Abstract
Chitosan-based nanofibers with excellent properties are attractive materials for specific industrial applications of contemporary interest. This work aims to fabricate functional nanofibers based on poly(vinyl alcohol)/chitosan (CS) with an antioxidant and model drug molecule, gallic acid (GA), by electrospinning, followed by cross-linking through glutaraldehyde (PVA-CS-GAs). PVA-CS-GAs were electrospun at two different concentrations by the adjustment of the CS feeding ratio. The detailed characteristics of the as-prepared electrospun nanofibers were elucidated by Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), water contact angle (WCA) measurements, thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry (TGA and DSC) analyses. SEM images indicated that the average fiber diameter distribution was in the range of 90-110 nm. The results show that morphology, mean diameter, wettability, and thermal characteristics of the composite nanofibers were affected by the CS feeding ratio. Although the increase in the amount of polar -OH groups with the addition of GA caused an improvement in the hydrophilicity and thermal stability of the electrospun nanofibers, it also caused a decrease in the thermal transition temperatures. Furthermore, antioxidant tests based on DPPH radical scavenging ability and in vitro release studies demonstrated that the cross-linked PVA-CS-GA composite nanofibers have good antioxidant activity and a pH-dependent drug release rate, indicating their potential for implementation in wound healing and drug delivery applications.

Abstract
The adherence of pathogenic microorganisms to surfaces and their association to form antibiotic-resistant biofilms threatens public health and affects several industrial sectors with significant economic losses. For this reason, the medical, pharmaceutical and materials science communities are exploring more effective anti-fouling approaches. This review focuses on the anti-fouling properties, structure-activity relationships and environmental toxicity of quaternary ammonium salts (QAS) and, as a subclass, ionic liquid compounds. Greener alternatives such as QAS-based antimicrobial polymers with biocide release, non-fouling (i.e., PEG, zwitterions), fouling release (i.e., poly(dimethylsiloxanes), fluorocarbon) and contact killing properties are highlighted. We also report on dual-functional polymers and stimuli-responsive materials. Given the economic and environmental impacts of biofilms in submerged surfaces, we emphasize the importance of less explored QAS-based anti-fouling approaches in the marine industry and in developing efficient membranes for water treatment systems.

Abstract
As a novel adsorbent, an opioid silver-morphine-functionalized polypropylene was synthesized through a one-pot reaction at room temperature and successfully used for the simple one-pot photocatalytic degradation catalyst of methyl orange removal from wastewater. UV spectral analysis reveals a special reference to the excitation of surface plasmon resonance as the main characteristic of the polymer-Ag nanocomposite in toluene solution peak at 420 nm in AgPP-mrp catalyst. The 1H NMR spectrum showed no sign of Ag NP peaks revealing small size distribution in the channels of morphine-functionalized polypropylene polymer. The morphology of silver nanoparticle-doped polymer through scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX) reveals PP-mrp with continuous matrix and Ag NPs (0.87 wt%). Furthermore, photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange was investigated on AgPP-mrp catalyst spectrophotometrically under solar irradiation in waste effluent, demonstrating high degradation efficiency. According to experimental findings, silver nanoparticles (AgPP-mrp) achieved high degradation capacities of 139 mg/g equivalent to 97.4% of photodegradation in a little period of time (35 min), as associated with previously stated materials and follow pseudo-second-order kinetic degradation tail of a high regression coefficient (R2 = 0.992). The suggested techniques offer a linear reaction for MO over the pH range of 1.5 to 5 and a degradation temperature of 25 to 60 °C. Central composite design and response surface methodology statistics recommend pH of the reaction medium and time as important variables for methyl orange degradation on AgPP-mrp photocatalytic. AgPP-mrp on the photocatalytic phenomenon based on heterojunction catalytic design producing electron holes (e-), as well as superoxides for the successful degradation of methyl orange.

Influence of substrate temperature parameter on electrospinning process: example of application to the formation of gelatin fibers. Polym Bull (Berl) 2022. Abstract
AbstractThe substrate temperature was investigated to broaden the applicability of controlling the morphology of polymeric fibers produced during the electrospinning process. A laboratory electrospinning setup was designed using a substrate heated in a temperature range of 25 °C to 100 °C. A gelatin polymer was used as an example to obtain beads-free gelatin fibers by fixing the main electrospinning parameters. Based on XRD, FTIR, and DSC techniques, the electrospun gelatin fibers did not show any change in their chemical composition up to 100 °C. Heating the substrate at 50 °C may be the best selection factor to obtain gelatin fibers; the fiber diameters experienced a significant decrease from 680 ± 140 nm to 420 ± 120 nm with increasing substrate temperature from 25 to 50 °C, respectively. They showed stability of the diameter at 380 ± 130 nm and 390 ± 130 nm when increasing substrate temperatures from 75 to 100 °C, respectively, with a significant variation in their diameter distribution. Therefore, this ability to control the electrospinning process using a heated substrate makes it promising for fabricating electrospun beads-free fibers of biopolymers such as gelatin for tissue engineering and drug delivery carriers.
