Abstract
Novel geometrically asymmetric biscinnamyl-sulfone compounds (6a-c) with donor-π-conjugated spacer-acceptor functionality were successfully synthesized. This was achieved by coupling cinnamaldehyde precursors with 3,3'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone in dry organic solvents, resulting in high yields. Several spectroscopic techniques were employed to identify the derivatives. The absorption spectra of these compounds exhibited broad bands that spanned up to 120 nm, which can be attributed to their extended conjugation systems. In order to explore the electronic transitions of these materials, Time-Dependent Density-Functional Theory (TD-DFT) with EIFPCM solvation mode was utilized. We computationally investigated the static nonlinear optical (NLO) parameters, including dipole moments (μ), polarizability (α), anisotropic polarizability (Δα), first-order hyperpolarization (β), and second-order hyperpolarization (γ). Although the new structures possess different functional groups, they displayed similar electronic potentials when their molecular electrostatic potentials were plotted. These potentials are crucial in stabilizing the molecules in crystal systems through noncovalent forces such as C-H⋯π stacking and hydrogen bonding. They also provide insights into the electronic assessments and energetics of these individual forces. By estimating the frontier orbitals, we gained an understanding of the intramolecular charge transfer in the compounds. Energy gap values were determined using the orbitals of density of states method and experimentally via the Tauc method. The computational and experimental results were in good agreement. Lastly, we examined the influence of different protic and aprotic solvents on the absorption bands of compound 6b, as an example. This compound showed a significant bathochromic shift of 41 nm upon changing the solvent from acetic acid to dimethyl sulfoxide.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fluorescence quenching is an interesting phenomenon with the potential to be applied across various fields. The mechanism is commonly used across analytical applications for monitoring the concentration of trace substances. Naphthalimide and its family of compounds are commonly used as fluorescent detectors. This work investigated an analytical technique through which naphthalimide-based dyes could be quantified. A commercial A/C leak detector was used as the dye and Cu2+ ions as the quencher. Experiments were also conducted to investigate the effect of temperature on quenching. To study the mechanism of quenching further, density functional theory (DFT) was used. RESULTS The method detection limit obtained in this work is 1.7 × 10-6 mol/L. The results from the quenching experiments demonstrated a pattern which fit a modified Stern-Volmer (SV) model, with an R2 value of 0.9886. From the experiments on the effect of temperature, a dynamic quenching behavior was observed given the emission spectra demonstrated an inverse relationship with temperature. CONCLUSIONS The quenching of the commercial A/C dye by Cu2+ ions can be used to develop a rapid and sensitive detection method for metal ions such as Cu2+, and for future fabrication of chemosensors for Cu2+.

Abstract
Hydrazinobenzoic acid derivatives with isothiocyanate, benzylidene, and acid anhydride core units (1-13) were previously synthesized and fully characterized. Targets 1-13 were investigated for their antioxidant activities using different in vitro assays such as 1,1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) (ABTS), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), and reducing power capability. All derivatives showed antioxidant properties in relation to the standard butylated hydroxylanisole (BHA). Superior antioxidant activities was observed for compounds 3 and 5-9 at a concentration of 20 μg/mL (70-72%) when tested by the DPPH method in comparison to BHA (92%), and compounds 1-10 showed the highest free radical quenching activity (80-85%) when examined by ABTS at 20 μg/mL in relation to BHA (85%). Density function theory (DFT) studies were carried out using the B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level of theory. Several antioxidant descriptors were calculated for targets 1-13 compared with BHA. Targets 1-13 were proposed to exhibit their antioxidant activities via the following three proposed antioxidant mechanisms: single electron transfer (SET), hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), and sequential proton loss electron transfer (SPLET). The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energies and electron levels for 1-13 were also determined.

Abstract
The reaction of bidentate N-S-thione-Schiff base, (E)-benzyl 2-(1-(4-chlorophenyl)-ethylidene)hydrazinecarbodithioate, with Cu(NO3)2·3H2O produced a cis-Cu(II) complex. The molecular structure was confirmed and characterized by CHN-EA, FAB-MS, IR, and UV-Vis analyses. The XRD supported cis-isomer of the bis anionic bidentate N (azomethine) and S (thiol) ligand coordination mode in tetrahedrally distorted square planar, rarely reported in the literature. The results of the XRD-bond lengths were in perfect agreement with the density functional theory (DFT) calculation. DFT-calculated angles around the Cu(II) center displayed slightly less distortion around the metal center from those of XRD. Additionally, the thermal stability of the complex was evaluated via thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). Two-dimensional fingerprint (2D-FP), Hirshfeld surface analysis (HSA), and molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) support the XRD-packing results with the existence of the H⸱⸱⸱Cl and CH⸱⸱⸱π bonds as the main interactions in the crystal lattice of the desired complex.
