Abstract
Abstract
A study of the anti-tuberculosis activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis ATTC 27294 and an X-ray structural determination of (E)-2-[2-(arylidene)hydrazinyl]pyrimidine, 1, and (E)-N
1-(arylidene)pyrimidine-2-carbohydazide, 2, derivatives are presented. The effect of the substituents in the aryl moiety on the antituberculosis (anti-TB) activities of 1 and 2 is compared with that of other heteroaryl hydrazonyl and acylhydrazonyl derivatives. The biological activities of 1 do not depend on the coordinating ability of the substituted aryl group: in 2, the most effective aryl group is 5-nitrofuranyl. The structure determinations of (E)-2-((2-(pyrimidin-2-yl)hydrazono)methyl)-phenol, (E)-N′-(2,5-dihydroxybenzylidene)pyrimidine-2-carbohydrazide and of the hydrate of (E)-N′-(2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzylidene)pyrimidine-2-carbohydrazide, and a literature search of related structures in the CCDC data base, allowed an examination of the more important interactions, including the occurrence of X–Y⋯π interactions.

With ethanol as solvent and reactant, a molybdenum (pre)catalyst promotes selective acid-catalysed reactions. Depending on the conditions, the MoVIcomplex is converted to MoVIoxidoalkoxido, MoVoxido-bridged dinuclear, and MoVIoctanuclear complexes.

Abstract
Synthesis and evaluation of three new oxovanadium(IV) complexes, formed by the interaction of vanadyl acetylacetonate and the Schiff bases: 3,4-bis((E)-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)benzoic acid (L(1)), 3,4-bis-((E)-2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylideneamino)benzoic acid (L(2)) and 3,4-bis((E)-2,4-dihydroxybenzylideneamino)benzoic acid (L(3)) in methanol. The complexes have been characterized and studied by IR spectra, UV-Vis spectroscopy and thermogravimetry in order to evaluate their thermal stability and thermal decomposition. According to the results discussed from TG curves, the order of thermal stability for the complexes is VOL(3)>VOL(1)>VOL(2). Their formation constants (Kf) were obtained by UV-Vis spectroscopic titration at 15, 25, 35 and 45 °C in methanol by SQUAD software. The trend of formation constants of the complexes as follows: VOL(3)>VOL(2)>VOL(1).
