Abstract
Objective This pilot study evaluated the impact of using a 3D printed model of the patient's bronchovascular lung anatomy on the mental workload and fatigue of surgeons during full thoracoscopic segmentectomy. Design We performed a feasibility pilot study of a prospective randomized controlled trial with 2 parallel arms. All included patients underwent digital 3D visual reconstruction of their bronchovascular anatomy and were randomized into the following two groups: Digital arm (only a virtual 3D model was available) and Digital + Object arm (both virtual and printed 3D models were available). The primary end-point was the surgeons' mental workload measured using the National Aeronautics and Space Administration-Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) score. Setting Between October 28, 2020 and October 05, 2021, we successively investigated all anatomic segmentectomies performed via thoracoscopy in the Thoracic Department of the Montsouris Mutualiste Institute, except for S6 segmentectomies and S4+5 left bi-segmentectomies. Participants We assessed 102 patients for anatomical segmentectomy. Among the, 40 were randomly assigned, and 34 were deemed analysable, with 17 patients included in each arm. Results Comparison of the two groups, each comprising 17 patients, revealed no statistically significant difference in primary or secondary end-points. The consultation of the visual digital model was significantly less frequent when a 3D printed model was available (6 versus 54 consultations, p = 0.001). Notably, both arms exhibited high NASA-TLX scores, particularly in terms of mental demand, temporal demand, and effort scores. Conclusion In our pilot study, 3D printed models and digital 3D reconstructions for pre-operative planning had an equivalent effect on thoracoscopic anatomic segmentectomy for experienced surgeons. The originality of this study lies in its focus on the impact of 3D printing of bronchovascular anatomy on surgeons, rather than solely on the surgical procedure.

Thoracoscopic Lobectomy versus Segmentectomy in the Treatment of Patients with Early-Stage Lung Cancer. EVIDENCE-BASED COMPLEMENTARY AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE 2022; 2022:4376968. Abstract
Objective To assess the clinical efficacy of thoracoscopic lobectomy and segmentectomy in the treatment of patients with early-stage lung cancer. Methods A total of 70 patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer who were treated in our hospital from April 2018 to May 2020 were recruited and assigned at a ratio of 1 : 1 to receive either segmentectomy (observation group) or lobectomy (control group). Outcome measures included clinical efficacy, surgery-related indicators, pulmonary function indicators (forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1)), postoperative complications, and recurrence and metastasis. Results There was no significant difference in the clinical efficacy between the two groups (P > 0.05). Segmentectomy was associated with a longer operation time and shorter hospital stay compared to lobectomy (P < 0.05). There was no statistical significance in the amount of intraoperative blood loss and the number of lymph nodes dissected (P > 0.05). Segmentectomy resulted in significantly higher FVC and FEV1 levels in patients compared to lobectomy (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications between the two groups (P > 0.05). The two groups of patients were followed up for 12 months after the operation, and there was no recurrence or metastasis in either group. Conclusion The two surgical methods have similar efficacy and safety profiles, but for the treatment of patients with early-stage lung cancer, thoracoscopic segmentectomy is associated with a shorter hospital stay and better protection of the lung function of patients compared to lobectomy.

Abstract
Background Surgical treatment is the first choice for non-small-cell lung cancer. To date, there are only few studies on the changes in laboratory indexes in two types of surgery, namely, thoracoscopic lobectomy and segmental pneumonectomy. Aim To investigate the clinical impact of thoracoscopic lobectomy and segmentectomy in patients with early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 94 patients with early-stage NSCLC in our hospital from October 2017 to October 2019. The patients were divided into two groups. The patients in control and observation groups received thoracoscopic lobectomy and thoracoscopic segmentectomy, respectively. The perioperative indicators, complications, lung function, T cell subsets, tumor markers, follow-up of tumor recurrence rate, and survival rate were compared between two groups. Results The operation time of the observation group was longer, and the chest drainage volume was less at 24-48 h after the operation, and the chest tube indwelling time and postoperative hospital stay were shorter than those of the control group. No significant differences in complication probability were observed between two groups. The levels of FEV1, FVC, and MVV in the two groups were lower than those before the operation at 3 days after surgery, but the FEV1, FVC, and MVV levels in the observation group were higher than those in the control group. The CD3+, CD4+, and CD4+/CD8+ levels in the two groups were lower than those before the operation at 24 h and 72 h after the operation, but CD3+, CD4+, and CD4+/CD8+ levels in the observation group were higher than those of the control group. Conclusion Thoracoscopic lobectomy and segmental resection have similar clinical effects in the treatment of early-stage NSCLC patients, but segmental resection can preserve healthy lung tissue as much as possible, with less trauma, protect lung function, and promote postoperative recovery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study intends to create a series of scientific maps to quantitatively estimate hot spots and emerging trends in segmentectomy versus lobectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) research with bibliometric methods. METHODS Articles published on segmentectomy versus lobectomy for NSCLC were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Extracted information was analyzed quantitatively using bibliometric analysis by CiteSpace to find hot spots and frontiers in this research area. RESULTS A total of 362 scientific articles on segmentectomy versus lobectomy for NSCLC were collected, and the annual publication rate increased over time from 1992 to 2019. The leading country and the leading institution were the United States and University of Pittsburgh, respectively. Furthermore, the most prolific researchers were, namely, James D. Luketich, Rodney J. Landreneau, Matthew J. Schuchert, Morihito Okada, and David O. Wilson. The analysis of keywords pointed out that carcinoma, bronchogenic carcinoma, limited resection, segmental resection, and morbidity are hot spots and lymph node dissection, minimally invasive surgery, impact, epidemiology, and high risk are research frontiers in this field. CONCLUSION Publications related to segmentectomy versus lobectomy for NSCLC have made great achievements based on bibliometric analysis in recent years. However, further research and global collaboration are still required. Finally, we find that segmentectomy for the treatment of NSCLC is receiving much more attention from researchers globally compared with lobectomy in this research area.
