Abstract
Abstract
A novel series of complexes with the formula [MLCl] [M = Co(II) (1), Ni(II) (2), Cu(II) (3), Zn(II) (4)] arising from Pyridyl ligand, N,N’-bis(1-(2-pyridyl)ethylidene)-2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diamine), ligand, L, was synthesized and investigated by elemental analyses, FT-IR, 1H and 13C NMR, Powder XRD, and thermal analyses. TGA analysis indicated that all complexes degraded in three different steps, while the PXRD examination showed well-defined sharp crystalline peaks for the complexes, indicating significant crystallinity. The antiproliferative activity of the ligand and its complexes were also evaluated in vitro against the HeLa (Human Cervical Cancer Cells) and HCT116 (Colon Cancer Cells) cell lines. The findings suggested complex 4 to be potential anticancer agent against these cell lines. In addition, ligand and its complexes also exhibited considerable emission properties.

Abstract
Tetrazolato-bridged dinuclear platinum(II) complexes ([{cis-Pt(NH3)2}2(μ-OH)(μ-5-R-tetrazolato-N2,N3)]2+; tetrazolato-bridged complexes) show remarkable cytotoxic effects in vitro and antitumor activity in vivo. Here, we examined the structure-activity relationship of a series of fluorine-containing derivatives (R = CFH2, CF2H, or CF3), focusing on their lipophilicity, cellular accumulation, cytotoxicity, interactions with a nucleobase and double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid, and in vivo antitumor efficacy. Fluorination had a little effect on the properties of the derivatives in vitro; however, marked differences in in vitro cytotoxicity and in vivo tumor growth inhibition activity were observed. In BALB/c mice bearing colon-26 tumors, the antitumor efficacies of the derivatives were markedly altered, even by changing the number of fluorine atoms by one. In addition, one derivative, [{cis-Pt(NH3)2}2(μ-OH)(μ-5-difluoromethyltetrazolato-N2,N3)](NO3)2, showed a significantly higher antitumor efficacy compared with oxaliplatin, a current first-line drug and the only platinum-based drug approved for the treatment of colon cancer. Together, the present results indicate that introducing fluorine into tetrazolato-bridged complexes may be useful for modulating in vivo activities.

Abstract
A series of iminopyridine complexes of platinum(II), bearing a flexible diethereal, aryl terminated residue, where the size of aryl group is varied from phenyl to 9-anthracenyl, was synthesized. The new complexes are soluble and stable in DMSO/H2O mixtures. Besides the metal center, aryl groups are available for further interactions with DNA, due to the good side chain flexibility. The new aryl functionalized iminopyridine dichlorido platinum(II) complexes show a significant antiproliferative activity on ovarian carcinoma cells and notably, complex 13 is able to overcome cisplatin resistance. The study of the interaction mode of 13 with DNA highlighted the ability to form a molecular complex characterized by a dual (intercalative and groove binding) geometry. The complex is also able to covalently add to DNA even though interstrand cross-links appear significantly hampered with respect to cisplatin. The interactions with the macromolecule are discussed in view of the observed cell effect.

Abstract
A series of five palladium(ii) pyridyl-imine Schiff base complexes 5a-e containing boronate esters with protected sugar diols derived from d-xylose, l-sorbose and d-mannitol were designed and synthesized starting from pyridyl-imines generated in situ from 3-aminophenyl boronate ester of sugars 3a-e and 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde, followed by the addition of Pd(cod)Cl2 in dichloromethane solvent. All the complexes are remarkably stable orange/yellow crystalline solids and were obtained in good yields. The complexes were fully characterized by FT-IR, multinuclear NMR ((1)H, (13)C and (11)B), UV-visible spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The solid state structures of 3a and 5a were established by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The complexes have been tested for their in vitro anticancer activities against human colon cancer (HT-29) and breast cancer (MDA-MB-231) cell lines. All the complexes have shown moderate to good cytotoxicity in both the cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 4.27 to 34.76 μM. Strikingly, 5a displayed selective anticancer activity against both HT-29 and MDA-MB-231 cells with low IC50 values 6.71 and 8.58 μM respectively. Results also demonstrate that some of these complexes are highly potent against HT-29 cells as compared to the other cancer cell lines. In particular, 1,2:5,6-di-O-isopropylidene-d-mannitol complex 5d showed a two-fold higher toxicity against HT-29 cells in comparison with that of cisplatin. In addition, these complexes are less toxic to model non-tumorigenic human embryonic kidney cells (HEK-293T). Furthermore, the interaction of the complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was investigated using spectroscopy and viscosity measurements. It was found that they intercalate with DNA.
