Abstract
Polytopic ligands have become ubiquitous in coordination chemistry because they grant access to a variety of mono- and polynuclear complexes of transition metals as well as rare-earth and main-group elements. Nitrogen-based ditopic ligands, in which two monoanionic N,N-binding sites are framed within one molecule, are of particular importance and are therefore the primary focus of this review. In detail, bis(amidine)s, bis(guanidine)s, bis(β-diimine)s, bis(aminotroponimine)s, bis(pyrrolimine)s, and miscellaneous bis(N,N-chelating) ligands are reviewed. In addition to the general synthetic protocols, the application of these ligands is discussed along with their coordination chemistry, the multifarious binding modes, and the ability of these ligands to bridge two (or more) metal(loids).

Abstract
A group of new mononuclear boron chelate compounds [BPh2{κ2N,N'-5-R-NC4H2-2-C(H)[double bond, length as m-dash]N-Ar}] (R = Ar = C6H57; R = C6H5, Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H38; R = Anthracen-9-yl (Anthr), Ar = C6H59; R = Anthr, Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H310) were synthesized via the reaction of B(C6H5)3 with the corresponding 5-substituted 2-(N-arylformimino)pyrrole ligand precursors 3-6. These complexes were prepared in order to evaluate the luminescence potential derived from the substitution of the position 5 of the pyrrolyl ring with an aromatic group. Compounds 7-10 were photophysically characterized in solution and in the solid state. The 5-phenyl-2-iminopyrrolyl-BPh2 complexes 7 and 8 are blue emitters and have enhanced photoluminescence quantum yields in the solid state (ΦPL) up to 0.95, whereas the 5-anthracenyl derivatives 9 and 10 have green-bluish fluorescence and a ΦPL of 0.49 and 0.24, respectively. DFT and TDDFT studies were performed, considering the effect of solvent and dispersion, in order to show how the geometries of compounds 7-10 changed from the ground to the excited state, to assign electronic transitions, and to rationalize the observed luminescence. These materials were applied in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), with various device structures, the best showing an external quantum efficiency of 2.75% together with a high luminance of 23 530 cd m-2.

A complex [NiL] was prepared by the self-assembly of 1,4-bis(pyrrol-2-ylmethyleneamine)butane (H2L) with Ni(OAc)2·2H2O, its structure was elucidated by X-ray analysis and the weak intermolecular interactions play a crucial role in the molecular packing.

Abstract
A mononuclear salicylaldehydato copper(II) complex and an infinite 2-aminopyridyl silver(I) coordination polymer have been synthesised by the self-assembly reaction based on the metal-induced hydrolysis of N-salicylidene-2-aminopyridine. The latter chain-like polymer is novel and unavailable under usual reaction conditions. Additionally, an interesting 2D polymeric network is formed from the weak intermolecular interactions.

Abstract
In the title compound, C16H18N2O2, the molecule adopts an E conformation about the C=N double bond. The dihedral angle between the pyrrole and phenyl rings is 41.55 (8)°. In the crystal structure, pairs of intermolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the molecules into centrosymmetric dimers. In the dimer, the two pyrrole rings are almost coplanar and the two phenyl rings are parallel to each other.

Abstract
A novel series of bis(pyrrol-2-yl-methyleneamine) ligands H2L(n) (n = 1-4) were synthesized via condensation of diamines with two equivalents of 2-formyl-pyrrole (2). Their Zn(II) complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, mass spectra and IR spectra. The crystal structures of [ZnL(1)]2 and [ZnL(4)]2 obtained from ethanol solution was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, each of them possesses a double-stranded helical geometry. In addition, the DNA-binding properties of the compounds have been fully investigated by absorption, fluorescence and viscosity measurements.

Abstract
The syntheses and solid-state and solution structures of a series of unusually volatile, charge neutral, [4 + 4] double-stranded helical complexes of divalent manganese, iron, cobalt, and zinc are described. Deprotonation of the N4-donor iminopyrrole ligand H2L by KH cleanly generates the salt K2(THF)2L, which displays both sigma and pi interactions between K and iminopyrrolyl fragments in the X-ray crystal structure. Transamination, salt elimination, and protonolysis reactions were found to be versatile and, in general, high-yielding routes to the dinuclear double helicates [M2(L)2] (M = Mn, Fe, Co, and Zn). These compounds are isomorphous in the solid state by X-ray crystallography and adopt dinuclear cleft motifs as a result of pi stacking between opposing iminopyrrolyl fragments. This motif was also observed in the solution structures of [Fe2(L)2] and [Zn2(L)2] below 230 and 200 K, respectively (DeltaG++ = approximately 46 and 39.0 kJ mol(-1), respectively).
