Abstract
Synthesis of novel benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid-based chromium metal-organic framework (designated as Cr-BTC MOF) by solvothermal method using water:ethanol:dimethylformamide (1:1:2) as solvent media has been undertaken with an aim to exploit its role as photocatalyst in degradation of some anionic dyes along with sensing potential of some explosives. The MOF has been characterized by Fourier transform infra-red, scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett Teller and powder X-Ray diffraction techniques and has shown high thermal stability, upto 373 °C. The prepared MOF was utilized as photocatalyst in selective degradation of Congo red (CR) dye. The effects of pH, source of radiation, initiator and concentration of catalyst were monitored and the results have shown that catalyst exhibits maximum efficiency of 93.3% in the presence of sunlight in neutral medium. The stability and reusability of the catalyst, after four cycles of reusability, renders it to be a highly efficient photocatalyst in the treatment of wastewater under the effect of sunlight. Photoluminescence-detection of explosives viz. 2,4,6-trinitrophenol and nitromethane, has been carried out, wherein Stern-Volmer equation was used to assess the quenching efficiency evaluated. The results have shown exceptional efficiency and selectivity of Cr-BTC MOF towards detection of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (94%). The reusability has shown the synthesized MOF to display excellent recyclability upto 5 cycles. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) method was investigated to establish their antibacterial efficacy against some Gram-positive and Gram-negative strains. The MOF has showed good efficacy towards Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus, displaying a MIC value of 7.81 µg/mL, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (15.625 µg/mL) similar to the standard antibacterial drug, chloramphenicol, thereby establishing their biological efficacy.

Abstract
Two complexes of 5-phenyl-3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine (PPTA), namely (ethanol-κO)bis(nitrato-κO)[5-phenyl-3-(pyridin-2-yl-κN)-1,2,4-triazine-κN2]copper(II), [Cu(NO3)2(C14H10N4)(C2H6O)] or [Cu(NO3)2(PPTA)(EtOH)] (1), and bis[μ-5-phenyl-3-(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazine]-κ3N1:N2,N3;κ3N2,N3:N1-bis[(nitrato-κO)silver(I)], [Ag2(NO3)2(C14H10N4)2] or [Ag2(NO3)2(μ-PPTA)2] (2), were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray structure analysis of 1 revealed a copper complex with square-pyramdial geometry containing two O-donor nitrate ligands along with an N,N'-donor PPTA ligand and one O-donor ethanol ligand. In the binuclear structure of 2, formed by the bridging of two PPTA ligands, each Ag atom has an AgN3O environment and square-planar geometry. In addition to the four dative interactions, each Ag atom interacts with two O atoms of two nitrate ligands on adjacent complexes to complete a pseudo-octahedral geometry. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the geometry around the Cu and Ag atoms in 1opt and 2opt (opt is optimized) for an isolated molecule is the same as the experimental results. In 1, O-H...O hydrogen bonds form R12(4) motifs. In the crystal network of the complexes, in addition to the hydrogen bonds, there are π-π stacking interactions between the aromatic rings (phenyl, pyridine and triazine) of the ligands on adjacent complexes. The ability of the ligand and complexes 1 and 2 to interact with ten selected biomacromolecules (BRAF kinase, CatB, DNA gyrase, HDAC7, rHA, RNR, TrxR, TS, Top II and B-DNA) was investigated by docking studies. The results show that the studied compounds can interact with proteins better than doxorubicin (except for TrxR and Top II).

Abstract
Abstract
A new 1,3-oxathiolane-based ligand, 2-(1,3-oxathiolan-2-yl)pyridine, was prepared and its coordination to lead(II) was investigated. Experiments revealed a ligand-breaking reaction during the complexation process, which leads to the formation of a 2D-coordination polymer of lead(II), [Pb(μ
3-HME)(μ-OAc)]
n
; H2ME: 2-mercaptoethanol. The compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray analysis revealed a 2D-coordination polymer extending via acetato bridges. The lead(II) center adopts a rare PbO4S3-distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry with a hemidirected arrangement. Upon coordination, the thiol group of the H2ME ligand is deprotonated to coordinate as an anionic ligand. The network extends in sheets in the crystallographic ab plane via Pb–S–Pb and Pb–O–Pb bridges, aided by O–H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

In the double-chain 1D coordination polymer of 1 and the binuclear structure of 2, the Pb atom has a hemidirected-PbN6S2 and a rare holodirected-PbN6O2 environment, respectively, with a distorted cubic geometry. All the coordination modes of dicyanamide ligands within lead complexes were studied using the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) to compare them with the structures of 1 and 2. In addition to hydrogen bonds, the crystal networks are stabilized by π-π stacking interactions between the triazine, furyl and pyridine aromatic rings. The most stable theoretical structures of the title compounds predicted by density functional theory (DFT) calculations were compared with the solid-state results.

Abstract
The pyridine-2,6-carboxylic esters pydicR2 with R = Me or Ph form the unprecedented mononuclear CuII complexes [Cu(pydicR2)Cl3]− in one-pot reactions starting from pyridine-2,6-carboxychloride pydicCl2, CuII chloride, and NEt3 in MeOH or PhOH solution under non-aqueous conditions. The triethylammonium salts (HNEt3)[Cu(pydicR2)Cl3] were isolated. The methyl derivative could be crystallized to allow a XRD structure determination. Both structures were optimized using DFT calculations in various surroundings ranging from gas phase and the non-coordinating solvent CH2Cl2 to the weakly coordinating acetone and well-coordinating solvents acetonitrile (MeCN) or dimethylformamide (DMF), while detailed calculation showed the charge distribution, dipole moments, and HOMO–LUMO gap energies changing upon solvation. According to these calculations, the ion pairs and the anionic CuII complexes were stable, which shows only Cu–Cl bond elongation and weakening of the charge transfer between the anionic complex and the cation as solvents become polar. Synthesis attempts in the presence of water yielded the CuII complexes [Cu(pydic)(OH2)2]n and [Cu(OH2)6][{Cu(pydic)}2(µ-Cl)2], which results from pydicCl2 hydrolysis. Alternatively, the new pydic(IPh)2 (IPh = 2-iodo-phenyl) ester ligand was synthesized and reacted with anhydrous CuCl2, which yields the new binuclear complex [{Cu(pydic(IPh)2)Cl}2(µ-Cl)2]. EPR spectroscopy of the solid compounds reveals typical axial spectra in line with the observed and DFT calculated geometries. Cyclic voltammetry and UV–vis absorption spectroscopy in solution are in line with un-dissociated complex species [Cu(pydicR2)Cl3]−.

Abstract
A cadmium–mercury mixed-metal complex of cis-2-((2-((2-hydroxyethyl)amino)ethyl)amino)cyclohexan-1-ol (HEAC), [Cd(HEAC)2][HgI4] (1), was prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray analysis revealed an ionic structure for 1 in which the cadmium and mercury atoms have CdN4O2 and HgI4 environments, with distorted octahedral and tetrahedral geometries, respectively. The packing of the components in the crystal of 1 is supported by O–H···I hydrogen bonds, and these interactions lead to the formation of an

Anticancer activities of a β-amino alcohol ligand and nanoparticles of its copper(ii) and zinc(ii) complexes evaluated by experimental and theoretical methods. RSC Adv 2018; 8:28810-28824. Abstract
2-(2-(2-Hydroxyethylamino)ethylamino)cyclohexanol (HEAC) and copper and zinc complexes, [Cu(HEAC)Cl]Cl (1), [Cu(HEAC)Br]Br (2), [Zn(HEAC)Cl2] (3), were prepared and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1H NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Also nanoparticles of 1–3 were prepared for anticancer studies by ultrasonic irradiation. Particle size and morphology of the nano particles are investigated by PXRD and SEM, respectively. X-ray analysis revealed that the ionic complexes 1 and 2 are isostructural. In the structure of complexes 1 and 2, the metal atom has a CuN2O2X (X: Cl (1), Br (2)) environment with square-pyramidal geometry, containing the tetradentate N2O2-donor HEAC. The bond length of the axial position in the square-pyramidal geometry of 1 and 2 is elongated. Complex 3 has a ZnN2OCl2 environment with trigonal bipyramidal geometry around the zinc atom in which the HEAC acts as mer-N2O-donor. The ability of HEAC and nano particles 1–3 to interact with the nine biomacromolecules (BRAF kinase, CatB, DNA gyrase, HDAC7, rHA, RNR, TrxR, TS and Top II) are investigated by docking calculations. For examination of the docking results, the in vitro activities of four compounds against the human leukemia cell line K562 were investigated by evaluation of IC50 values and mode of cell death (apoptosis). The thermodynamic stability of the compounds along with the charge distribution pattern were studied by DFT and NBO analysis, respectively. Nano particles of copper and zinc complexes with an amino alcohol ligand were prepared under ultrasonic irradiation and their anticancer activates were investigated along with the docking studies and DFT calculations.![]()

Abstract
Abstract
In this work, the reaction of 2,2′,2″-nitrilotriethanol (NTE) with a 1:1 mixture of CdI2 and HgI2 is investigated. The complex [Cd(NTE)2][Hg2(μ-I)2I4] was synthesized and identified by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of the [HNTE]Cl salt is also presented. In the crystal structure of the complex, the cadmium atom has a CdN2O6 environment in a slightly distorted cube geometry. This geometry is one of the rare cube geometries with a minimum distortion among the Cambridge Structural Database structures for cadmium complexes. The anionic moiety has a binuclear structure with the mercury atoms being in tetrahedral environments. In the network of the complex, in addition to O−H · · · I hydrogen bonds, there are I · · · I interactions which lead to ten-membered rings.

Abstract
Abstract
Three new compounds of zinc(II) and cadmium(II) with the ligand 4,4′-dimethoxy-2,2′-bipyridine (4,4′-dmo-2,2′-bpy), including cis-[Zn(4,4′-dmo-2,2′-bpy)2(SCN)2] (1), cis-[Cd(4,4′-dmo-2,2′-bpy)2(SCN)2] (2), and [Cd3(4,4′-dmo-2,2′-bpy)3(N3)5(OAc)]
n
(3), have been obtained as white single crystals by the branched tube method and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR and 1H, 13C NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. Single-crystal structure analyses of the isostructural complexes 1 and 2 showed distorted octahedral geometry for zinc(II) and cadmium(II) with ZnN6 and CdN6 environments. Complex 3 reveals a rare coordination polymer containing octahedrally coordinated cadmium(II) expanding to chains by two different bridging modes, including Cd‒O‒C‒O‒Cd and Cd‒N‒Cd.
