Abstract
Herein, DFT studies corroborating experimental results revealed that the shortest intramolecular hydrogen bonding distance of cis/trans-oxaphosphetane (OPA) oxygen with the CH-hydrogen of a triphenylphosphine phenyl ring provides good evidence for the attained olefin Z/E-selectivity in Wittig olefination of the studied examples. 2-Nitrobenzaldehyde, 3-nitrobenzaldehyde, 2-nitro-3-bromobenzaldehyde, 2-nitro-5-bromobenzaldehyde and 2-nitro-5-arylbenzaldehydes provided Z-nitrostilbenes with (2-chloro-4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-5-(methoxycarbonyl)benzyl) triphenylphosphonium chloride as the major products. However, 4-nitrobenzaldehyde and 2-nitro-6-bromobenzaldehydes furnished E-nitrostilbenes as the major products in high yields. Furthermore, the DFT computed intramolecular CH1/CH2-hydrogen bond distances with Cl/NO2 of selected stilbene derivatives were in good agreement with intramolecular hydrogen bond distances measured from single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements.

Abstract
Energy transfer plays a special role in photocatalysis by utilizing the potential energy of the excited state through indirect excitation, in which a photosensitizer determines the thermodynamic feasibility of the reaction. Bioinspired by the energy-transfer ability of natural product cercosporin, here we developed a green and highly efficient organic photosensitizer HiBRCP (hexaisobutyryl reduced cercosporin) through structural modification of cercosporin. After structural manipulation, its triplet energy was greatly improved, and then, it could markedly promote the efficient geometrical isomerization of alkenes from the E-isomer to the Z-isomer. Moreover, it was also effective for energy-transfer-mediated organometallic catalysis, which allowed realization of the cross-coupling of aryl bromides and carboxylic acids through efficient energy transfer from HiBRCP to nickel complexes. Thus, the study on the relationship between structural manipulation and their photophysical properties provided guidance for further modification of cercosporin, which could be applied to more meaningful and challenging energy-transfer reactions.

Abstract
Olefin aziridination via organocatalytic nitrene transfer offers potential complementarity to metal-catalyzed methods; however there is a lack of reports of such reactions in the literature. Herein is reported a method that employs an iminium salt to catalyze the aziridination of styrenes by [ N-( p-toluenesulfonyl)imino]phenyliodinane (PhINTs). These reactions are hypothesized to proceed via a diaziridinium salt as the active oxidant. In addition to outlining the scope and limitations of the method, evidence for a polar, stepwise mechanism is presented, which provides new insight into the nature of iminium catalysis of nitrene transfer.

Abstract
A highly efficient heterogeneous palladium-catalyzed transfer semihydrogenation of internal alkynes was achieved in dimethylformamide at 145 ºC by using an MCM-41-immobilized bidentate nitrogen palladium(II) complex [MCM-41-2N-Pd(OAc)2] as catalyst and dimethylformamide/KOH as hydrogen source, yielding a variety of cis-alkenes in good to high yields with excellent stereoselectivity. This supported palladium catalyst can be easily recovered by filtration of the reaction solution and recycled up to seven times with almost consistent activity.

A novel resveratrol derivative induces mitotic arrest, centrosome fragmentation and cancer cell death by inhibiting γ-tubulin. Cell Div 2019; 14:3. Abstract
Background Resveratrol and its natural stilbene-containing derivatives have been extensively investigated as potential chemotherapeutic agents. The synthetic manipulation of the stilbene scaffold has led to the generation of new analogues with improved anticancer activity and better bioavailability. In the present study we investigated the anticancer activity of a novel trimethoxystilbene derivative (3,4,4'-trimethoxylstilbene), where two methoxyl groups are adjacent on the benzene ring (ortho configuration), and compared its activity to 3,5,4'-trimethoxylstilbene, whose methoxyl groups are in meta configuration. Results We provide evidence that the presence of the two methoxyl groups in ortho configuration renders 3,4,4'-trimethoxystilbene more efficient than the meta isomer in inhibiting cell proliferation and producing apoptotic death in colorectal cancer cells. Confocal microscopy of α- and γ-tubulin staining shows that the novel compound strongly depolymerizes the mitotic spindle and produces fragmentation of the pericentrosomal material. Computer assisted docking studies indicate that both molecules potentially interact with γ-tubulin, and that 3,4,4'-trimethoxystilbene is likely to establish stronger interactions with the protein. Conclusions These findings demonstrate the ortho configuration confers higher specificity for γ-tubulin with respect to α-tubulin on 3,4,4' trimethoxystilbene, allowing it to be defined as a new γ-tubulin inhibitor. A strong interaction with γ-tubulin might be a defining feature of molecules with high anticancer activity, as shown for the 3,4,4' isomer.

Abstract
In glassy isopentane at 77 K, 1-phenyl-4-(4-pyridyl)-cis-1,cis-3-butadiene (cc-PPyB) and 1-phenyl-4-(4-pyridyl)-cis-1,trans-3-butadiene (ct-PPyB) can undergo simultaneous two-bond photoisomerization. Under the same conditions, 1-phenyl-4-(4-pyridyl)-trans-1,cis-3-butadiene (tc-PPyB) gives tt-PPyB, the ultimate photoproduct in all cases.

Abstract
An efficient synthesis of olefins by the coupling of stabilized, semistabilized, and nonstabilized phosphorus ylides with various carbonyl compounds in the presence of silver carbonate is reported. Wittig olefination of aromatic, heteroaromatic, and aliphatic aldehydes (yields >63%) and a ketone (yield 42%) are demonstrated. These reactions proceed overnight at room temperature, under weakly basic conditions, and as such extend the applicability of the Wittig reaction to base-sensitive reactants.

Abstract
In our ongoing exploration of the structure-activity landscape of anti-invasive chalcones, we have prepared and evaluated a number of structurally related (E)- and (Z)-stilbenes. These molecules exhibited an extraordinary high in vitro potency in the chick heart invasion assay, being active up to 10nmolL(-1), a concentration level a 100-fold lower than the lowest effective doses that have been reported for natural analogues. Furthermore, they possess an interesting pharmacological profile in silico.
