Sensitive and selective electrochemical determination of doxycycline in pharmaceutical formulations using poly(dipicrylamine) modified glassy carbon electrode

Bimetallic Ag/Au nanoclusters encapsulated in ZIF-8 framework: A novel strategy for ratiometric fluorescence detection of doxycycline in food

This study successfully encapsulated the Ag+-doped Au nanoclusters (Ag/AuNCs) within the ZIF-8 framework to construct a novel Ag/AuNCs@ZIF-8 ratiometric fluorescent probe for the antibiotic doxycycline (DOX) detection. The incorporation of Ag+ contributed to the fluorescence enhancement of the nanoclusters through the "silver effect", consequently improving the stability of the developed bimetallic Ag/AuNCs. Furthermore, the encapsulation of bimetallic Ag/AuNCs within the ZIF-8 framework restricted their intramolecular vibrations, resulting in further amplification of fluorescence intensity at 595 nm. The ZIF-8 also sensitized the restoration of DOX green fluorescence at 515 nm. Within the concentration range of 0.001-20 μg mL-1, the ratio of fluorescence intensity (F515/F595) exhibited a favorable linearity for DOX concentration, with a detection limit of 36.8 ng mL-1. This ratiometric fluorescence approach had the promising potential for accurate and efficient quantitative detection of DOX residue in food and served as a valuable reference for rapid monitoring of food contaminants.

Preparation of a Carbon paste electrode with Active materials for the detection of Tetracycline

The Electrochemical sensor based on carbon-clay paste electrode (CCPE) was constructed for sensitive determination of Tetracycline (Tc). The mineralogical composition, morphology, structure and performance of CCPE were characterized using X-ray diffraction powder, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Cyclic Voltammetry analysis. The CCPE is constituted of two types of clay having the ratio 1/1 and 2/1 characteristic of kaolinite and montmorillonite clay respectively. Its porous structure is ascribed to the presence of graphite. The CCPE exhibited a good electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of Tc. The electrochemical kinetics and mechanism of Tc were proposed, showing that Tc electrocatalytic oxidation reaction was controlled by diffusion process and took place in three steps. A low concentration of Tc was detected by amperometry with the linear ranges of 0.5μM-0.8 μM (R2 = 0.98), the sensitivity was 8.01 μA/μM.cm2, the limit of detection and quantification were 5.16x10-3μM(S/N = 3) and 1.72x10-2μM respectively. Thus, the proposed electrode provides a promising and prospective CCPE sensing platform for the detection of Tc in the environment.

Voltammetric determination of doxycycline in feedstock using modified carbon screen-printed electrode

In this work, we describe the development of an electrochemical sensing platform that employs electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ErGO) and gold (Au) deposited on a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) to synthesize Au/ErGO/SPCE for the determination of the antibiotic drug doxycycline (DC). A modified Hummer's approach was adopted to initially prepare graphene oxide, which was then characterized by using powder XRD, FTIR, and UV spectroscopy before being utilized for modification on SPCE. Cyclic voltammetry was performed to form ErGO on SPCE to give ErGO/SPCE followed by electrodeposition of gold to get a final modified electrode Au/ErGO/SPCE. The effect of experimental conditions, like scan rate and pH on the electrochemical behavior of DC for Au/ErGO/SPCE, was evaluated. Square wave voltammetry (SWV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements were used to assess the electro-oxidation of DC on Au/ErGO/SPCE, and the electrochemical reaction conditions were also optimized. Furthermore, Au/ErGO/SPCE-based electrochemical sensors showed good recovery and high accuracy for DC determination in the complex food matrix and blood serum. The limit of detection (LOD), the limit of quantification (LOQ), and the linear calibration range of DC on Au/ErGO/SPCE under optimum experimental conditions were 0.124 µm, 0.415 µm, and 1-100 µm respectively, with high sensitivity of 0.194 μA μM-1 cm-2. Finally, the proposed electrochemical sensing platform was effectively used to determine low DC concentrations in real samples such as chicken flesh and blood serum, indicating its wide range of applications in quality control.

Investigation of the Real-Time Release of Doxycycline from PLA-Based Nanofibers

Electrospun mats of PLA and PLA/Hap nanofibers produced by electrospinning were loaded with doxycycline (Doxy) through physical adsorption from a solution with initial concentrations of 3 g/L, 7 g/L, and 12 g/L, respectively. The morphological characterization of the produced material was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The release profiles of Doxy were studied in situ using the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) electrochemical method on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and validated through UV-VIS spectrophotometric measurements. The DPV method has been shown to be a simple, rapid, and advantageous analytical technique for real-time measurements, allowing accurate kinetics to be established. The kinetics of the release profiles were compared using model-dependent and model-independent analyses. The diffusion-controlled mechanism of Doxy release from both types of fibers was confirmed by a good fit to the Korsmeyer-Peppas model.
