Gingival-colored Porcelain: A Clinical Report of an Esthetic-prosthetic Paradigm

Traditionally, periodontics has been instrumental in treating hard- and soft-tissue defect. Surgical and regenerative periodontal procedures can reconstruct the three-dimensional architecture of the hard- and soft-tissue defect. However, at times, these invasive procedures leave the patients with an esthetic problem. In such situations, the defects can be treated by the prosthetic approach. A predictable esthetically pleasing and functional outcome without any surgical procedure is being a choice of treatment for many. This article discusses about the treatment for the defect of excessive hard and soft tissue, using porcelain fused to a metal restoration with gingival-colored porcelain for both tooth-supported and implant-supported fixed prosthesis.

Panacea to lost gingival tissue architecture and spacing: Silicone gingival prosthesis

The positive psychological effects of improving patients' smile often contribute to an improved self-image and enhanced self-esteem. Periodontal disease may lead to tooth and tissue loss that can result in esthetic problems. Combined periodontal/prosthodontic treatment for patients with advanced disease is well documented. This case report illustrates a method of treatment for an advanced tissue loss in an esthetic area using a removable silicone gingival prosthesis/mask.

Attachment-retained gingival prosthesis for implant-supported fixed dental prosthesis in the maxilla: a clinical report

The rehabilitation of edentulous maxillae is a complex procedure due to the involvement of esthetic and functional requirements. A trial maxillary denture can be used to identify the need for adequate upper lip support when replacing removable complete dentures by implant-fixed dental prostheses. This clinical report describes the outcome of the rehabilitation of an edentulous atrophic maxilla with unfavorable maxillomandibular relationship and deficient upper lip support. A trial denture was fabricated and used to diagnose the need for a prosthesis capable of restoring the upper lip support. The reduced upper lip support was also confirmed by a lateral cephalogram. The patient was rehabilitated by an implant-fixed dental prosthesis associated with an attachment-retained gingival prosthesis. The case presented shows that when loss of upper lip support is detected and the patient does not wish to undergo further surgical reconstruction procedure, the retention of a gingival prosthesis using a ball attachment is a satisfactory treatment option.

An alternative treatment approach to gingival recession: gingiva-colored partial porcelain veneers: a clinical report

This clinical report describes the treatment of excessive gingival recession involving maxillary right and left central incisors in a 30-year-old woman. The loss of the gingival soft tissue caused an increase in crown length. Gingiva-colored partial porcelain laminate veneers were applied to imitate the lost gingiva and to provide a natural anatomical tooth length. This method may be a minimally invasive alternative treatment method for gingival soft tissue loss, providing esthetic results and patient satisfaction.
