Vibrational spectroscopic analysis of 2-chlorotoluene and 2-bromotoluene: a combined experimental and theoretical study

Synthesis, FT-IR, structural, thermochemical, electronic absorption spectral, and NLO analysis of the novel 10-methoxy-10H-furo[3,2-g]chromeno[2,3-b][1,3]thiazolo[5,4-e]pyridine-2,10(3H)-dione (MFCTP): a DFT/TD-DFT study

Chemical transformation of 4-methoxy-5-oxo-5H-furo[3,2-g]chromene-6-carbonitrile (1) with 1,3-thiazolidine-2,4-dione (2) in boiling ethanol containing piperidine afforded the novel 10-methoxy-10H-furo[3,2-g]chromeno[2,3-b][1,3]thiazole[5,4-e]pyridine-2,10(3H)-dione (3, MFCTP). The chemical structure of the synthesized compound was established via elemental analysis and spectral data. FT-IR spectroscopy was performed in the range of 400-4000 cm^-1 for the vibrational spectral analysis of MFCTP. The GIAO method was employed to calculate the values of ¹H and ¹³C NMR chemical shifts theoretically, which were consistent with the experimental chemical shifts. The molecule (3, MFCTP) has two stable structures, as determined from the potential energy curve. The S1 structure is the most stable conformer of (3, MFCTP) according to the computational results. The density functional theory (DFT) and ab initio HF calculations and different basis set combinations based on the structure optimizations and normal coordinate force field were interpreted with the aid of the molecular structure, fundamental vibrational frequencies, and intensities of the vibrational bands. The potential energy distribution (PED) was determined based on the complete vibrational wavenumber assignments. The calculated spectra of the title compound were in agreement with the observed spectra. The scaled B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) results exhibited better agreement with the experimental values compared to the other method used. The time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) was employed to calculate the energy and oscillator strength and supplement the experimental findings. Also, it was performed and the results interpreted the molecular electrostatic potential, nonlinear optical and thermodynamic properties, and Mulliken and natural charges of the title compound. DFT calculations were performed to study the structure-activity relationship (SAR) and compared with the experimental antimicrobial results for compound (3, MFCTP).

Ultrasound assisted fabrication of a novel optode base on a triazine based Schiff base immobilized on TEOS for copper detection

This work introduces novel selective and sensitive optical sensor based on a nano sized triazine based Schiff base (H₂L) immbolized on a transparent glass substrate through the sol-gel process to detection of copper (II) ions in aqueous solutions. This sensor can determine the copper (II) in the range of 8.54 × 10^-8-1.0 × 10^-5 mol L^-1 with a low detection limit of 1.53 × 10^-8 mol L^-1. The optimized geometry of H₂L and its copper complex was obtained based on DFT/B3LYP levels of theory with B3LYP/6-311 + G(d,p) and LANL2DZ/6-311 + G(d,p) basis sets respectively. The calculated electronic properties of them including the molecular orbital, Mulliken population analysis, contour of electrostatic potential, and molecular electrostatic potential map confirmed the behavior of the sensor. Some advantage of the fabricated sensor such as high selectivity, sensitivity, short response time, easy production, fast regeneration, low cost, being portable and user friendly can make it a good choice to detection of Cu(II) ion in various application. The suggested sensor was revealed excellent sensitivity in the natural samples that confirmed by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass (ICP) spectrometry method.

A novel high performance nano chemosensor for copper (II) ion based on an ultrasound-assisted synthesized diphenylamine-based Schiff base: Design, fabrication and density functional theory calculations

A novel high selective colorimetric chemosensor was introduced based on a nano diphenyl-based Schiff base (H₂L), 2,2'-((1E,1'E)-(((hexylazanediyl)bis(4,1-phenylene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(azanylylidene))bis(4-methylphenol) that synthesized using sonochemical method. H₂L was characterized by FT-IR, MS, TGA, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR, SEM and elemental analysis techniques, then fabricated as the portable strips for sensing copper (II) ions in aqueous media. The binding interaction between H₂L and various metal ions was investigated by UV-Vis spectroscopic that showed favorable coordination toward Cu²⁺ ion. H₂L exhibited binding-induced color changes from yellow to pink and practically no interference in the presence of other metal ions, i.e., Cr²⁺, Mn²⁺, Fe²⁺, Co²⁺, Ni²⁺, Zn²⁺, Cd²⁺, Hg²⁺, Pb²⁺, Mg²⁺ and Ca²⁺. The chemsensor showd the color change from yellow to pink in presence of copper (II) ion in aqueous media due to binging of H₂L and Cu (II). This sensor can determine the copper (II) at in the rang of 7.5 × 10^-8-1.8 × 10^-5 mol L^-1 with a correlation equation: Absorbance = 0.0450[Cu²⁺] × 10^-6 + 0.71 and R² = 0.975 and low detection limit of 1.89 × 10^-8 mol L^-1. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were carried out at the B3LYP levels of theory with B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) and LANL2DZ/6-311+G(d,p) basis sets for chemosensor and its copper complex respectively. The optimized geometry, harmonic vibrational frequencies, ¹H NMR and ¹³C NMR chemical, Molecular orbital (M.O.), Mulliken population analysis (MPA), contour of Electrostatic Potential (ESP) and Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) map of H₂L were calculated which show good agreement with behavior of sensor for detection of Cu²⁺ ion.

Conformational, electronic, and spectroscopic characterization of isophthalic acid (monomer and dimer structures) experimentally and by DFT

Isophthalic acid (C6H4(CO2H)2) is a noteworthy organic compound widely used in coating and synthesis of resins and the production of commercially important polymers such as drink plastic bottles. The effects of isophthalic acid (IPA) on human health, toxicology, and biodegradability are the main focus of many researchers. Because structural and spectroscopic investigation of molecules provides a deep understanding of interactional behaviors of compounds, this study stands for exploring those features. Therefore, the spectroscopic, structural, electronic, and thermodynamical properties of IPA were thoroughly studied in this work experimentally using UV-Vis, (1)H and (13)C NMR, FT-IR, FT-Raman and theoretically via DFT and TD-DFT calculations. The UV-Vis absorption spectrum in water was taken in the region 200-400nm. The NMR chemical shifts ((1)H and (13)C) were recorded in DMSO solution. The infrared and Raman spectra of the solid IPA were recorded in the range of 4000-400cm(-1) and 3500-50cm(-1), respectively. DFT and TD-DFT calculations were performed at the level of B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) in determination of geometrical structure, electronic structure analysis and normal mode. The (13)C and (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra were estimated by using the gauge-invariant atomic orbital (GIAO) method. The scaled quantum mechanics (SQM) method was used to determine the total energy distribution (TED) to assign the vibrational modes accurately. Weak interactions such as hydrogen bonding and Van der Walls were analyzed via reduced density gradient (RDG) analysis in monomeric and dimeric forms. Furthermore, the excitation energies, density of state (DOS) diagram, thermodynamical properties, molecular electro-static potential (MEP), and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties were obtained.

The spectroscopic (FT-IR, FT-Raman, dispersive Raman and NMR) study of ethyl-6-chloronicotinate molecule by combined density functional theory

In this study, ethyl-6-chloronicotinate (E-6-ClN) molecule is recorded in the region 4000-400 cm(-1) and 3500-100 cm(-1) (FT-IR, FT-Raman and dispersive Raman, respectively) in the solid phase. ((1))H and ((13))C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra are recorded in DMSO solution. The structural and spectroscopic data of the molecule are obtained for two possible isomers (S1 and S2) from DFT (B3LYP) with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set calculations. The geometry of the molecule is fully optimized, vibrational spectra are calculated and fundamental vibrations are assigned on the basis of the potential energy distribution (PED) of the vibrational modes. ((1))H and ((13))C NMR chemical shifts are calculated by using the gauge-invariant atomic orbital (GIAO) method. The electronic properties, such as excitation energies, oscillator strengths, wavelengths, HOMO and LUMO energies, are performed by time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). Total and partial density of state and overlap population density of state diagrams analysis are presented for E-6-ClN molecule. Furthermore, frontier molecular orbitals (FMO), molecular electrostatic potential, and thermodynamic features are performed. In addition to these, reduced density gradient of the molecule is performed and discussed. As a conclusion, the calculated results are compared with the experimental spectra of the title compound. The results of the calculations are applied to simulate the vibrational spectra of the molecule, which show excellent agreement with the observed ones. The theoretical and tentative results will give us a detailed description of the structural and physicochemical properties of the molecule. Natural bond orbital analysis is done to have more information stability of the molecule arising from charge delocalization, and to reveal the information regarding charge transfer within the molecules.

Conformational analysis, spectroscopic study (FT-IR, FT-Raman, UV, 1H and 13C NMR), molecular orbital energy and NLO properties of 5-iodosalicylic acid

In this study, 5-iodosalicylic acid (5-ISA, C7H5IO3) is structurally characterized by FT-IR, FT-Raman, NMR and UV spectroscopies. There are eight conformers, Cn, n=1-8 for this molecule therefore the molecular geometry for these eight conformers in the ground state are calculated by using the ab-initio density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP method approach with the aug-cc-pVDZ-PP basis set for iodine and the aug-cc-pVDZ basis set for the other elements. The computational results identified that the most stable conformer of 5-ISA is the C1 form. The vibrational spectra are calculated DFT method invoking the same basis sets and fundamental vibrations are assigned on the basis of the total energy distribution (TED) of the vibrational modes, calculated with scaled quantum mechanics (SQM) method with PQS program. Total density of state (TDOS) and partial density of state (PDOS) and also overlap population density of state (COOP or OPDOS) diagrams analysis for C1 conformer were calculated using the same method. The energy and oscillator strength are calculated by time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) results complement with the experimental findings. Besides, charge transfer occurring in the molecule between HOMO and LUMO energies, frontier energy gap, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) are calculated and presented. The NMR chemical shifts ((1)H and (13)C) spectra are recorded and calculated using the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method. Mulliken atomic charges of the title molecule are also calculated, interpreted and compared with salicylic acid. The optimized bond lengths, bond angles and calculated NMR and UV, vibrational wavenumbers showed the best agreement with the experimental results.

Quantum chemical computations, vibrational spectroscopic studies, NLO and NBO/NLMO analysis of o-chlorobenzohydrazide

The molecular vibrations of o-chlorobenzohydrazide (OCBH) have been investigated in polycrystalline sample, at room temperature, by recording Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and FT-Raman spectroscopies. The complete vibrational assignment and analysis of the fundamental modes was carried out using the experimental data and quantum chemical studies. The observed vibrational data were compared with the wavenumbers derived theoretically for the optimized geometry of the compound from the HF and DFT/B3LYP calculations employing 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. The (1)H and (13)C NMR chemical shifts have been simulated. Thermodynamic properties have been calculated at different temperatures. HOMO-LUMO energy gap has been calculated. The intramolecular contacts have been interpreted using Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) and Natural Localized Molecular Orbital (NLMO) analysis.

Vibrational frequency analysis, FT-IR, FT-Raman, ab initio, HF and DFT studies, NBO, HOMO-LUMO and electronic structure calculations on pycolinaldehyde oxime

In this work, the vibrational spectral analysis is carried out by using Raman and infrared spectroscopy in the range 100-4000 cm(-1)and 50-4000 cm(-1), respectively, for pycolinaldehyde oxime (PAO) (C6H6N2O) molecule. The vibrational frequencies have been calculated and scaled values are compared with experimental FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra. The structure optimizations and normal coordinate force field calculations are based on HF and B3LYP methods with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. The results of the calculation shows excellent agreement between experimental and calculated frequencies in B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) basis set. The optimized geometric parameters are compared with experimental values of PAO. The non linear optical properties, NBO analysis, thermodynamics properties and mulliken charges of the title molecule are also calculated and interpreted. A study on the electronic properties, such as HOMO and LUMO energies, are performed by time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) approach. Besides, frontier molecular orbitals (FMO), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) are performed. The effects due to the substitutions of CH=NOH ring are investigated. The (1)H and (13)C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts of the molecule are calculated by the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method and compared with experimental results.

DFT analysis of P-nitrobenzotrifluoride--a combined study of experimental (FT-IR and FT-Raman) and theoretical calculations

In this, a combined experimental and theoretical study on molecular structure and vibrational analysis of P-nitrobenzotrifluoride (PNBTF) is reported. The Fourier transform infrared and FT-Raman was recorded in the solid phase. The molecular geometry and vibrational frequencies of PNBTF in the ground state have been calculated by using density functional method (B3LYP) with 6-311++G(d,p) as basis set. Comparison of the observed fundamental vibrational frequencies with calculated results by density functional methods indicates that B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) is superior to other methods for molecular vibrational problems. The bioactivity of the compound is analyzed by the HOMO-LUMO analysis. The reactivity sites are identified by mapping of electron density into electrostatic potential surface (MEP). Besides, (13)C and (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts are calculated by using the gauge-invariant atomic orbital (GIAO) method. Furthermore, the compound can be used as a good nonlinear optical material due to the higher value of first hyperpolarizability. Solventation effect of NMR spectra by CPCM model of P-nitrobenzotrifluoride has been analyzed.

The geometry of the molecule was fully optimized, vibrational spectra were calculated and fundamental vibrations were assigned on the basis of the total energy distribution (TED) of the vibrational modes, calculated with scaled quantum mechanics (SQM) method and PQS program. Spectral Characterization and Intracellular Detection of Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS)-Encoded Plasmonic Gold Nanostars

Plasmonic gold nanostars offer a new platform for Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS). However, due to the presence of organic surfactant on the nanoparticles, SERS characterization and application of nanostar ensembles in solution have been challenging. Here we applied our newly developed surfactant-free nanostars for SERS characterization and application. The SERS enhancement factors (EF) of silver spheres, gold spheres and nanostars of similar sizes and concentration were compared. Under 785 nm excitation, nanostars and silver spheres have similar EF, and both are much stronger than gold spheres. Having plasmon matching the incident energy and multiple "hot spots" on the branches bring forth strong SERS response without the need to aggregate. Intracellular detection of silica-coated SERS-encoded nanostars was also demonstrated in breast cancer cells. The non-aggregated field enhancement makes the gold nanostar ensemble a promising agent for SERS bioapplications.

The influences due to the substitution of halogen bond and methyl group were investigated. The results of the calculations are applied to simulate the vibrational spectra of the title compound, which show excellent agreement with observed spectra. The absorption energy and oscillator strength are calculated by time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). Besides, frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP), and thermodynamic properties were performed. Mulliken charges of the title molecule were also calculated and interpreted. The dipole moment, linear polarizability and first hyperpolarizability values were also computed.

Vibrational spectroscopic studies, NLO, HOMO-LUMO and electronic structure calculations of α,α,α-trichlorotoluene using HF and DFT

FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of α,α,α-trichlorotoluene have been recorded and analyzed. The geometry, fundamental vibrational frequencies are interpreted with the aid of structure optimizations and normal coordinate force field calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) method and a comparative study between HF level and various basis sets combination. The fundamental vibrational wavenumbers as well as their intensities were calculated and a good agreement between observed and scaled calculated wavenumbers has been achieved. The complete vibrational assignments of wavenumbers are made on the basis of potential energy distribution (PED). The effects due to the substitutions of methyl group and halogen were investigated. The absorption energy and oscillator strength are calculated by time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). The electric dipole moment, polarizability and the first hyperpolarizability values of the α,α,α-trichlorotoluene have been calculated. (1)H NMR chemical shifts were calculated by using the gauge independent atomic orbital (GIAO) method with HF and B3LYP methods with 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. Moreover, molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) and thermodynamic properties were performed. Mulliken and natural charges of the title molecule were also calculated and interpreted.

Density functional theory study on characterization of 3-chloro-1,2-benzisothiazole

The FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 3-chloro-1,2-benzisothiazole (CBT) have been recorded and analyzed. Theoretical information on the optimized geometry, harmonic vibrational frequencies, infrared and Raman intensities were obtained by means of density functional theory (DFT) gradient calculations, using 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. Mulliken population analysis shows charge distribution on the molecule. Thermodynamic properties like entropy, heat capacity, zero point energy have been calculated for the molecule. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies show the charge transfer occurs within the molecule. Stability of the molecule has been analyzed using Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) and Natural Localized Molecular Orbital (NLMO) analysis. The results of the calculations were applied to simulated spectra of the title compound, which show the excellent agreement with the observed spectra.

Density functional method (DFT) has been used to calculate the optimized geometrical parameters, atomic charges, vibrational wavenumbers and intensity of the vibrational bands. The vibrational frequencies have been calculated and scaled values are compared with experimental FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra. A study on the electronic properties, such as excitation energies and wavelengths, were performed by time-dependent DFT (TD-DFT) approach. HOMO and LUMO energies are calculated that these energies show charge transfer occurs within the molecule.
