP with 6-311G(d,p) basis set. The potential energy curves for the intramolecular proton transfer in the ground (GSIPT) and excited state (ESIPT) exhibited that the GSIPT could occur through a low activation barrier, whereas in the case of ESIPT, the process could arise via low energy barrier.
