Spectroscopic (FT-IR, FT-Raman), first order hyperpolarizability, NBO analysis, HOMO and LUMO analysis of 2,4-bis(2-methoxyphenyl)-1-phenylanthracene-9,10-dione by ab initio HF and density functional methods

Fused ring effect on optical nonlinearity and structure property relationship of anthracenyl chalcone based push-pull chromophores

The Ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectra indicate that anthracenyl chalcones (ACs) have high maximum wavelengths and good transparency windows for optical applications and are suitable for optoelectronic applications owing to their HOMO–LUMO energy gaps (2.93 and 2.76 eV). Different donor substituents on the AC affect their dipole moments and nonlinear optical (NLO) responses. The positive, negative, and neutral electrostatic potential regions of the molecules were identified using molecular electrostatic potential (MEP). The stability of the molecule on account of hyperconjugative interactions and accompanying charge delocalization was analyzed using natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. Open and closed aperture Z-scans were performed using a continuous-wave frequency-doubled diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser to measure the nonlinear absorption and nonlinear refractive index coefficients, respectively. The valley-to-peak profile of AC indicated a negative nonlinear refractive index coefficient. The obtained single crystals possess reverse saturation absorption due to excited-state absorption. The structural and nonlinear optical properties of the molecules have been discussed, along with the role of anthracene substitution for enhancing the nonlinear optical properties. The calculated third-order susceptibility value was 1.10 x10^-4 esu at an intensity of 4.1 kW/cm², higher than the reported values for related chalcone derivatives. The NLO response for both ACs offers excellent potential in optical switching and limiting applications.

Quantum chemical study of a derivative of 3-substituted dithiocarbamic flavanone

The aim of this work is to characterize a quite novel 3-dithiocarbamic flavonoid by vibrational spectroscopy in conjunction with Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. Quantum mechanics calculations of energies, geometries and vibrational wavenumbers in the ground state were carried out by using hybrid functional B3LYP with 6-311G(d,p) as basis set. The results indicate a remarkable agreement between the calculated molecular geometries, as well as vibrational frequencies, and the corresponding experimental data. In addition, a complete assignment of all the absorption bands present in the vibrational spectrum has been performed. In order to assess its chemical potential, quantum molecular descriptors characterizing the interactions between the 3-dithiocarbamic flavonoid and its biological receptors have been computed. The frontier molecular orbitals and the HOMO-LUMO energy gap have been used in order to explain the way in which the new molecule can interact with other species and to characterize its molecular chemical stability/reactivity. The molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) map, computed in order to identify the sites of the studied flavonoid that are most likely to interact with electrophilic and nucleophilic species, is discussed.

Molecular conformational analysis, vibrational spectra, NBO, NLO, HOMO-LUMO and molecular docking studies of ethyl 3-(E)-(anthracen-9-yl)prop-2-enoate based on density functional theory calculations

The vibrational wavenumbers were calculated using DFT quantum chemical calculations. The data obtained from the wavenumber calculations were used to assign vibrational bands obtained experimentally. The geometrical parameters are in agreement with XRD data. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The HOMO and LUMO analysis were used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule and quantum chemical parameters related to the title compound. From the MEP analysis, it is clear that the negative electrostatic potential regions are mainly localized over the carbonyl groups and anthracene ring and are possible sites for electrophilic attack and the positive regions are localized at all the hydrogen atoms as possible sites for nucleophilic attack. NLO and NMR studies are also reported. Molecular docking studies suggest that the title compound might exhibit inhibitory activity against IDE and may act as an insulysin inhibitor. Conformational analysis is also reported.

The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of Methyl N-({[2-(2-methoxyacetamido)-4-(phenylsulfanyl) phenyl]amino} [(methoxycarbonyl)imino]methyl)carbamate have been investigated using HF and DFT levels of calculations. The geometrical parameters are in agreement with XRD data. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The HOMO and LUMO analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. Molecular electrostatic potential study was also performed. The first and second hyperpolarizability was calculated in order to find its role in nonlinear optics. Molecular docking studies are also reported. Prediction of Activity Spectra analysis of the title compound predicts anthelmintic and antiparasitic activity as the most probable activity with Pa (probability to be active) value of 0.808 and 0.797, respectively. Molecular docking studies show that both the phenyl groups and the carbonyl oxygens of the molecule are crucial for bonding and these results draw us to the conclusion that the compound might exhibit pteridine reductase inhibitory activity.

FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of bis[(E)-anthranyl-9-acrylic]anhydride were recorded and analyzed. The conformational behavior is also investigated. The vibrational wave numbers were calculated using density functional theory (DFT) quantum chemical calculations. The data obtained from wave number calculations are used to assign vibrational bands obtained in Infrared and Raman spectra. Potential energy distribution was done using GAR2PED program. The geometrical parameters are compared with related structures. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using Natural Bonding Orbital (NBO) analysis. The Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital (HOMO) and Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital (LUMO) analysis are used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. Molecular Electrostatic Potential (MEP) was performed by the DFT method. The calculated first hyperpolarizability of the title compound is comparable with the reported values of similar derivatives and is 4.23 times that of the standard nonlinear optical (NLO) material urea and the title compound and its derivatives are an attractive object for future studies of nonlinear optical properties. To evaluate the in silico antitumor activity of the title compound molecular docking studies were carried out against protein Bcl-xL. The (1)H-NMR spectrum is also reported.

The calculated hyperpolarizability of the title compound is 77.53 times that of the standard NLO material urea and the title compound and its derivatives are attractive object for future studies of nonlinear optical properties. Molecular docking results suggest that the compound might exhibit inhibitory activity against GPb.

Vibrational spectroscopic and molecular docking study of 4-Methylphenylquinoline-2-carboxylate

FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 4-Methylphenylquinoline-2-carboxylate were recorded and analyzed. The structure of the molecule has been optimized and structural characteristics have been determined by density functional theory. The geometrical parameters (DFT) are in agreement with the XRD results. HOMO and LUMO and other chemical properties are reported. Nonlinear optical properties are also reported. A detailed molecular picture of the title compound and its interactions were obtained from NBO analysis. The negative (red and yellow) regions of the MEP are related to electrophilic reactivity and the positive (blue) regions to nucleophilic reactivity, as shown in the MEP plot and the carbonyl group and the phenyl rings are observed as electrophilic. PASS analysis predicts that the 4-Methylphenylquinoline-2-carboxylate might exhibit anti-diabetic activity. Molecular docking results suggest that the compound might exhibit inhibitory activity against GPb.

Spectroscopic investigation (FT-IR and FT-Raman), vibrational assignments, HOMO-LUMO, NBO, MEP analysis and molecular docking study of 2-[(4-chlorobenzyl)sulfanyl]-4-(2-methylpropyl)-6-(phenylsulfanyl)-pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile, a potential chemotherapeutic agent

Vibrational spectral analysis of 2-[(4-chlorobenzyl)sulfanyl]-4-(2-methylpropyl)-6-(phenylsulfanyl)-pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile was carried out using FT-IR and FT-Raman spectroscopic techniques. The equilibrium geometry and vibrational wave numbers have been computed using density functional B3LYP method with 6-311++G(d,p)(5D,7F) as basis set. Stability of the molecule arising from hyper conjugative interactions, charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The nonlinear optical behavior of the title compound is also theoretically predicted. From the MEP, it is evident that the negative charge covers the C≡N group and the positive region is over the phenyl and the pyrimidine rings. From the potential energy scan it is clear that the lone pairs of the sulfur atom prefer to point away from the pyrimidine ring and the C≡N group resulting with two possible minimum conformations at the N4C8S1C25 angle equal nearly 0° or 150°. Molecular docking results suggest that the compound might exhibit inhibitory activity against GPb and may act as potential anti-diabetic compound.

The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of 3-(4-fluorophenyl)-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-1-carbaldehyde have been investigated experimentally and theoretically. The title compound was optimized using at HF and DFT levels of calculations. The B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) (5D,7F) results and in agreement with experimental infrared bands. The normal modes are assigned using potential energy distribution. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using natural bonding orbital analysis. The frontier molecular orbital analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. From molecular electrostatic potential map, it is evident that the negative electrostatic potential regions are mainly localized over the carbonyl group and mono substituted phenyl ring and are possible sites for electrophilic attack and, positive regions are localized around all para substituted phenyl and pyrazole ring, indicating possible sites for nucleophilic attack. First hyperpolarizability is calculated in order to find its role in nonlinear optics. The geometrical parameters are in agreement with experimental data. From the molecular docking studies, it is evident that the fluorine atom attached to phenyl ring and the carbonyl group attached to pyrazole ring are crucial for binding and the results draw us to the conclusion that the compound might exhibit phosphodiesterase inhibitory activity.

The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of ethyl-6-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-2-oxocyclohex-3-ene-1-carboxylate have been investigated experimentally and theoretically using Gaussian09 software. The title compound was optimized using the HF and DFT levels of theory. The geometrical parameters are in agreement with the XRD data. The stability of the molecule has been analyzed by NBO analysis. The HOMO and LUMO analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. Molecular electrostatic potential was performed by the DFT method. As can be seen from the MEP map of the title compound, regions having the negative potential are over the electro negative atoms, the region having the positive potential are over the phenyl rings and the remaining species are surrounded by zero potential. First hyperpolarizability is calculated in order to find its role in non linear optics. The title compound binds at the active sites of both CypD and β-secretase and the molecular docking results draw the conclusion that the compound might exhibit β-secretase inhibitory activity which could be utilized for development of new anti-alzheimeric drugs with mild CypD inhibitory activity.

From the MEP it is evident that the negative charge covers the carbonyl group and the positive region is over the remaining groups. The more electronegativity in the carbonyl group makes it the most reactive part in the molecule. First hyperpolarizability is calculated in order to find its role in nonlinear optics. From the molecular docking studies, it is evident that the fluorine atom attached to benzene ring and ethanone attached to the pyrazoline ring are crucial for binding and the compound might exhibit inhibitory activity against TPII and may act as anti-neoplastic agent.

First hyperpolarizability is calculated in order to find its role in nonlinear optics. Molecular docking studies suggest that the compound might exhibit inhibitory activity against TPII and may act as anti-neoplastic agent.

(2E)-1-(2,4-Dichlorophenyl)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one is synthesized by using 2,4-dichloroacetophenone and 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde in ethanol. The structure of the compound was confirmed by IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. FT-IR spectrum of (2E)-1-(2,4-dichloro-phenyl)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one was recorded and analyzed. The crystal structure is also described. The vibrational wavenumbers were computed using HF and DFT methods and are assigned with the help of potential energy distribution method. The first hyperpolarizability and infrared intensities are also reported. The geometrical parameters of the title compound obtained from XRD studies are in agreement with the calculated (DFT) values. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The HOMO and LUMO analysis are used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. MEP was performed by the DFT method. From the MEP map of the title molecule, negative region is mainly localized over the electronegative oxygen atoms, in the carbonyl group and the oxygen atom O4 of the methoxy group and the maximum positive region is localized on the phenyl rings.

Vibrational spectroscopic studies and molecular docking of 10,10-Dimethylanthrone

FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 10,10-Dimethylanthrone were recorded and analyzed. The vibrational wavenumbers were computed using DFT quantum chemical calculations. The data obtained from wavenumber calculations are used to assign vibrational bands obtained experimentally. In its most stable form, the title compound maintains C2v symmetry as determined by XRD results, where both methyl groups are staggered with respect to the corresponding C23-C24 and C23-C28 bonds. The geometrical parameters (B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p)(5D,7F)) of the title compound are in agreement with the XRD results. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies allow the calculations of atomic and molecular properties and they also showed that charge transfer occurs in the molecule. A detailed molecular picture of the title compound and its interactions were obtained from NBO analysis. As seen from the MEP map, negative potential regions are localized over the carbonyl group and are possible sites for electrophilic attack. The title compound, 10,10-Dimethylanthrone forms a stable complex with human topoisomerase-II as is evident from the ligand-receptor interactions and show appreciable antineoplastic activity.

Synthesis, structural and vibrational investigation on 2-phenyl-N-(pyrazin-2-yl)acetamide combining XRD diffraction, FT-IR and NMR spectroscopies with DFT calculations

The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of 2-phenyl-N-(pyrazin-2-yl)acetamide have been investigated experimentally and theoretically using Gaussian09 software package. The title compound was optimized by using the HF/6-31G(6D,7F) and B3LYP/6-31G(6D,7F) calculations. The geometrical parameters are in agreement with the XRD data. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. Gauge-including atomic orbital (1)H-NMR chemical shifts calculations were carried out and compared with experimental data. The HOMO and LUMO analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. Molecular electrostatic potential was performed by the DFT method. First hyperpolarizability is calculated in order to find its role in non linear optics. From the XRD data, in the crystal, molecules are held together by strong C-H⋯O and N-H⋯O intermolecular interactions.

FT-IR, molecular structure, first order hyperpolarizability, NBO analysis, HOMO and LUMO and MEP analysis of 1-(10H-phenothiazin-2-yl)ethanone by HF and density functional methods

FT-IR spectrum of 1-(10H-phenothiazin-2-yl)ethanone was recorded and analyzed. The equilibrium geometry, bonding features and harmonic vibrational wavenumbers were investigated with the help of HF and DFT methods. The normal modes are assigned with the help of potential energy distribution analysis. The observed vibrational wavenumbers were compared with the calculated results. The geometrical parameters of the title compound obtained from XRD studies are in agreement with the calculated (DFT) values. The first hyperpolarizability value is also reported. Natural bond orbital analysis confirms the presence of intra-molecular charge transfer and hydrogen bonding interaction. The HOMO-LUMO gap explains the charge transfer interaction taking place within the molecule. The N-H stretching frequency is red shifted in the IR spectrum with a strong intensity from the computed frequency, which indicates weakening of the N-H bond resulting in proton transfer to the neighboring units. From the MEP analysis it is evident that the negative charge covers the carbonyl and benzene and the positive region is over the NH group.

FT-IR spectrum of 4-[(3-acetylphenyl)amino]-2-methylidene-4-oxobutanoic acid was recorded and analyzed. The crystal structure is also described. The vibrational wavenumbers were computed using HF and DFT methods are assigned with the help of potential energy distribution analysis. The NH stretching frequency is red shifted in the IR spectrum with a strong intensity from the computed frequency, which indicates the weakening of the NH bond resulting in proton transfer to the neighboring oxygen atom. The first hyperpolarizability and infrared intensities are also reported. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The HOMO and LUMO analysis are used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. Molecular electrostatic potential map was performed by the DFT method. The geometrical parameters of the title compound obtained from XRD studies are in agreement with the calculated (DFT) values.

The structure of the compound was confirmed by IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. FT-IR spectrum of (E)-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)prop-2-en-1-one was recorded and analyzed. The crystal structure is also described. The vibrational wavenumbers were calculated using HF and DFT methods and are assigned with the help of potential energy distribution method. The geometrical parameters of the title compound obtained from XRD studies are in agreement with the calculated (DFT) values. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The calculated first hyperpolarizability of the title compound is comparable with the reported values of similar derivatives and 63.85 times that of the standard NLO material urea. The HOMO-LUMO transition implies an electron density transfer from the chlorophenyl ring to the fluorophenyl ring. From the MEP analysis it is evident that the negative charge covers the CO group and the positive region is over the phenyl rings.

FT-IR, molecular structure, HOMO-LUMO, MEP, NBO analysis and first order hyperpolarizability of Methyl 4,4″-difluoro-5'-methoxy-1,1':3',1″-terphenyl-4'-carboxylate

Methyl 4,4″-difluoro-5'-methoxy-1,1':3',1″-terphenyl-4'-carboxylate was prepared by the aromatization of a cyclohexenone derivative, Methyl 4,6-bis(4-fluorophenyl)-2-oxocyclohex-3-ene-1-carboxylate using iodine and methanol at reflux conditions. The structure of the compound was confirmed by IR and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. FT-IR spectrum was recorded and analyzed. The crystal structure is also described. The vibrational wavenumbers are calculated using HF and DFT methods and are assigned with the help of potential energy distribution. The geometrical parameters of the title compound obtained from XRD studies are in agreement with the calculated (DFT) values. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. According to the MEP analysis, negative region (red) is mainly over the carbonyl group showing large activity. The calculated hyperpolarizability of the title compound is greater than that of the standard NLO material urea and the title compound is an attractive object for future studies of nonlinear optical properties.

Theoretical investigations on the molecular structure, vibrational spectral, HOMO-LUMO and NBO analysis of 9-[3-(Dimethylamino)propyl]-2-trifluoro-methyl-9H-thioxanthen-9-ol

The experimental FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 9-[3-(Dimethylamino)propyl]-2-trifluoro-methyl-9H-thioxanthen-9-ol have been recorded. Quantum chemical calculations of geometry and vibrational wavenumbers of 9-[3-(Dimethylamino)propyl]-2-trifluoro-methyl-9H-thioxanthen-9-ol are carried out theoretically. Four possible stable conformations of the title compound were determined. In terms of the conformational analysis, one of the most interesting structural features of the title compound is the intra molecular OH⋯N hydrogen bond. The barrier of planarity between the most stable and planar form is also predicted. The optimized geometrical parameters obtained by B3LYP method show a good agreement with XRD data. The difference between the observed and theoretical wavenumbers is very small. The complete assignments were performed on the basis of potential energy distribution of the vibrational modes calculated theoretically. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies allow the calculation of atomic and molecular properties and they also showed that charge transfer occurs in the molecule. A detailed molecular picture of the title compound and its interactions were obtained from NBO analysis. As seen from the MEP map, negative potential regions are over the hydroxyl group and positive potential regions are over the methyl groups.

The conformational behavior and structural stability of (2E)-3-(3-chlorophenyl)prop-2-enoic anhydride were investigated by using density functional theory. The optimized molecular structure, vibrational wavenumbers, corresponding vibrational assignments of (2E)-3-(3-chlorophenyl)prop-2-enoic anhydride have been investigated experimentally and theoretically. The HOMO and LUMO analysis are used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. The stability of the molecule arising from hyperconjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. The calculated first hyperpolarizability of the title compound is 15.8×10(-30)esu, and is 121.54 times that of the standard NLO material urea and the title compound is an attractive object for future studies of nonlinear optical properties. MEP was performed by the DFT method and the predicted infrared intensities and Raman activities have also been reported.

Vibrational spectra, molecular structure, NBO, HOMO-LUMO and first order hyperpoalarizability analysis of 1,4-bis(4-formylphenyl)anthraquinone by density functional theory

Anthraquinone derivatives are most important class of a system that absorb in the visible region. Infrared and Raman spectroscopic analyses were carried out on 1,4-bis(4-formylphenyl)anthraquinone. The interpretation of the spectra was aided by DFT calculations of the molecule. The vibrational wavenumbers were examined theoretically using the Gaussian09 set of quantum chemistry codes, and the normal modes were assigned by potential energy distribution (PED) calculations. A computation of the first hyperpolarizability of the compound indicates that this class of substituted anthraquinones may be a good candidate as a NLO material. Optimized geometrical parameters of the compound are in agreement with similar reported structures. The HOMO and LUMO analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis.

The optimized molecular structure, vibrational frequencies, corresponding vibrational assignments of 1,7,8,9-tetrachloro-10,10-dimethoxy-4-{3-[4-(3-methoxyphenyl) piperazin-1-yl]propyl}-4-azatricyclo[5.2.1.0(2,6)]dec-8-ene-3,5-dione have been investigated experimentally and theoretically using Gaussian09 software package. The stability of the molecule arising from hyper-conjugative interaction and charge delocalization has been analyzed using NBO analysis. Gauge-including atomic orbital (1)H NMR chemical shifts calculations were carried out and compared with experimental data. The HOMO and LUMO analysis is used to determine the charge transfer within the molecule. Molecular Electrostatic Potential was performed by the DFT method and the infrared and Raman intensities have also been reported. First hyperpolarizability is calculated in order to find its role in non-liner optics. The calculated geometrical parameters (SDD) are in agreement with that of similar derivatives. Mulliken's net charges have been calculated and compared with the atomic natural charges.

2-(4-Chlorophenyl)-2-oxoethyl 3-methylbenzoate is synthesized by reacting 4-chlorophenacyl bromide with 2-methylbenzoic acid using a slight excess of potassium or sodium carbonate in DMF medium at room temperature. The structure of the compound was confirmed by IR and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. FT-IR spectrum of 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-2-oxoethyl-3-nitrobenzoate was recorded and analyzed. The crystal structure is also described. The vibrational wavenumbers were computed using HF and DFT methods and are assigned with the help of potential energy distribution method. The first hyperpolarizability and infrared intensities are also reported. The geometrical parameters of the title compound obtained from XRD studies are in agreement with the calculated (DFT) values.
