Abstract
New iridium(III) compounds (C1-C3) bearing 2-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)quinoline ligands with different side groups (benzyl, 2,3,4,5,6-pentamethylbenzyl and 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzyl) were synthesized and characterized by using spectroscopic analyses. The effects of different side groups of iridium compounds on the photophysical and electrochemical properties have been investigated. The cytotoxicity and apoptosis of the compounds have been evaluated on breast cancer cell lines using various methods including MTT assay, flow cytometry, qRT-PCR, and colony formation. The cytotoxicity of C1, expressed as IC50 values, was found to be 11.76 μM for MDA-MB-231 and 5.35 μM for MCF-7 cells. For C3, the IC50 value was 16.22 μM for MDA-MB-231 and 8.85 μM for MCF-7 cells. In both cell lines, increased levels of Bax and caspase 3, along with downregulation of BCL-2 and positive annexin V staining, were observed, confirming apoptosis. Moreover, the colony-forming abilities in both cell lines decreased after C1 and C3 complex treatment. All these results suggest that the compounds C1 and C3 may have potential in the treatment of breast cancer, though further research is needed to confirm their efficacy.

Abstract
The acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling (ADC) reaction is an efficient method for synthesizing quinoline and its derivatives. In this paper, various substituted quinolines were synthesized from 2-aminobenzyl alcohols and aryl/heteroaryl/alkyl secondary alcohols in one pot via a cyclometalated iridium-catalyzed ADC reaction. This method has some advantages, such as easy availability of raw materials, mild reaction conditions, wide range of substrates, and environmental friendliness which conforms to the principles of green chemistry. Furthermore, a gram-scale experiment with low catalyst loading offers the potential to access the aryl/heteroaryl quinolones in suitable amounts. In addition, the antibacterial and antifungal activities of the synthesized quinolines were evaluated in vitro, and the experimental results showed that the antibacterial activities of compounds 3ab, 3ad, and 3ah against Gram-positive bacteria and compound 3ck against C. albicans were better than the reference drug norfloxacin.

. In complexes 1 and 2, the coordination geometry is a distorted tetrahedral environment around the zinc center and a distorted sixfold coordination geometry around the lead center, respectively. In complex 3 the central Cu(II) center is in a trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometry. The Cu(II) ion is surrounded by two bidentate 2-(2′-quinolyl)benzimidazole (BQ) ligands and one coordinated acetate molecule. One further acetate anion associated by a strong hydrogen bond with a molecule of acetic acid balances the charge of the compound.

In vitro leishmanicidal activity and theoretical insights into biological action of ruthenium(II) organometallic complexes containing anti-inflammatories. Biometals 2018; 31:1003-1017. Abstract
Leishmaniasis, a neglected tropical disease caused by protozoans of the genus Leishmania, kills around 20-30 thousand people in Africa, Asia, and Latin America annually and, despite its potential lethality, it can be treated and eventually cured. However, the current treatments are limited owing to severe side effects and resistance development by some Leishmania. These factors make it urgent to develop new leishmanicidal drugs. In the present study, three ruthenium(II) organometallic complexes containing as ligands the commercially available anti-inflammatories diclofenac (dic), ibuprofen (ibu), and naproxen (nap) were synthesized, characterized, and subjected to in vitro leishmanicidal activity. The in vitro cytotoxicity assays against Leishmania (L.) amazonensis and Leishmania (L.) infantum promastigotes have shown that complexes [RuCl(dic)(η6-p-cymene)] (1) and [RuCl(nap)(η6-p-cymene)] (3) were active against both Leishmania species. Complex [RuCl(ibu)(η6-p-cymene)] (2) has exhibited no activity. The IC50 values for the two active complexes were respectively 7.42 and 23.55 μM, for L. (L.) amazonensis, and 8.57 and 42.25 μM, for L. (L.) infantum. Based on the toxicological results and computational analysis, we proposed a correlation between the complexes and their activity. Our results suggest both complexation to ruthenium(II) and ligands structure are key elements to leishmanicidal activity.

Abstract
A series of ClRe(CO)3-containing complexes with 1-methyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)quinoline (Me-QuBIm), 1-benzyl-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)quinoline (Bn-QuBIm), and 2-(1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)quinoline (OMeBn-QuBIm) ligands were prepared and characterized. Each complex was characterized using 1H and 13C NMR, infrared, UV–vis, and fluorescence spectroscopies, and cyclic voltammetry. The physical properties of each complex are similar to the parent ClRe(CO)3(2-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)quinoline) complex. However, the electrochemical behavior is distinct from the parent, showing reversible voltammograms and poor CO2 reduction activity. Addition of K+ or Mg2+ as Lewis acids modestly increases catalytic currents, but at large overpotentials. The work presented here is consistent with a mechanism that involves rhenium reduction and deprotonation of imidazole and benzimidazole prior to CO2 reduction electrocatalysis.
