Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to analyse the association between body shape index (ABSI) and arterial stiffness in healthy subjects using data from the EVasCu study. In addition, a meta-analysis was performed to compare the association between ABSI and central, peripheral and systemic arterial stiffness in the general population. METHODS The EVasCu study included 390 healthy subjects. ABSI was calculated from waist circumference, body mass index and height, and arterial stiffness was assessed with aortic pulse wave velocity (a-PWv) and cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI). A meta-analysis of previous studies, including data from the EVasCu study, was performed to obtain pooled estimates of correlation coefficients (r) and their respective 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) for the association between ABSI and central, peripheral and systemic arterial stiffness. In addition, pooled OR estimates and their 95% CIs were calculated. RESULTS In the EVasCu study, the correlation coefficient estimate was 0.458 (p < 0.01) for the association of a-PWv and ABSI and 0.408 (p < 0.01) for the association of CAVI and ABSI. In the meta-analysis, the pooled correlation coefficient estimate was 0.22 (95% CIs: 0.16, 0.28) for central arterial stiffness and ABSI, 0.21 (95% CIs: 0.14, 0.28) for peripheral arterial stiffness and ABSI, and 0.28 (95% CI: 0.21, 0.3) for systemic arterial stiffness and ABSI. When pooled ORs were calculated, the pooled OR estimate was 2.12 (95% CIs: 1.68, 2.56) for central arterial stiffness and ABSI, 2.21 (95% CIs: 1.81, 2.60) for peripheral arterial stiffness and ABSI, and 2.99 (95% CIs: 2.14, 3.85) for systemic arterial stiffness and ABSI. CONCLUSION Based on both the results obtained in the EVasCu study and the meta-analysis, there is a positive association between ABSI and arterial stiffness, both in healthy subjects and in participants with comorbidities. For each unit of cm/kg/m²/m increase in ABSI, the risk of arterial stiffness increased by 112% for central arterial stiffness, 121% for peripheral arterial stiffness, and 199% for systemic arterial stiffness. However, further research is needed in this field of knowledge.

Abstract
Background The association of novel anthropometrics and novel atherogenicity indices with mortality remains uncertain. Objective To compare the association of novel anthropometrics and atherogenicity indices with all-cause, cardiovascular (CVD), and non-CVD mortality in Iranian adults. Methods Utilizing data from Isfahan Cohort Study, 5432 participants aged older than 35 years were enrolled. Three anthropometrics indices including a body shape index (ABSI), body roundness index (BRI) and abdominal volume index (AVI), and three atherogenicity indices including atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), Castelli risk index (CRI) and the cholesterol index (CI) were calculated. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to explore the association between indices and mortality. Results After a median follow-up of 11.25 years, the ABSI was independently associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality (HRQ4 vs. Q1 = 1.43, 95 % CI: 1.07, 1.92; P trend = 0.02). A positive, independent association was also observed between CRI-II (HRQ4 vs. Q1 = 1.49, 95 % CI: 0.99, 2.25; P trend = 0.04) and AIP (HRQ4 vs. Q1 = 1.81, 95 % CI: 1.92, 2.27; P trend = 0.01) and CVD mortality. For non-CVD mortality, despite a direct link for ABSI (HRQ4 vs. Q1 = 1.92, 95 % CI: 1.32, 2.80; P trend = 0.001), an inverse association was found for CI (HRQ4 vs. Q1 = 0.68, 95 % CI: 0.49, 0.95; P trend = 0.007). Conclusion Amongst various investigated anthropometric indices, ABSI was directly related to all-cause and non-CVD mortality. However, atherogenicity indices including CRI-II and AIP could predict the incidence risk of CVD mortality among Iranians. Further studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To provide an overview of the predictive value of A Body Shape Index (ABSI) for the risk of cardiovascular events. RECENT FINDINGS ABSI has been reported to have an association with development of cardiovascular diseases, and its usefulness for predicting major cardiovascular events including cardiovascular mortality, nonfatal coronary syndrome and nonfatal stroke has been investigated. The formula for ABSI includes waist circumference, which is not included in the conventional calculation of body mass index (BMI), along with BMI and height. High ABSI is independently associated with a high incidence of cardiovascular events. ABSI with specific cutoff values can be a useful tool for cardiovascular risk stratification by detecting the presence of abdominal obesity and it can be used for evaluation of the risk of cardiovascular events. Nonetheless, other factors such as race, gender, age, and physical, environmental and socioeconomic purviews also need be taken into consideration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As a new obesity-related index, the weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI) appears to be a good predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in East Asian populations. This study aimed to validate the association between WWI and CVD in United States (US) adults and also evaluate its relationships with the prevalence of specific CVDs. METHODS The data were obtained from the 2009-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. WWI was calculated as waist circumference divided by the square root of weight, and CVD was ascertained based on self-reported physician diagnoses. Multivariable logistic regression models and subgroup analyses were performed to evaluate the association between WWI and CVD. RESULTS A total of 21,040 participants were included. There was a positive linear relationship between WWI and the odds of CVD (P = 0.310). After adjusting for all covariates, each unit of increased WWI was associated with 48% increased risk of CVD (odds ratio [OR]: 1.48, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.25-1.74). Moreover, compared with the lowest quintile (< 10.3 cm/√kg), the multivariable-adjusted OR was 3.18 (95% CI: 1.80-5.59) in the highest quintile (≥ 11.8 cm/√kg). Besides, positive associations were also found between WWI and increased prevalence of congestive heart failure (OR: 1.47, 95% CI: 1.11-1.96), coronary heart disease (OR: 1.27, 95% CI: 1.01-1.60), angina (OR: 1.44, 95% CI: 1.06-1.96), heart attack (OR: 1.66, 95% CI: 1.29-2.12), and stroke (OR: 1.32, 95% CI: 1.02-1.70). Subgroup analyses showed that stronger associations between WWI and CVD were detected in participants younger than 50 years of age (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS High levels of WWI were significantly associated with an increased risk of CVD in US adults, particularly in people under 50 years of age. These findings indicate that WWI may be an intervention indicator to reduce the risk of CVD in the general adult population.

Abstract
Phthalates are well-known obesogens, but a few studies have explored their impacts on the childhood fat mass index (FMI), body shape index (ABSI) and body roundness index (BRI). Information from 2950 participants recruited in the Ma'anshan Birth Cohort was analyzed. The relationships between six maternal phthalate metabolites and their mixture and childhood FMI, ABSI and BRI were investigated. FMI, ABSI and BRI in children aged 3.5 y, 4.0 y, 4.5 y, 5.0 y, 5.5 y and 6.0 y were calculated. The latent class trajectory modeling categorized the FMI trajectories into "rapidly increasing FMI" (4.71%) and "stable FMI" (95.29%) groups; ABSI trajectories were categorized as "decreasing ABSI" (32.74%), "stable ABSI" (46.55%), "slowly increasing ABSI" (13.26%), "moderately increasing ABSI" (5.27%) and "rapidly increasing ABSI" (2.18%) groups; BRI trajectories were categorized as "increasing BRI" (2.82%), "stable BRI" (19.85%), and "decreasing BRI" (77.34%) groups. Prenatal MEP exposure was associated with repeated measurements of FMI (β = 0.111, 95% CI = 0.002-0.221), ABSI (β = 0.145, 95% CI = 0.023-0.268) and BRI (β = 0.046, 95% CI = -0.005-0.097). Compared with each stable trajectory group, prenatal MEP (OR = 0.650, 95% CI = 0.502-0.844) and MBP (OR = 0.717, 95% CI = 0.984-1.015) were linked to a decreased risk of "decreasing BRI" in children; there was a negative relationship between MBP and the "decreasing ABSI" group (OR = 0.667, 95% CI = 0.487-0.914), and MEP increased the risks of "slowly increasing ABSI" (OR = 1.668, 95% CI = 1.210-2.299) and "rapidly increasing ABSI" (OR = 2.522, 95% CI = 1.266-5.024) in children. Phthalate mixture during pregnancy showed significant relationships with all anthropometric indicator trajectories, with MEP and MBP always being of the largest importance. In conclusion, this study suggested that prenatal phthalate coexposure increased the childhood probability of being in higher ABSI and BRI trajectory groups. That is, children were more likely to be obese when they were exposed to higher levels of some phthalate metabolites and their mixture. The low-molecular weight phthalates, including MEP and MBP, contributed the greatest weights.
