Abstract
To develop a severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) model transited from mild symptoms, we investigated a “two-hit” strategy with L-arginine in mice. The mice were intraperitoneally injected with ice-cold L-arginine (4 g/kg) twice at an interval of 1 h on the first day and subjected to the repeated operation 72 h afterwards. The results showed the “two-hit” strategy resulted in the destructive damage and extensive necrosis of acinar cells in the pancreas compared with the “one-hit” model. Meanwhile, excessive levels of pro-inflammatory mediators, namely IL-6 and TNF-α, were released in the serum. Remarkably, additional deleterious effects on multiple organs were observed, including high intestinal permeability, kidney injury, and severe acute lung injury. Therefore, we confirmed that the SAP animal model triggered by a “two-hit” strategy with L-arginine was successfully established, providing a solid foundation for a deeper understanding of SAP initiation and therapy research to prevent worsening of the disease.

Abstract
The similar L-arginine molecule aggregation has been found in L-arginine (LA) and L-arginine phosphate monohydrate (LAP) aqueous solutions. The special fluorescence emission at 380 nm of LA aggregates in LAP solution has been found, compared with the emission of LA solution at 415 nm, which has an obvious blue shift. By comparing the fluorescence spectra of several solutions for L-arginine and L-lysine salts, the interaction between phosphate and guanidine in LAP solution was considered to be the cause of its special fluorescence emission. Meanwhile, when LAP molecule formed in solution, the fluorescence emission wavelength and the UV absorption intensity at 296 nm of L-arginine solutions have mutated. Therefore, the group interaction involved by guanidine has changed the fluorescence properties of L-arginine aggregates in LAP solution, indicating that the specific interaction between phosphate and guanidine exists in LAP molecule.

Abstract
In current work, the authors have been applied the density functional theory (DFT) using B3LYP and CAM-B3LYP exchange-correlation functional with 6-31G(∗) basis set on l-arginine p-nitrobenzoate monohydrate (LANB) molecule for the first time to optimize its geometry and study the spectroscopic, electronic structure, nonlinear optical properties. Vibrational modes were found in good agreement with experimental reports. The calculated UV spectra by B3LYP/6-31G(∗) and CAM-B3LYP/6-31G(∗) level of theory shows an electronic transition at ∼268 nm (4.63 eV) and 264 nm (4.70 eV) respectively. To explain the charge interaction taking place within the molecule highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital were analyzed and their calculated energy gap was found to be 4.3eV with an oscillatory strength 0.3796 at B3LYP/6-31G(∗) level of theory. The dipole moment (μtot), average and anisotropy of polarizability (αtot, Δα) and static and total first hyperpolarizability (β0, βtot) values were calculated. The value of μtot and βtot are found to be 4.124D and 1.630 × 10(-30) esu and 4.127D and 1.133 × 10(-30) esu using B3LYP/6-31G(∗) and CAM-B3LYP/6-31G(∗) functional respectively. The value of βtot is >4 and >3 times higher than prototype urea molecule calculated at both level of theory, respectively. The molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), frontier molecular orbital's (FMOs), global reactivity descriptors and thermodynamic properties are also calculated and discussed. The properties of LANB calculated at B3LYP are in good correlation with experimental than the CAM-B3LYP level of theory. The obtained results show that LANB molecule can be treated as a good candidate for nonlinear optical devices.

Abstract
In spite of the importance of anisotropic circular dichroism, in practice, it is difficult to get rid of the artifacts that arise from the imperfection of the circular polarization. Undesirable linear dichroism, interference of two orthogonal polarization states, and linear birefringence prevent us from making accurate measurements. We propose a theoretical method for evaluating the contributions of the first two, which are thought to be the main artifacts when specimens are not thick enough. Using the time-dependent perturbation theory and taking into account the direction of light propagation toward an orientationally fixed molecule, we formulated the transition probability of systems perturbed by arbitrarily polarized light and the absorption difference associated with two kinds of polarized light. We also formulated, as an extension of the dissymmetry factor of circular dichroism, a newly defined dissymmetry factor associated with two arbitrary polarization states. Furthermore, we considered a mixed-state of photon ensemble in which polarization states distribute at a certain width around a certain average. Although the purity of polarization and ellipticity does not correspond immediately, by considering the mixed state it is possible to treat them consistently. We used quantum statistical mechanics to describe the absorption difference for two kinds of photon ensembles and applied the consequent formula to examine the reported experimental results of single-molecule chiroptical responses under discussion in the recent past. The artifacts are theoretically suggested to be sensitive to the incident direction of elliptically polarized light and to the oriented systems, the ellipticity, and the orientation of ellipse. The mixed state has little, if any, effect when the polarization state distribution is narrow.

Abstract
A formula for an anisotropic dissymmetry factor g evaluating the chiroptical response of orientationally fixed molecules is derived. Incorporating zeroth- and first-order multipole expansion terms, it is applied to bridged triarylamine helicene molecules to examine the experimental results of single-molecule chiroptical spectroscopy. The ground- and excited-state wave functions and a series of transition moments required for the evaluation of the anisotropic g value are calculated using time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT). The probability histograms obtained for simulated g values, uniformly sampled in regard to the direction of light propagation toward the fixed molecule, show that even for a given diastereomer, the dissymmetry factors have positive and negative values and can deviate from their averages to a considerable extent when the angle between the electric dipole transition moment and the propagation vector of the incident light is near 0 or 180°.
