Abstract
Herein, we report the preparation of 2H-pyrano[3,2-c]chromene-2,5(6H)-diones 3a-x by reacting 4-hydroxycoumarins 1a-b with Baylis-Hillman adducts 2a-w having electron releasing or electron withdrawing groups on benzyl ring of the pyranochromene moiety and study of their photophysical properties. The study of optical and electrochemical properties of the prepared compounds reveals that the electron releasing and electron withdrawing groups has not much impact on ground and excited state electronic behavior on pyranochromene moiety. The density functional theory suggests the highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals spread on coumarin moiety of pyranochromene unit. Further, these compounds are thermally stable (up to 200 °C) and lead to blue or green emission that should facilitate the development of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).

Abstract
Despite being a very useful C-C bond forming and highly applicative reaction, Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) reaction has been limited by its excessive slow reaction rate, including its intramolecular version. In certain cases, reaction time may even go to weeks and months. A highly chemoselective and rate accelerated intramolecular MBH reaction of just 15 min has been developed. The product dihydroquinoline, being unstable, was converted to an important quinoline framework. In some cases IMBH adducts were isolable, thus confirming the reaction path. Control experiments toward mechanism investigation have been carried out. Use of sodium sulfide has emerged as a rate accelerating catalyst in DMF-EtOH solvent system. Reaction intermediate for IMBH pathway was isolated and characterized. Other aspects such as the application of IMBH adduct for Michael addition and amidation have also been carried out.

Abstract
The efficient and recyclable system, DMAP-based ionic liquid/water, has been developed and used in the Morita– Baylis–Hillman reaction of aromatic aldehydes with acrylates. The coupling reactions under the described basic reaction conditions proceed quickly with good to excellent yields. The ionic liquid could be reused at least five times without significant loss of activity.

Abstract
Background Morita Baylis Hillman (MBH) reaction is used to introduce carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bond in a molecule. The major drawback of this reaction is the relatively low product yield and long reaction time. Though notable changes have been made to improve the reaction rate and yield of MBH adduct by various groups, a reliable synthetic procedure under ambient temperature in presence moisture and air is remain unsolved. Continuing the effort to improve the rate and yield, we report here an eco-friendly and cost-effective method to generate MBH adducts. Non-volatile polyethylene glycol-200 is used as reusable solvents and the reaction was carried out under the influence of microwave energy. Results Microwave irradiation have a remarkable influence on PEG suspended 4-Diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane (DABCO) catalysed MBH reaction between aldehydes and ethyl acrylate. Molecular weight of the PEG is found to have a significant influence on the reaction yield. PEG-200 was the most efficient solvent and in combination with DABCO, the medium can be recycled upto three more runs. This reaction condition is successfully applied to obtain MBH adduct of five different aldehydes in very short time with excellent yield and the required catalyst concentration was very low compared to standard MBH reaction. Since the MBH adduct is an important reactive intermediates for many complex organic syntheses, this approach can be successfully utilised as an alternative to existing reaction conditions. Conclusion A new method was developed to improve the reaction rate and yield of MBH reaction The PEG 200-DABCO combination provides a sustainable, non-volatile, recyclable and environment friendly solvent medium to produce MBH adducts. This medium in combination with microwave energy proved to be very effective to introduce a new carbon-carbon or a carbon-heteroatom bond in a molecule.

Abstract
The first efficient nonenzymatic acylative kinetic resolution of Baylis-Hillman adducts is reported. Chiral pyridine catalyst 1a and an optimized analogue 1e are capable of promoting the synthetically useful enantioselective acylation (the efficiency of which is outstanding for sp(2)-sp(2) carbinol substrates, s = 3.5-13.1, ee up to 97%) of Baylis-Hillman adducts derived from recalcitrant precursors which are currently difficult to synthesize utilizing benchmark asymmetric Baylis-Hillman reaction catalyst technology. A novel one-pot synthesis-kinetic resolution process involving a DBU-catalyzed Baylis-Hillman reaction and subsequent 1e/DBU-mediated enantioselective acylation has also been developed.
