Abstract
The effect of copper and its compounds on halogenation and dehalogenation of aromatic compounds will be discussed in the proposed article. Cu oxidized to appropriate halides is an effective halogenation catalyst not only for the synthesis of halogenated benzenes or their derivatives as desired organic fine chemicals, but is also an effective catalyst for the undesirable formation of thermodynamically stable and very toxic polychlorinated and polybrominated aromatic compounds such as polychlorinated biphenyls, dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans accompanied incineration of waste contaminated with halogenated compounds or even inorganic halides. With appropriate change in reaction conditions, copper and its alloys or oxides are also able to effectively catalyze dehalogenation reactions, as will be presented in this review.

Abstract
Electrophilic aromatic substitution (EAS) is one of the most widely researched transforms in synthetic organic chemistry. Numerous studies have been carried out to provide an understanding of the nature of its reactivity pattern. There is now a need for a concise and general, but detailed and up-to-date, overview. The basic principles behind EAS are essential to our understanding of what the mechanisms underlying EAS are. To date, textbook overviews of EAS have provided little information about the mechanistic pathways and chemical species involved. In this review, the aim is to gather and present the up-to-date information relating to reactivity in EAS, with the implication that some of the key concepts will be discussed in a scientifically concise manner. In addition, the information presented herein suggests certain new possibilities to advance EAS theory, with particular emphasis on the role of modern instrumental and theoretical techniques in EAS reactivity monitoring.

Abstract
Transition-metal oxide nanoparticles and molecular coordination compounds are highlighted as functional mimics of halogenating enzymes. These enzymes are involved in halometabolite biosynthesis. Their activity is based upon the formation of hypohalous acids from halides and hydrogen peroxide or oxygen, which form bioactive secondary metabolites of microbial origin with strong antibacterial and antifungal activities in follow-up reactions. Therefore, enzyme mimics and halogenating enzymes may be valuable tools to combat biofilm formation. Here, halogenating enzyme models are briefly described, enzyme mimics are classified according to their catalytic functions, and current knowledge about the settlement chemistry and adhesion of fouling organisms is summarized. Enzyme mimics with the highest potential are showcased. They may find application in antifouling coatings, indoor and outdoor paints, polymer membranes for water desalination, or in aquacultures, but also on surfaces for food packaging, door handles, hand rails, push buttons, keyboards, and other elements made of plastic where biofilms are present. The use of natural compounds, formed in situ with nontoxic and abundant metal oxide enzyme mimics, represents a novel and efficient "green" strategy to emulate and utilize a natural defense system for preventing bacterial colonization and biofilm growth.

Abstract
In the present study, a tin complex immobilized on silica gel as a novel, green, highly efficient and heterogeneous reusable catalyst was synthesized by grafting 2-amino benzamide onto the silica gel surface as a result of the reaction between isatoic anhydride and 3-aminopropyl-functionalized silica gel, followed by complexing with tin chloride. The resulting organic-inorganic hybrid material was evaluated in the one-pot three-component synthesis of spiro[indoline-pyrazolo[4',3':5,6]pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine]trione derivatives in water via the condensation reaction of isatins, barbituric acids, and 1H-pyrazol-5-amines. All the reactions were completed in short reaction times and all the products were obtained in high to excellent yields with high purity. In addition, the synthesized novel catalyst could be separated from the reaction mixture by simple filtration and can be reused up to seven runs without significant loss in activity.

Abstract
An ecofriendly solid catalyst has been synthesized by anchoring vanadium(IV) into organically modified MCM-41. First, the surface of Si-MCM-41 was modified with 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (3-APTES), the amine group of which upon condensation with ortho-hydroxy-acetophenone affords a N(2)O(2)-type Schiff base moiety in the mesoporous matrix. The Schiff base moieties were used to anchor oxo-vanadium(IV) ions. The prepared catalyst has been characterized by UV-vis, IR spectroscopy, small-angle X-ray diffraction (SAX), nitrogen sorption, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) studies. It is observed that the mesostructure has not been destroyed in the multistep synthesis procedure, as evidenced by SAX and TEM measurements. The catalyst has shown unprecedented high conversion as well as para selectivity toward the bromination of hydroxy aromatic compounds using aqueous 30% H(2)O(2)/KBr in water. The reaction proceeds according to the stoichiometric ratio, and the monobrominated product was obtained as the major product using a stoichiometric amount of the bromine source. The immobilized complex does not leach or decompose during the catalytic reactions, showing practical advantages over the free metal complex.
