Abstract
The diastereoselective synthesis of 2,3-DHBs has been previously reported via an intramolecular Michael addition reaction using alkali bases such as Cs2CO3 and K2CO3. However, no systematic study has been performed to understand the possible role of bases in the mechanism of the reaction and factors behind the stereoselective outcome of the reaction. Herein, from experimental and theoretical points of view, we disclose the role of the cesium salt in the rate-determining step along the catalytic cycle and the key role of stabilizing non-covalent interactions in the stereoselective outcome of the reaction.

Abstract
We have developed a highly stereoselective formal [4 + 1] annulation reaction to construct trans-2,3-dihydrobenzofurans utilising in situ generated supported pyridinium ylide. This approach has excellent substrate versatility and gram-scale synthesis capability. Moreover, the polymer-anchored pyridine has been recovered and reused multiple times. The product has been transformed into valuable molecules.

Abstract
A novel and efficient method for the generation of o-quinone methide intermediates was developed from the readily available 2-tosylalkylphenols under the mild basic conditions, and their reactions with sulfur ylides were investigated for the stereoselective synthesis of trans-2,3-dihydrobenzofurans.

Abstract
A series of novel hybrid compounds between dihydrobenzofuran and imidazole has been prepared and evaluated in vitro against a panel of human tumor cell lines. The results suggest that substitution of the imidazolyl-1-position with an electron-donating dihydrobenzofuran, and the imidazolyl-3-position with a naphthylacyl or electron-rich phenacyl group, were vital for modulating cytotoxic activity.
