Abstract
Strategic design for constructing optically pure 1,2,3-trisubstituted cyclopropanes with three contiguous stereocenters represents a formidable challenge in synthetic organic chemistry. Herein, we report a simple and highly enantiospecific transformation of pseudoglycals into chiral 1,2,3-trisubstituted cyclopropanes, featuring three consecutive stereocenters, involving a stereospecific [1,4]-Wittig rearrangement. The effects of functional group orientation and conformational preferences were studied. Successful gram-scale preparations and subsequent derivatization reactions yielded various cyclopropane scaffolds with multiple stereocenters.

Abstract
Tandem mass spectrometry is routinely used for the structural analysis of organic molecules, but many fragmentation reactions are not well understood. Because several potential structures can correspond to a measured mass, the assignment of product ions is ambiguous using mass spectrometry alone. Here, we combine mass spectrometry with high-resolution gas-phase infrared spectroscopy and computational chemistry tools to identify product ion structures and derive collision-induced fragmentation mechanisms of the chromane derivatives Trolox and Methyltrolox. We find that protonated Trolox and Methyltrolox fragment identically via dehydration and decarbonylation, while deprotonated ions display substantially diverging reactivities. For deprotonated Methyltrolox, we observe unusual radical fragmentation reactions and suggest a [1,2]-Wittig rearrangement involving aryl migration in the gas phase. Overall, the combined experimental and theoretical approach presented here revealed complex proton dynamics and intramolecular rearrangement reactions, which expand our understanding on structure-reactivity relationships of isolated molecules in different protonation states.

Abstract
A series of seven O-ethyl-N-butylphenylphosphonamidates with benzyl ether substituents at the para or meta position have been prepared and fully characterised. Upon treatment with n-butyllithium in THF at RT, these undergo Wittig rearrangement in six cases to give the novel phosphonamidate-substituted diarylmethanols in moderate to good yield.

Abstract
Synthetic methods of unnatural α-amino acids have always been the focus of extensive research due to their significant bioactivities. However, convenient transition-metal-free catalyzed methods are still in demand. Herein, we report a novel strategy for the construction of an unnatural α-amino acid skeleton via intramolecular rearrangement of carbamates, which are readily available from amines and their common protecting groups. This rearrangement could afford a variety of amino ester products in up to 98% yield, even in gram-scale reaction. The reaction mechanism was studied in detail through experiments and theoretical calculations. The complex-induced proximity effect (CIPE) from the 2-pyridyl group is shown to be indispensable for this transformation.

Abstract

The N-butyl amide
group, CONHBu, has been found
to be an effective promoter of the [1,2]-Wittig rearrangement of aryl
benzyl ethers and thus allow the two-step synthesis of isomerically
pure substituted diarylmethanols starting from simple hydroxybenzoic
acid derivatives. The method is compatible with a wide range of functional
groups including methyl, methoxy, and fluoro, although not with nitro
and, unexpectedly, is applicable to meta as well
as ortho and para isomeric series.

Abstract
Three isomeric (benzyloxythienyl)oxazolines 9, 11 and 13 have been prepared and are found, upon treatment with a strong base, to undergo either Wittig rearrangement or intramolecular attack of the benzylic anion on the oxazoline function to give products derived from cleavage of the initially formed 3-aminothienofuran products. This pattern of reactivity is directly linked to the distance between the two reactive groups as determined by X-ray diffraction, with the greatest distance in 11 leading to exclusive Wittig rearrangement, the shortest distance in 13 giving exclusively cyclisation-derived products, and the intermediate distance in 9 leading to both processes being observed. The corresponding N-butyl amides were also obtained in two cases and one of these undergoes efficient Wittig rearrangement leading to a thieno[2,3-c]pyrrolone product.

Abstract
Here we report the synthesis of interesting 3-alkyl-4-hydroxy-1-aryl-4-(propa-1,2-dienyl)1H-pyrazol-5(4H)-ones and 9-alkyl-7-aryl-1-oxa-7,8-diazaspiro[4.4]nona-3,8-dien-6-ones, starting from 1,2-diaza-1,3-dienes (DDs) and propargyl alcohol. The reaction proceeds through a sequence Michael-type nucleophilic attack/cyclization/[2,3]-Wittig rearrangement. In the same way, the reaction between the aforementioned DDs and allyl alcohol furnished 4-allyl-4-hydroxy-3-alkyl-1-aryl-1H-pyrazol-5(4H)-ones. A DFT study was also carried out, in order to have decisive clarifications about the mechanism.

Abstract
4-Silyl-5,6-dihydropyrans undergo remarkably selective [1,4]-Wittig rearrangements to give silylcyclopropanes in good yields. The selectivity is independent of the silyl group, but it is influenced by the electronic character of the migrating center. Electron-rich and electron-neutral (hetero)aryl groups and aliphatic substituents at the migrating center lead to exclusive [1,4]-migration, whereas electron-deficient aryl groups predominantly afford [1,2]-Wittig products.

Abstract
A phosphite mediated stereoretentive C-H alkylation of N-alkylpyridinium salts derived from chiral primary amines was achieved. The reaction proceeds through the activation of the N-alkylpyridinium salt substrate with a nucleophilic phosphite catalyst, followed by a base mediated [1,2] aza-Wittig rearrangement and subsequent catalyst dissociation for an overall N to C-2 alkyl migration. The scope and degree of stereoretention were studied, and both experimental and theoretical investigations were performed to support an unprecedented aza-Wittig rearrangement-rearomatization sequence. A catalytic enantioselective version starting with racemic starting material and chiral phosphite catalyst was also established following our understanding of the stereoretentive process. This method provides efficient access to tertiary and quaternary stereogenic centers in pyridine systems, which are prevalent in drugs, bioactive natural products, chiral ligands, and catalysts.

Abstract
Abstractα-Oxy ketones, easily accessible by conventional routes, can be selectively deprotonated generating an enolate intermediate, which upon treatment with paraformaldehyde undergoes an aldol–Tishchenko reaction, leading to relevant 1,2,3-triol fragments in a totally diastereoselective manner. The excellent stereocontrol in the generation of a quaternary stereocenter is attributed to stereoelectronic effects in the Evans intermediate. This methodology allows overcoming some limitations of our previously reported strategy, based on the reaction of α-lithiobenzyl ethers with esters and paraformaldehyde, broadening the scope of the obtained polyols. Synthetic applications of this process include the preparation of a new dilignol model and some functionalized oxetanes.
