Abstract
SARS-CoV-2 is a highly contagious pathogen that predominantly caused the COVID-19 pandemic. The persistent effects of COVID-19 are defined as an inflammatory or host response to the virus that begins four weeks after initial infection and persists for an undetermined length of time. Chronic effects are more harmful than acute ones thus, this review explored the long-term effects of the virus on various human organs, including the pulmonary, cardiovascular, and neurological, reproductive, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, and lymphoid systems and found that SARS-CoV-2 adversely affects these organs of older adults. Regarding diagnosis, the RT-PCR is a gold standard method of diagnosing COVID-19; however, it requires specialized equipment and personnel for performing assays and a long time for results production. Therefore, to overcome these limitations, artificial intelligence employed in imaging and microfluidics technologies is the most promising in diagnosing COVID-19. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological strategies are the most effective treatment for reducing the persistent impacts of COVID-19 by providing immunity to post-COVID-19 patients by reducing cytokine release syndrome, improving the T cell response, and increasing the circulation of activated natural killer and CD8 T cells in blood and tissues, which ultimately reduces fever, nausea, fatigue, and muscle weakness and pain. Vaccines such as inactivated viral, live attenuated viral, protein subunit, viral vectored, mRNA, DNA, or nanoparticle vaccines significantly reduce the adverse long-term virus effects in post-COVID-19 patients; however, no vaccine was reported to provide lifetime protection against COVID-19; consequently, protective measures such as physical separation, mask use, and hand cleansing are promising strategies. This review provides a comprehensive knowledge of the persistent effects of COVID-19 on people of varying ages, as well as diagnosis, treatment, vaccination, and future preventative measures against the spread of SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study investigated the intensity-effects of strength training on thigh muscle mass, cytokines, and immunocytes in the older adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 81 participated in this study. Participants were assigned randomly to four groups: control group (CON), low- (LSE), moderate- (MSE), and high-intensity strength exercise (HSE) groups. Three exercise groups worked out for 50 min/day, 3 days/week for 12 weeks. RESULTS In the thigh volume analyzed by computed tomography, the exercise groups showed a significant increase in the muscle mass, with a clear pattern of change observed in the groups who exercised with moderate to high intensity. The lowest levels of interleukin (IL)-6 in the MSE group (-20.94%) and tumor necrosis factor-α in the HSE group (-28.75%) were observed. Notably, IL-10 showed a significant increase (35.72%) only in the MSE group. In the CON group, natural killer (NK) cells showed a decrease, while in the exercise groups, their levels increased. The highest levels of NK cells were observed in the HSE group. Similar patterns of change were observed in CD4 T cells and CD19 B cells. CD3 and CD8 T cells exhibited significant increases in the MSE and HSE groups. CONCLUSIONS This study presents evidence that engaging in moderate to high-intensity exercise may have a positive impact on cytokines and immunocytes by increasing muscle mass in older adults who may have sarcopenia. SIMPLE SUMMARY Engaging in strength training exercises is considered crucial for maintaining the health of older individuals who are susceptible to sarcopenia. When resistance exercises are performed at a moderate to strenuous intensity, it is anticipated that positive changes can occur in cytokines and immunocytes. These changes can be observed through improvements in thigh muscle volumes as measured by computed tomography.

Abstract
Background The exact causal mechanisms of depression remain unclear due to the complexity of the triggers, which has led to limitations in treating depression using modern drugs. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is as effective as medication in treating depression without toxic side effects. Typically, HIIT requires less time commitment (i.e., shorter exercise duration) and exhibits pronounced benefits on depressive symptoms than other forms of physical exercise. This review summarizes the risk reduction and clinical effects of HIIT for depression and discusses the underlying mechanisms, providing a theoretical basis for utilizing HIIT in treating depression. Methods A database search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus from inception up to October 2022. The methodological quality of the included literature was evaluated by the physiotherapy evidence database (PEDro) scale criteria. The review focused on evaluating the changes in depression risk or symptoms of HIIT interventions in healthy individuals, patients with depression, and patients with other disorders co-morbid with depression. Consequently, the mechanisms associated with depression related HIIT were summarized. Results A total of 586 participants (52 % female; mean age: 43.58±8.93 years) from 22 studies were included. Implementing HIIT using different exercise types alleviates depressive symptoms in individuals with depression and in individuals with depression who have exhibited comorbidities and reduced depression scale scores in subjects immediately after acute exercise. In addition, the long-interval HIIT and short-interval HIIT in the treatment of patients with cardiovascular or psychiatric disorders may reduce depressive symptoms via complex exercise-related changes on several levels, including by effecting the following measures: releasing monoamines, reducing neuronal death, inducing neurogenesis, modulating the functional homeostasis of the HPA axis, and enhancing the level of inflammation in the body. Conclusion HIIT is a relatively safe and effective antidepressant, which may involve multiple neurobiological mechanisms (release of monoamines, reducing neuronal death, inducing neurogenesis, modulating the functional homeostasis of the HPA axis, and enhancing the level of inflammation in the body), thereby reducing the risk or symptoms of depression in participants.

Abstract
Patients with prior COVID-19 infection may present with lasting multisystem symptoms that require intervention and includes exercise rehabilitation. The aim of this systematic review was to investigate the quality of articles, with emphasis on exercise rehabilitation, and conduct a meta-analysis on experimental and observational rehabilitation intervention studies on cardiorespiratory fitness and pulmonary function in post-COVID-19 infection patients. This systematic review used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines for evaluating rehabilitation interventions in clinical practice. A methodical search of cohort and experimental studies occurred from January 2019 up to March 2023. Thirty-two studies were included for complete analysis. The quality of the eligible studies for complete review was fair overall. The studies did not provide a detailed account of key descriptors of exercise such as volume, progression, motivational strategies, adherence and replication. There was a significant difference in the 6-minute walk test (Mean difference (MD) = 51.69 m; confidence intervals (CIs) = 36.99 to 66.38; p < 0.001, level of heterogeneity (I2) = 0), percent of predicted forced expiratory volume in one second (MD = 7.95%; CIs = 3.46 to 12.44; p = 0.0005, I2 = 65%) and percent of predicted forced vital capacity (MD = 3.49%; 95% CI = 1.25 to 5.73; p = 0.002; I2 = 37%) between the experiment and control groups. The current evidence suggests that rehabilitation interventions significantly improve cardiorespiratory fitness and pulmonary function in post-COVID-19 infection patients; however, there is a need for conceptualising high-quality and long-term rehabilitation interventions, especially exercise interventions.

Abstract
Background The decrease in physical function resulting from COVID-19 infection exerts a substantial negative influence on the quality of life of individuals. Physical activity plays a crucial and irreplaceable role in hastening the elimination of adverse effects on the body caused by acute and chronic diseases. Nevertheless, there have been reports of unfavorable events following physical activity post-COVID-19 infection, sparking debate regarding the efficacy of physical activity as a rehabilitation method to enhance the physical function of COVID-19 patients. Objective The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of physical activity on promoting the restoration of physical function among individuals with COVID-19, and to offer guidance for the advancement and consideration of physical activity in the rehabilitation treatment of COVID-19 patients. Methods A search was conducted on the PubMed and Web of Science core collection databases, with the search period set from January 1, 2020, to February 6, 2023. The included literature was assessed for risk of bias and methodological quality according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions, utilizing Review Manager 5.1 software. The outcome measures from the included studies were analyzed, and the quality of evidence for the outcome measures was graded using the GRADE classification criteria. Results The effect of physical activity intervention on improving the 6-Minute Walk Test score in COVID-19 patients was better than that of conventional treatment [WMD = 69.19(95%CI = 39.38, 98.99), I2 = 57%(p = 0.03)]. The effect of physical activity on improving the 30-Second Sit-to-Stand Test score was better than that of conventional treatment [WMD = 2.98(95%CI = 1.91, 4.04), I2 = 0%(p = 0.56)]. There was no significant difference between physical activity and conventional treatment in improving Grip strength in COVID-19 patients [WMD = 2.35(95%CI = -0.49, 5.20), I2 = 0%(p = 0.80)]. The effect of physical activity on improving the Timed Up and Go test score in COVID-19 patients was better than that of conventional treatment [WMD = -1.16(95%CI = -1.98, -0.34), I2 = 4%(p = 0.35)]. The effect of physical activity on improving Forced Vital Capacity in COVID-19 patients was better than that of conventional treatment [WMD = 0.14(95%CI = 0.08, 0.21), I2 = 0%(p = 0.45)]. The effect of physical activity on improving Forced Expiratory Volume in the first second in COVID-19 patients was better than that of conventional treatment [WMD = 0.08(95%CI = 0.02, 0.15), I2 = 52%(p = 0.10)]. Conclusions Physical activity plays a crucial role in facilitating the recovery of exercise capacity and pulmonary function in COVID-19 patients, helping to expedite the restoration of overall physical health. It is crucial for COVID-19 patients to undergo an accurate assessment of their physical condition before engaging in any physical activity.

Abstract
Introduction Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide during cardiovascular diseases. An important step in the secondary prevention of recurrent myocardial infarction is cardiac rehabilitation (CR). However, with the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the CR programs in many clinics were limited due to the quarantine measures. Knowledge about the effects of CR on quality of life and exercise tolerance in AMI patients with COVID is scarce. Aim To evaluate the use of a modular CR program on quality of life and exercise tolerance among post-AMI patients with COVID-19 recovery, and in those with no history of COVID-19 infection. Material and methods This study included 118 patients with or recovering from acute myocardial infarction. They were divided into 2 groups: the first group included 86 patients, who had slight "ground-glass opacity" changes on the computed tomography (CT) scans, and the second group comprised 32 patients, who had no history of coronavirus infection or no change on CT scan of the lungs during the pandemic. The CR program was modified due to the pandemic era. Results Physical tolerance increased in both groups after CR 3.6 months as compared to before the CR program (duration of training in seconds (p < 0.05), a 6-minute walk test (p < 0.05), the maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) (p < 0.05), and the metabolic equivalent of task (MET) (p < 0.05)). Similarly, quality of life measures improved in both groups. Treatment satisfaction was higher in the first group at the beginning and the end of CR. Conclusions The modular CR program improves exercise capacity and quality of life with AMI and COVID-19 similar to that of patients without AMI. Patients after COVID-19 should undergo rehabilitation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is seriously endangering human health worldwide. This study finds effective intervention modalities of physical activity on COVID-19 through a narrative review. METHODS In this study, 41 papers were selected for a narrative literature review after a comprehensive database search from 20 December 2019, to 30 August 2022. RESULTS 41 articles meet the established criteria, and in this review, we comprehensively describe recent studies on exercise and COVID-19, including the impact and recommendations of exercise on COVID-19 prevention, patients with COVID-19, and noninfected populations. CONCLUSIONS The literature suggests that physical activity (PA) contributes to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19, can promote recovery of physical function, alleviate post-acute COVID-19 syndrome, and improve patients' psychological well-being. It is recommended to develop appropriate exercise prescriptions for different populations under the guidance of a physician.

We examined the effect of a COVID-19 infection on changes in exercise levels in recreational athletes in the first three months after infection, and identified personal factors associated with a larger change in exercise level and recovery time. Recreational athletes (n=4360) completed an online questionnaire on health and exercise levels. 601 Athletes have had a diagnostically confirmed COVID-19 infection, while 3479 athletes did not (non-COVID-19 group). Exercise levels (in MET-min/week) were examined prior to (2019) and during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020) for the non-COVID-19 group, and in 2019, 1-month pre-COVID-19 infection, 1-month post-COVID-19 infection and 3 months post-COVID-19 infection in the COVID-19 group. Median exercise level at baseline in the COVID-19 group was 3528 (IQR=1488-5760) MET-min/week. One-month post-COVID-19 infection, exercise level dropped 58% (2038 MET-min/week), which partly stabilized to 36% (1256 MET-min/week) below baseline values 3 months post-COVID-19 infection. Moreover, in both the COVID-19 (pre-COVID-19 infection) and non-COVID-19 group exercise levels during the pandemic decreased with ~260 MET-min/week. These results illustrate that even a relatively physically active population of recreational athletes is significantly affected by a COVID-19 infection, particularly those athletes who are overweight. COVID-19 disease burden, age, sex, comorbidities and smoking were not associated with reduced exercise levels.

Abstract
Background Early mobilization in the intensive care unit (ICU) is a hotspot. This study aims to provide a bibliometric perspective of the progress in this field. Methods We extracted publications on ICU early mobilization published in the Web of Science Core Collection database from 2000 to 2021. VOSviewer was used to construct co-occurrence and co-citation relationships for authors, references, and keywords; Citespace was used to visualize knowledge mapping of subject categories, countries, and keywords with the strongest citation bursts. Results A total of 4,570 publications were analyzed, with a steady increase in publications in the field of ICU early mobilization. From a macro perspective, research on ICU early mobilization involves multidisciplinary involvement, including critical care medicine, neurology, and nursing; as for the meso perspective, the United States is the major contributor. Needham DM and Schweickert WD are the key researchers in this field. Moreover, the core journal is Critical Care Medicine, with the most publications and citations. The microscopic level, dominated by references and keywords, illustrates that the hotspot and frontier of research on ICU early mobilization focus on ICU-acquired weakness, delirium, the prognosis of critical illness, and severe COVID-19. Conclusion This study presents a research landscape of ICU early mobilization from different perspectives. These findings will contribute to a better understanding of the current state of research in critical care medicine and provide the available information for future research ideas.

Abstract
Physical activity is beneficial to modulate immune system function and has inverse relationship to ARDS linked with SARS-CoV-2. Physical activity consists of daily activity and physical training. Studies regarding effect of physical training on patients with COVID-19 are controversial. This systematic review aims to investigate physical training on muscle health and QOL in patients with COVID-19. The literature review was carried out using keywords: (Exercise) AND (COVID) AND (Muscle) AND (Observational Study) in several databases of PubMed and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL). All references were reviewed using critical appraisal Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) and Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM) checklist. The studies were subsequently screened for reporting exercise, muscle, and COVID-19. The descriptions of the extracted data are guided by Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) statement with GRADE approach. This study is registered in PROSPERO: ID CRD42021295188. Six studies pooled and entered review synthesis. Studies were reviewed using critical appraisal by NOS and CEBM. Two clinical trial studies and four observational designs were selected. Our result showed physical training improved patients' outcomes in the acute phase, critical phase, and post-COVID-19 phase. Multiple types of physical trainings were suggested by those studies, and most of them showed beneficial effects to patients with COVID-19 in different phases. The level of evidence by GRADE was downgraded, and further investigations are needed to establish guidelines and strong recommendation for a specific stage of COVID-19.
