Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine whether there was a possible predictive relationship between systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and recurrence of deep venous thrombosis (DVT). METHODS A total of 231 patients with DVT who met the study criteria and whose data could be accessed were enrolled to this retrospective single-centered cross-sectional study. Of them 26 patients with DVT recurrence consisted of the study group (Group 1) while remaining 205 cases without recurrence were considered as the control population (Group 2). The patients' basic clinical features and laboratory results from the complete blood count (CBC) test were recorded and compared between groups. Following univariate analyses, a multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the independent predictors of the recurrence of DVT. Additionally, a receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to detect the cut-off values of the predictors with sensitivity and specificity rates. RESULTS There were no significant differences between the groups for basic clinical features, except for diabetes mellitus, pulmonary embolism, and atrial fibrillation. Although the univariate analysis revealed that the median values of NLR, PLR, and SII were significantly higher in the DVT recurrence group, only SII was determined to be a significant and independent predictor of DVT recurrence in the multivariate logistic regression analysis. According to ROC curve analysis, SII of 1685 × 103/mm3 constituted the cut-off value for predicting DVT recurrence with 61.5% sensitivity and 76.6% specificity (AUC = 0.686, p = .001). CONCLUSION The present study demonstrated for the first time in the literature that SII significantly predicted the recurrence of DVT.

Abstract
Objective: We aim to study association between neutrophile to lymphocyte (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte (PLR) ratios and disease activity, and their value to predict bDMARD response. Methods: A set of spondylarthritis (SpA) patients under bDMARD registered in the Reuma.pt registry was studied. Sociodemographic, clinical and laboratorial variables were assessed on bDMARD initiation, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months (M) thereafter. Univariable and multivariable generalized estimation equations models assessed associations with disease activity. The NLR and PLR predictive value was assessed using univariable and multivariable logistic regression models. Results: A total of 170 patients were included. Most were male (54.7%), with a predominantly axial phenotype (84.7%). Significant associations were observed between NLR [B=1.55, 95% confidence interval (CI) = (1.38; 1.74)] and PLR [(B=1.16, 95% CI = (1.09; 1.24)] with ASDAS-CRP (p < 0.001). Both baseline ratios predicted ∆ ASDAS-CRP ≥ 1.1 at 6 months [OR = 2.20, 95% CI = (1.21, 4.00) for NLR; OR = 1.02, 95% CI = (1.01, 1.04) for PLR, p < 0.01)]. PLR was a significant predictor of ∆ ASDAS-CRP ≥ 1.1 in all timepoints [OR (12 M) = 1.02, 95% CI = (1.00, 1.03), p < 0.05; OR (18M) = 1.02, 95% CI = (1.01, 1.03), p < 0.001; OR (24M) = 1.01, 95% CI = (1.01, 1.02), p < 0.01]. Conclusion: NLR and PLR were associated with disease activity during the follow up of these patients. They seem to be significant predictors of therapeutic response to bDMARD in naïve SpA patients.

Abstract
Background Hypertension patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) have a higher risk of cardiovascular complications than blood pressure-matched essential hypertension (EH) patients. The cause may be closely related to inflammation. We explored the correlations between leukocyte-related inflammation parameters and plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) in PA patients and clinical characteristics-matched EH patients. Methods A total of 346 PA and 346 sex, age and 24-h blood pressure-matched EH patients at the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University from January 2020 to June 2021 were enrolled in this study. The differences and correlations of aldosterone and leukocyte parameters between the two groups were analyzed. Results Compared with EH patients, the lymphocyte count was significantly lower (P = 0.004), the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) (P = 0.023) and the monocyte-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) (P = 0.037) were significantly higher in PA patients. Linear regression analysis and multivariate regression analysis identified that lymphocyte count, NLR and MLR were significantly and independently correlated with PAC in PA patients, and the correlations were stronger with increasing levels of aldosterone. However, in EH patients, only NLR maintained an independent correlation with PAC. Conclusion Leukocyte-related inflammation parameters, including lymphocyte count, NLR, and MLR, were significantly and independently correlated with PAC in PA patients. The correlations were stronger with increasing levels of aldosterone. However, the above correlations were not always present in patients with EH matched for clinical characteristics.

Abstract
Hypertension is a chronic disease with high levels of morbidity and disability. Elevated blood pressure can lead to many complications and is the main risk factor for stroke, heart failure and nephropathy. Factors associated with hypertension and inflammatory response differ from those associated with vascular inflammation. The immune system plays a vital role in the pathophysiology of hypertension. Inflammation is particularly relevant in the progression of cardiovascular diseases, which has led to extensive research on inflammatory markers and indicators.

Abstract
The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a marker for systemic inflammation. Since inflammation plays a relevant role in vascular aging, the aim of this study was to investigate whether NLR is associated with blood pressure profiles in older adults. This study was performed within the framework of the SCOPE study including 2461 outpatients aged 75 years and over. Mean blood pressure values, namely systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and pulse pressure (PP) were investigated across tertiles of NLR. Change in blood pressure levels in 2 years of follow-up were compared across categories of baseline NLR. Data of 2397 individuals were used, of which 1854 individuals had hypertension. Mean values of blood pressure did not differ across categories of baseline NLR in individuals without hypertension. Individuals with hypertension with a high-range NLR had lower SBP and PP when compared to those in low-range NLR (mean difference SBP -2.94 mmHg, p = 0.032 and PP -2.55 mmHg, p = 0.030). Mean change in blood pressure in 2 years did only slightly differ in non-clinically relevant ranges, when compared across tertiles of baseline NLR. NLR as a marker of inflammaging was not associated with unfavorable blood pressure profiles in older individuals with or without hypertension.

Abstract
The O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine modification (O-GlcNAcylation) of proteins dynamically regulates protein function, localization, stability, and interactions. This post-translational modification is intimately linked to cardiovascular disease, including hypertension. An increasing number of studies suggest that components of innate and adaptive immunity, active players in the pathophysiology of hypertension, are targets for O-GlcNAcylation. In this review, we highlight the potential roles of O-GlcNAcylation in the immune system and discuss how those immune targets of O-GlcNAcylation may contribute to arterial hypertension.

Abstract
Metabolic syndrome is a syndrome compromised of elevated fasting blood glucose, increased blood pressure, central obesity, decreased high density lipoprotein, and increased triglyceride levels. Because of its growing incidence and prevalence, and the effect that it has on developing other non-communicable disease, the importance gets even more value. Prediction and control of this disease in early stages and in the cheapest way, is a crucial need these days. Due to role of chronic low-grade inflammation in metabolic syndrome, cytokines and inflammatory factors like interleukin-6 and Tumor necrosis factor-a have a critical effect on this phenomenon. Neutrophil to lymphocyte (NLR) ratio is an inflammatory marker that has an unchallenging availability, and has a reasonable price. NLR has a relation with obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension (HTN), blood cholesterol levels. This states that there should be a relation between NLR and metabolic syndrome. NLR as a low-grade inflammation marker indicates a positive relationship with central obesity. Also, studies indicate that diabetes' incidence, its severity, and its control contribute a relation with NLR. Hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, both can be noticed with higher NLRs. In this rapid review we are going to assess the association between metabolic syndrome and NLR.

Abstract
Aim: Hypertension is associated with cardiac structural and functional changes, including left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and LV systolic dysfunction diastolic dysfunction. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a novel inflammatory biomarker associated with cardiovascular diseases. The current study aimed to evaluate NLR in children with newly diagnosed essential hypertension and its relationship between blood pressure and cardiac changes. Methods and Subjects: Sixty-five children with newly diagnosed essential hypertension and 54 healthy children were included. Clinical characteristics, blood cell counts, and biochemical parameters were collected. LVH was assessed by calculation of LV mass index (LVMI), and LV systolic function was evaluated by measuring LV ejection fraction and fractional shortening. LV diastolic function was primarily assessed with E/E' ratio by Doppler and echocardiography. Results: The hypertension children had significantly higher LVMI and E/E' ratio than the controls, whereas there was no difference in LV systolic function between the two groups. The NLR was significantly higher in the hypertension group than the control group. Moreover, NLR was positively correlated with systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) levels in the hypertension group. Additionally, a significantly positive correlation between NLR and E/E' ratio was found in the hypertension group. However, NLR was not related to LVH and LV systolic function indicators in hypertension children. Conclusion: NLR is elevated in hypertension children, and it is associated positively with office blood pressure levels. Moreover, NLR may help assess LV diastolic function in hypertension children.

Abstract
Context Neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are recent prognostic markers associated with inflammation in many diseases such as chronic kidney disease (CKD), malignancies, myocardial infarction. Objective In this study, we investigated the relationship between NLR-PLR and parathyroid hormone (PTH) and vitamin D in patients with high PTH levels. Design The patients with high PTH levels in Nephrology and Endocrinolgy Outpatient clinics were evaluated retrospectively. Subjects and methods The medical records of the patients were examined and clinical data, including demographic details, clinical and laboratory findings, treatment and follow-up data were obtained. NLR and PLR were calculated. Serum creatinine, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, lipid levels, calcium phosphorus product, PTH and vitamin D values were investigated. The relationship between NLR-PLR and laboratory parameters, GFR (MDRD-GFR), PTH and vitamin D were investigated. Results 48 male and 253 female patients were enrolled in this study. The mean age was 57.57±13.28. NLR correlated negatively with albumin, hemoglobin, vitamin D, calcium and cholesterol and it positively correlated with creatinine and PTH. Multiple regression analysis showed that main determinants of NLR were PTH, albumin, LDL-cholesterol, hemoglobin and gender. Conclusions In this study NLR and PLR correlated negatively with hemoglobin and cholesterol. Positive correlation between NLR and creatinine could be explained by increased degrees of inflammation associated with more pronounced degrees of renal dysfunction. The impact of PTH on NLR was independent of GFR. In multiple regression model this suggests that PTH could be a pro-inflammatory parameter independent of the degree of renal dysfunction.

Abstract
BACKGROUND High value of neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a strong independent predictor and biomarker of ongoing vascular inflammation in various cardiovascular disorders. OBJECTIVE The main focus of the study is to investigate the effect of nebivolol on NLR in mild to moderate hypertensive patients in comparison with metoprolol. In addition, BMI, blood pressure, TLC count, blood sugar, and lipid profile were also assayed before and after treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this 12-week prospective double-blinded randomized study, 120 patients with mild to moderate hypertension were randomly divided into two groups to prescribed daily dose of tab nebivolol 5-10 mg and metoprolol 50-100 mg, respectively, for 12 weeks. The data were analyzed using SPSS 16 software. RESULTS A total of 100 patients completed the study. Both drugs lowered blood pressure significantly, nebivolol 20.5/10.5 and metoprolol 22.5/11.2 (p < 0.001) from baseline. Regarding inflammation, nebivolol reduced total leukocyte count (p = 0.005) and neutrophil count (p = 0.003) and increased lymphocyte count (p = 0.004) as compared to metoprolol. Similarly, nebivolol but not metoprolol significantly reduced NLR ratio (p = 0.07). Nebivolol improved lipid profile and blood sugar compared to metoprolol, but values were nonsignificant. CONCLUSION Nebivolol has a strong impact on reducing NLR, a marker of subclinical inflammation in hypertensive patients. Moreover NLR can be used as a disease and drug monitoring tool in these patients.
