Abstract
Substrate-controlled product divergence in the reaction of 2-aminopyrimidines with polyfluoroarenes under palladium catalysis is demonstrated for the first time. The reaction of secondary N-alkylpyrimidine-2-amines with polyfluoroarenes leads to C5-H polyfluoroarylation via C-H/C-H coupling, while secondary N-aryl substituents yield N-H polyfluoroarylation, forming triarylamines.

Abstract
Herein we report the synthesis of imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine heterocycles via a Cu(II)-mediated functionalization of α'-C(sp3)-H bonds of pyridinylaldimines and subsequent cyclization. This strategy exploits the inherent directing ability of heteroleptic aldimine and pyridine groups in the substrate yielding the C-H functionalization of α'-methylene groups in a regioselective fashion over distant methyl or methylene groups in β or γ positions. The observed correlation between the nature of the anionic ligands (halide vs. carboxylate) bonded to copper and the chemoselectivity of the C(sp3)-H activation process points to a concerted metalation-deprotonation pathway prior to cyclization to furnish the corresponding imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine derivative. This copper-mediated C(sp3)-H bond functionalization reaction works for a variety of substrates incorporating linear alkyl chains (from 3 to 12 carbon atoms), and good functional group tolerance (aryl, ether and ester groups). Cu-Catalyzed C(sp2)-H cyanation on the imidazole ring can then take place selectively under oxidative conditions.

Abstract
Ring substitution reactions of nitroarenes remain an under-developed area of organic synthesis, confined to the narrow domains of SNAr and SNArH reactions. While searching for alternative methodologies, we took stock of the C-H activation reactions of nitroarenes which unearthed a variety of examples of nitro directed regioselective C-H functionalization reactions such as ortho-arylation, -benzylation/alkylation, and -allylation, oxidative Heck and C-H arylation reactions on (hetero)aromatic rings. A collective account of these reactions is presented in this review to showcase the existing landscape of C-H activation reactions of nitroarenes, to create interest in this field for further development and propagate this strategy as a superior alternative for ring substitution reactions of nitroarenes. The prospect of merging the C-H activation of nitroarenes with C-NO2 activation, thereby harnessing NO2 as a transformable multitasking directing group, is also illustrated.

Abstract
The skeletal presence of 1,3-azoles in a variety of bioactive natural products, pharmacophores, and organic materials demands the derivatization of such heteroarenes regioselectively. Plenty of cross-coupling as well as cyclocondensation reactions have been performed to build up these skeletons but remained commercially unrealizable. A couple of severe drawbacks are faced by these traditional protocols that require a more straightforward strategy to obviate them. Transition metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization has emerged as a superior alternative in that context. 1,3-Azoles and their benzo counterparts have been extensively functionalized exploiting both noble and earth-abundant transition metals. Lately, C-2 functionalization have gained much traction due to the ease of attaining high regioselectivity and installation of synthetically manipulative functionalities. This critical review presents a bird's eye view of all major C-2 functionalization of (benz)azoles catalyzed by a diverse set of metals performed over the past 15 years.

Abstract
Azine-containing biaryls are ubiquitous scaffolds in many areas of chemistry, and efficient methods for their synthesis are continually desired. Pyridine rings are prominent amongst these motifs. Transition-metal-catalysed cross-coupling reactions have been widely used for their synthesis and functionalisation as they often provide a swift and tuneable route to related biaryl scaffolds. However, 2-pyridine organometallics are capricious coupling partners and 2-pyridyl boron reagents in particular are notorious for their instability and poor reactivity in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions. The synthesis of pyridine-containing biaryls is therefore limited, and methods for the formation of unsymmetrical 2,2'-bis-pyridines are scarce. This Review focuses on the methods developed for the challenging coupling of 2-pyridine nucleophiles with (hetero)aryl electrophiles, and ranges from traditional cross-coupling processes to alternative nucleophilic reagents and novel main group approaches.

Abstract
An ultrathin film of copper selenide 50 nm thick was deposited using a home-made atomic layer deposition apparatus. Synthesized copper pivalate and bis(triethylsilyl) selenide precursors were used. The deposition rate at 160 °C was 0.48 Å per atomic layer deposition cycle. The thickness was monitored by an in situ ellipsometer and further analyzed by an atomic force microscope. The composition and structure of the film were confirmed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and x-ray diffraction to be Cu1.16Se. The fluorine-doped tin oxide/Cu1.16Se/tungsten wire memristor was fabricated and its memristive effect was investigated. The non-linear I-V curve and spike-timing-dependent plasticity of our Cu1.16Se memristor demonstrate that the short-term and long-term potentiation that occurs in a human brain can be mimicked by adjusting voltage-pulse intervals. A memristor is the electrical equivalent of a synapse. Our memristor has a 1 ms switching time, a 400 s retention time, Roff/on = 2, and reproducibility over 1000 cycles.

Abstract
C-H activation has surfaced as an increasingly powerful tool for molecular sciences, with notable applications to material sciences, crop protection, drug discovery, and pharmaceutical industries, among others. Despite major advances, the vast majority of these C-H functionalizations required precious 4d or 5d transition metal catalysts. Given the cost-effective and sustainable nature of earth-abundant first row transition metals, the development of less toxic, inexpensive 3d metal catalysts for C-H activation has gained considerable recent momentum as a significantly more environmentally-benign and economically-attractive alternative. Herein, we provide a comprehensive overview on first row transition metal catalysts for C-H activation until summer 2018.

Abstract
Transition metal-mediated C-H bond activation and functionalization represent one of the most straightforward and powerful tools in modern organic synthetic chemistry. Bi(hetero)aryls are privileged π-conjugated structural cores in biologically active molecules, organic functional materials, ligands, and organic synthetic intermediates. The oxidative C-H/C-H coupling reactions between two (hetero)arenes through 2-fold C-H activation offer a valuable opportunity for rapid assembly of diverse bi(hetero)aryls and further exploitation of their applications in pharmaceutical and material sciences. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals and applications of transition metal-mediated/catalyzed oxidative C-H/C-H coupling reactions between two (hetero)arenes. The substrate scope, limitation, reaction mechanism, regioselectivity, and chemoselectivity, as well as related control strategies of these reactions are discussed. Additionally, the applications of these established methods in the synthesis of natural products and exploitation of new organic functional materials are exemplified. In the last section, a short introduction on oxidant- or Lewis acid-mediated oxidative Ar-H/Ar-H coupling reactions is presented, considering that it is a very powerful method for the construction of biaryl units and polycylic arenes.

Abstract
The synthesis of hitherto unreported S-alkyl/aryl benzothiazole-2-carbothioate is reported from thiols, oxalyl chloride, and 2-aminothiophenols using 10 mol % n-tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI) as catalyst in acetonitrile through multicomponent reaction (MCR) strategy. The present protocol favored formation of benzothiazoles and thioesters via simultaneous formation of C-N and C-S bonds in good yields with a wide range of substrates. A few of the synthesized derivatives were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity against the protozoan parasite Leishmania donovani, a causative agent of visceral leishmaniasis (VL). Further, these compounds displayed no toxicity toward macrophage RAW 264.7 cells and are therefore nontoxic and effective antileishmanial leads. In silico docking studies were performed to understand the possible binding site interaction with trypanothione reductase (TryR).

Abstract
A copper-mediated formally dehydrative biaryl coupling of azine N-oxides and oxazoles has been developed. The C-C bond-forming process proceeds, accompanied by the removal of the oxygen atom from the azine core, to directly afford the azine-oxazole biaryl linkage. Moreover, this system requires no noble transition metals such as palladium and rhodium, which are common promotors in the related dehydrogenative couplings with the azine N-oxide. Thus, the present protocol can provide a unique and less expensive approach to the azine-containing biheteroaryls of substantial interest in pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry.
