Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have reported the correlation of dysregulated blood cell indices and peripheral inflammatory markers with depression in adults but limited studies have examined this correlation in early adolescents. METHODS This study used data from the Chinese Early Adolescents Cohort Study, which was conducted in Anhui, China. Students' depression symptoms were repeatedly measured using the Chinese version of the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for Children. Students' blood samples were collected in September 2019 and September 2021. The peripheral blood cell counts and inflammatory marker levels were determined using routine blood tests. Multivariable regression models were used to explore the associations between blood cell indices and adolescent depressive symptoms in both the whole sample and the sex-stratified samples. RESULTS The white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil count (NC), platelet (PLT) count, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, and systemic immune inflammation index (SII) were positively correlated with the severity of depressive symptoms during follow-up. The mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean hemoglobin (HGB) volume (MCH), and mean corpuscular HGB concentration (MCHC) exhibited negative temporal correlations with depressive symptoms. Additionally, several sex-specific blood cell markers were correlated with depression. Male adolescents with increased red blood cell (RBC) and female adolescents with decreased HGB levels and upregulated WBC, NC, NLR, and SII levels exhibited severe depressive symptoms at follow-up. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggested the potential usefulness of peripheral blood cell indices in the assessment of depression in early adolescents.

Abstract
Objective Depression is the most commonly observed psychological manifestation experienced by individuals diagnosed with cancer. The purpose of the study was to investigate the association between levels of IL-4, BDNF, neopterin, and depressive symptoms in lymphoma patients receiving consecutive cycles of chemotherapy. Methods Newly diagnosed lymphoma patients scheduled to receive R-CHOP chemotherapy were enrolled. Effects of R-CHOP on circulatory biomarkers and depressive symptoms were assessed at three-time points [baseline assessment 7 days before the first dose of chemotherapy (TP1), interim assessment after the third cycle of chemotherapy (TP2), and follow-up assessment after the 6th cycle of chemotherapy (TP3)]. Results Seventy lymphoma patients, with a mean age of 44.17 ± 13.67 years, were enrolled. Patients receiving R-CHOP were found significantly increased neopterin levels between given time points TP1 vs. TP2, TP1 vs. TP3, and TP2 vs. TP3 (p < 0.001). However, IL-4 and BDNF levels significantly decreased with consecutive cycles of chemotherapy (p < 0.001). On Patient Health Questionnaire assessment (PHQ-9), scores of items like loss of interest, feeling depressed, sleep problems, loss of energy, and appetite problems were found significantly affected with consecutive cycles of chemotherapy (p < 0.001). The study found weak negative correlations between IL-4, BDNF, and neopterin levels and changes in PHQ-9 scores at both TP2 and TP3, suggesting a potential inverse relationship between these markers and depression symptoms. Conclusion In conclusion, the present study suggests a potential link between elevated neopterin levels, decreased IL-4, and BDNF levels, and the presence of depression in lymphoma patients receiving R-CHOP chemotherapy. This study provides valuable insights into understanding the emotional challenges faced by cancer patients, offering information for more personalized interventions and comprehensive support approaches within the oncology setting.

Abstract
Depression is the most common mental disorder worldwide. Both antidepressants and psychotherapy are effective in treating depression, but the response to these treatments is often incomplete. Yoga-based interventions (YBIs) have been advocated by some researchers as a promising form of alternative treatment for depression. Recent research has attempted to identify the biological mechanisms associated with the antidepressant actions of YBIs. In this scoping review, conducted according to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, the PubMed and Scopus databases were searched to retrieve research on biomarkers of response to YBIs in patients with depression. These studies were also critically reviewed to evaluate their methodological quality and any sources of bias. Nineteen studies were included in the review. Based on these studies, there is preliminary evidence that YBIs may be associated with increased serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and reduced serum cortisol and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in patients with depression. However, many of these changes were also observed in the control arms, and the overall quality of the research was low. At present, it cannot be concluded that there are reliable biomarkers of response to YBIs in depression, though there are some potential biological correlates. Further advances in this field will depend critically on improvements in study design, particularly the minimization of sources of bias and the selection of more specific and sensitive biomarkers based on existing evidence from other treatment modalities.

Abstract
Background Crohn's disease (CD) is a non-specific chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract and is a phenotype of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The current study sought to compile the resting-state functional differences in the brain between CD patients and healthy controls. Methods The online databases PubMed, Web of Science Core, and EMBASE were used to find the published neuroimage studies. The search period was from the beginning through December 15, 2023. The predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria allowed for the identification of the studies. The studies were assembled by two impartial reviewers, who also assessed their quality and bias. Results This review comprised 16 resting-state fMRI studies in total. The included studies generally had modest levels of bias. According to the research, emotional processing and pain processing were largely linked to increased or decreased brain activity in patients with CD. The DMN, CEN, and limbic systems may have abnormalities in patients with CD, according to research on brain networks. Several brain regions showed functional changes in the active CD group compared to the inactive CD group and the healthy control group, respectively. The abnormalities in brain areas were linked to changes in mood fluctuations (anxiety, melancholy) in patients with CD. Conclusion Functional neuroimaging helps provide a better understanding of the underlying neuropathological processes in patients with CD. In this review, we summarize as follows: First, these findings indicate alterations in brain function in patients with CD, specifically affecting brain regions associated with pain, emotion, cognition, and visceral sensation; second, disease activity may have an impact on brain functions in patients with CD; and third, psychological factors may be associated with altered brain functions in patients with CD.

Abstract
Subject Major depressive disorder (MDD) negatively affects patients' behaviours and daily lives. Due to the high heterogeneity and complex pathological features of MDD, its diagnosis remains challenging. Evidence suggests that endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) is involved in the pathogenesis of MDD; however, relevant diagnostic markers have not been well studied. This study aimed to screen for ERS genes with potential diagnostic value in MDD. Methods Gene expression data on MDD samples were downloaded from the GEO database, and ERS-related genes were obtained from the GeneCards and MSigDB databases. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in MDD patients and healthy subjects were identified and then integrated with ERS genes. ERS diagnostic model and nomogram were developed based on biomarkers screened using the LASSO method. The diagnostic performance of this model was evaluated. ERS-associated subtypes were identified. CIBERSORT and GSEA were used to explore the differences between the different subtypes. Finally, WGCNA was performed to identify hub genes related to the subtypes. Results A diagnostic model was developed based on seven ERS genes: KCNE1, PDIA4, STAU1, TMED4, MGST1, RCN1, and SHC1. The validation analysis showed that this model had a good diagnostic performance. KCNE1 expression was positively correlated with M0 macrophages and negatively correlated with resting CD4+ memory T cells. Two subtypes (SubA and SubB) were identified, and these two subtypes showed different ER score. The SubB group showed higher immune infiltration than the SubA group. Finally, NCF4, NCF2, CSF3R, and FPR2 were identified as hub genes associated with ERS molecular subtypes. Conclusion Our current study provides novel diagnostic biomarkers for MDD from an ERS perspective, and these findings further facilitate the use of precision medicine in MDD.
