Abstract
A series of chiral ligands were synthesized using chloramphenicol base as starting materials. These ligands were applied to the asymmetric catalytic reactions of terminal alkynes with aldehydes to obtain a propargyl alcohol product in high yield (80-94%) with excellent enantioselectivities (82-96%).

Abstract
Monoterpene thiols are one of the classes of natural flavors that impart the smell of citrus fruits, grape must and wine, black currants, and guava and are used as flavoring agents in the food and perfume industries. Synthetic monoterpene thiols have found an application in asymmetric synthesis as chiral auxiliaries, derivatizing agents, and ligands for metal complex catalysis and organocatalysts. Since monoterpenes and monoterpenoids are a renewable source, there are emerging trends to use monoterpene thiols as monomers for producing new types of green polymers. Monoterpene thioderivatives are also known to possess antioxidant, anticoagulant, antifungal, and antibacterial activity. The current review covers methods for the synthesis of acyclic, mono-, and bicyclic monoterpene thiols, as well as some investigations related to their usage for the preparation of the compounds with antimicrobial properties.

Abstract
Among the several actions contributing to the development of a sustainable society, there is the eco-design of new plastic materials with zero environmental impact but that are possibly characterized by properties comparable to those of the traditional fossil-based plastics. This action is particularly urgent for food packaging sector, which involves large volumes of plastic products that quickly become waste. This work aims to contribute to the achievement of this important goal, proposing new bio-based cycloaliphatic polymers based on trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid and containing different amount of camphoric acid (from 0 to 15 mol %), a cheap and bio-based building block. Such chemical modification was conducted in the melt by avoiding the use of solvents. The so-obtained polymers were processed in the form of films by compression molding. Afterwards, the new and successfully synthesized random copolymers were characterized by molecular (NMR spectroscopy and GPC analysis), thermal (DSC and TGA analyses), diffractometric (wide angle X-ray scattering), mechanical (through tensile tests), and O2 and CO2 barrier point of view together with the parent homopolymer. The article aims to relate the results obtained with the amount of camphoric moiety introduced and to present, the different microstructure in the copolymers in more detail; indeed, in these samples, a different crystalline form developed (the so-called β-PBCE). This latter form was the kinetically favored and less packed one, as proven by the lower equilibrium melting temperature determined for the first time by Baur's equation.

Abstract
The racemic and enantioselective metal-catalyzed addition of arylboronic acids to 4- and 3-(pentafluorosulfur)benzaldehydes is reported. The racemic synthesis was accomplished using a Pd-based system and a wide range of arylboronic acids could be used, resulting in yields of 42 to 98% of the corresponding SF5-containing diarylmethanols. A ruthenium-based system, along with (R,R)-Me-BIPAM as the chiral ligand, was investigated and optimized for the enantioselective version. In this case, while the chiral SF5-containing diarylmethanols were generally obtained in good yields (up to 94%) and enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee), limitations were also observed. For instance, 4-(pentafluorosulfur)benzaldehyde generally provided slightly better yields than 3-(pentafluorosulfur)benzaldehyde. In addition, lower yields and enantioselectivities were observed when using either 4- and 3-substituted arylboronic acids bearing electron-withdrawing (e.g., CO2Et, NO2, CF3) or 2-substituted arylboronic acids (regardless of the nature of the substituent). Overall, the SF5-containing diarylmethanols described herein represent novel and potentially useful fluorinated building blocks for the synthesis of biologically active compounds.
