Abstract
Dissolved antibiotics have been a research subject due to their widespread presence and potential threats in drinking water treatment. To enhance the photocatalytic activity of Bi2MoO6 for the degradation of norfloxacin (NOR), the heterostructured Co3O4/Bi2MoO6 (CoBM) composites were synthesized by employing ZIF-67-derived Co3O4 on Bi2MoO6 microspheres. The as-synthesized resultant material 3-CoBM by 300 °C calcination was characterized by XRD, SEM, XPS, transient photocurrent techniques, and EIS. The photocatalytic performance was evaluated by monitoring different concentrations, NOR removal from aqueous solution. Compared with Bi2MoO6, 3-CoBM exhibited the better adsorption and elimination capacity of NOR due to the combined effect between peroxymonosulfate activation and photocatalytic reaction. The influences of catalyst dosage, PMS dosage, various interfering ions (Cl-, NO3-, HCO3-, and SO42-), pH value, and type of antibiotics for application removal were also invested. By activating PMS under visible-light irradiation, 84.95% of metronidazole (MNZ) can be degraded within 40 min, and NOR and tetracycline (TC) can be completely degraded using 3-CoBM. Degradation mechanism was elucidated by quenching tests in combination with EPR measurement, and the degree of activity of the active groups from strong to weak is h+, SO4-•, and •OH, respectively. The degradation products and conceivable degradation pathways of NOR were speculated by LC-MS. In combination of excellent peroxymonosulfate activation and highly enhanced photocatalytic performance, this newly Co3O4/Bi2MoO6 catalyst might be a promising candidate for degrading emerging antibiotic contamination in wastewater.

Abstract
In this work, we found that the presence of non-active ZnO crystals greatly accelerated the degradation of Bisphenol A (BPA) by 3.7 folds in the peroxymonosulfate (PMS, HSO5-)/Co3O4 system. Our mechanistic study revealed that the ZnO particles would create negative electric microfields around them, which are closely related with the zeta potentials (ζ) of ZnO and affected by solution pH. According to COMSOL simulation, the electrostatic repulsion between ZnO and PMS would drive HSO5- toward active Co3O4 surface, leading to the concentration increasing of HSO5- around active Co3O4 particles, which will then improve the degradation performance. The particle size of ZnO will also affect the promoting effect greatly by COMSOL simulation. Therefore, this study for the first time reveals synergy of electric microfields for enhanced heterogeneous Fenton-like reactions, providing a low-cost and effective strategy for enhanced persulfate catalysis.

Abstract
A stable metal-organic framework with the formula {[Co(BBZB)(IPA)]·H2O}n (JXUST-23, BBZB = 4,7-bis(1H-benzimidazole-1-yl)-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole and H2IPA = isophthalic acid) was constructed by incorporating Co2+ ions and two conjugated ligands under solvothermal conditions. JXUST-23 takes a dinuclear cluster-based layer structure with a porosity of 2.7%. In this work, JXUST-23 was used to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade rhodamine B (RhB), a difficult-to-degrade pollutant in water. Compared with pure PMS or JXUST-23, the JXUST-23/PMS system displays the best degradation ability of RhB in neutral solution. When the mass ratio of JXUST-23 to PMS was 2:3, 99.72% of RhB (50 ppm) was removed within 60 min, and the reaction rate was 0.1 min-1. Furthermore, free radical quenching experiments show that SO4•- was the main free radical during the process of RhB degradation. In addition, JXUST-23 exhibits good reusability for the degradation of the organic dye RhB, making it a potential candidate for environmental remediation.

Abstract
Sulfosalicylic acid is a typical pharmaceutical and personal care product with high toxicity, environmental persistence, and low biodegradability. Electrochemical oxidation has been demonstrated to be a promising way for hazardous organics treatment, but it is severely limited by the high cost and resource shortage of electrode materials. Base-metal oxide semiconductor anodes have the merits of low cost, diversity, and tunable energy levels for charge transfer, and thus may be alternatives to the electrodes for wastewater treatment. Herein, we found that Ti-doped α-Fe2O3, as an example, could be efficient for sulfosalicylic acid oxidation, reaching comparable faraday efficiency of sulfosalicylic acid to that of the boron-doped diamond electrode. Ti-doped electrodes exhibited both higher removal rates and current efficiency compared to the undoped. This could be mainly ascribed to the enhanced charge transfer rate constant. Kinetic analysis shows that the apparent reaction order, in terms of sulfosalicylic acid in bulk solution, depended on applied potential and pollutant concentration. Mechanism study shows that the oxidation of sulfosalicylic acid was mainly through indirect pathway. Moreover, the oxidation products were determined and the oxidation mechanism was proposed. This study may open a door to employ base-metal oxide semiconductor anodes for the efficient treatment of organic wastewater.

Abstract
Ru species were loaded on a two-dimensional (2D) material of graphitic carbon nitride (2D g-C3N4) to serve as the efficient AOP catalysts. The catalytic activity was closely related to the dispersion degree of Ru, as determined by the inherent nanoarchitecture of the supporting material. Ultrathin g-C3N4 nanosheets with a unique porous structure were fabricated by further thermally oxidizing and etching bulk g-C3N4 (bCN) in air. Homogeneous dispersion of Ru species was successfully achieved on the porous few-layered g-C3N4 nanosheets (pCN) by stirring, washing, freeze drying and annealing processes to obtain Ru-pCN catalysts, whereas bCN or multilayered g-C3N4 (mCN) led to the aggregation of Ru nanoparticles in Ru-bCN and Ru-mCN materials. The conventional impregnation method also caused the resulting Ru-pCN-imp catalyst with undesirable Ru aggregation in spite of employing pCN. The optimal 4.4Ru-pCN removed 100% of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) within only 3 min, superior to its counterpart samples, and exhibited remarkable degradation efficiencies for methyl orange, neutral red, 4-chlorophenol, tetracycline and oxytetracycline. Mechanistic studies suggested that four radicals, e.g., •OH, SO4• -, O2• - and 1O2 were generated during the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation, in which SO4• - and 1O2 played a major role.

Abstract
As 2-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA) represents a typical pharmaceutical and personal care product (PPCP), constant releasing of HBA into the environment poses threats to the ecology, and thus it is critical to develop effective techniques to remove HBA from water. Recently, sulfate radical (SO4‒)-based advanced oxidation processes involved with monopersulfate (MPS) activation are proven as effective approaches for eliminating PPCPs from water, and Co3O4 is recognized as a capable catalyst for activating MPS. Therefore, great interests have arisen to develop Co3O4-based catalysts with advantageous morphologies and characteristics for enhancing catalytic activities. Therefore, a special Co3O4-based material is proposed in this work. Through a surfactant-assisted strategy, a cubic Co-MOF is prepared and used as a precursor, which is etched to afford hollow structure, and then transformed into hollow porous Co3O4 nanobox (PCNB). PCNB can exhibit distinct reactive surface with abundant surface oxygen vacancy as well as physical properties in comparison to the commercial Co3O4 NPs (com-Co3O4 NP), thereby leading to the outstanding catalytic activity of PCNB for activating MPS to degrade HBA. The activation energy (Ea) of 46.2 kJ/mol is also calculated using PCNB + MPS system, which is much lower than most of recent reported studies for activating MPS. PCNB could be also reusable over 5 consecutive HBA degradation cycles. The activation mechanism of MPS by PCNB and HBA degradation pathway are also comprehensively elucidated via experimental evidences and the theoretical calculation to offer insightful information of development of Co3O4 for HBA degradation.

Abstract
In this study, an iron(III)-loaded magnetic chitosan/graphene oxide composite (Fe-MCG) was synthesized and applied for the adsorptive removal of sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) in aqueous solution. The results obtained from the application of various characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) prove the successful formation of the composite with enhanced microstructure and superparamagnetic properties. The adsorption capacity of Fe-MCG towards SSA via batch mode reaches up to 135 mg/g at 293 K. The adsorption of SSA onto Fe-MCG is driven by monolayer adsorption with the chemical and physical adsorption processes both playing active roles. The Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models were observed to best describe the equilibrium adsorption and kinetic processes, respectively. The values obtained for the associated thermodynamic parameters confirm that the adsorptive process is spontaneous, exothermic and entropy-increasing. The efficacy and reusability of the spent Fe-MCG was studied using 0.01 mol/L NaOH solution. The kinetic process for the desorption of SSA from Fe-MCG is well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Based on the experimental results and XPS analysis, the underlying mechanisms for the uptake of SSA onto Fe-MCG involve electrostatic forces, complexation, π-π stacking, and hydrogen bonding. Overall, the excellent features of Fe-MCG enhance its potential as an adsorbent for the sequestration of SSA in environmental media.

Abstract
The presence of aromatic compounds with multiple functional groups such as 5-sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) in water bodies is a threat to aquatic organisms and human health. Phenol (PH) with the -OH group, benzoic acid with -COOH and benzenesulfonic acid (BSA) with -SO3H can be considered as SSA structural unit. In this study, three functional monomers, namely, N-methylallylamine, diallylamine, and triallylamine, with strong affinity for PH, BA, and BSA, respectively, were selected from 16 monomers by using density functional theory (DFT). Molecularly imprinted resin (MIP-4) with tri-functional groups and excellent selectivity for SSA was synthesized using a macroporous polystyrene resin (NDA-1800) as the carrier. In binary systems, MIP-4 exhibited excellent imprinting effect and adsorption selectivity for SSA. X-ray spectroscopy data and DFT calculations illustrated that the adsorption of SSA on MIP-4 was mainly dependent on the strong electrostatic interaction between the protonated amine group on the resin and -SO3- of SSA, as well as, the hydrogen bond between the neutral amine group and -OH and -COOH of SSA; the order of the three functional groups in identification was -OH > -COOH > -SO3H. In addition, the adsorption performance of MIP-4 was retained after five adsorption-desorption cycles.
