Abstract
A thioarylation method is developed for the synthesis of 2,3-dihydrothiopheniums through an electrophilic-cyclization-cross-coupling mechanism, harnessing the gold(I)/(III) cycle of the recently developed MeDalPhosAuCl catalyst. Single-crystal X-ray crystal structural analysis of the dihydrothiophenium products characterized the antiaddition of the sulfur and Csp2 group to the alkyne and a preference for 5-endo dig cyclization. The dihydrothiophenium products are demonstrated as synthetic building blocks for stereodefined acyclic tetrasubstituted alkenes upon ring-opening reaction with amines. Intramolecular competition experiments show the favorability of Csp3 tether cyclizations over Csp2 tethers, preferentially generating dihydrothiopheniums over thiopheniums. Intermolecular competition experiments of alkyne aryl groups and an intermolecular aryl iodide competition suggest a rate-determining reductive elimination step in the gold(I)/gold(III) catalytic cycle. This rate-determining step is further supported by HRMS analysis of reaction intermediates that identify the catalyst resting state under turnover conditions. Catalyst poisoning experiments provide evidence of substrate inhibition, further consistent with these conclusions.

Abstract
In this study, we report the electrophilic cyclization of N,N-dimethyl-o-alkynylanilines with arylsiloxanes in the presence of [Pd(OAc)2] and Ag2O catalytic system, which leads to the efficient synthesis of indoles, similar to the one that is obtained through Larock indole synthesis. A range of aryl(trimethoxy)silanes with EDGs and EWGs were successfully utilized for the synthesis of a diverse variety of substituted indoles via the cleavage of the C-Si bond. This protocol exhibits good functional group tolerance and wide substrate scope to provide 2,3-diaryl-N-methylindoles in 26-88% yields.

Abstract
A stable dimethyl(thiodimethyl)sulfonium tetrafluoroborate salt was employed for the electrophilic cyclization reaction of o-alkynyl thioanisoles for the synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted benzo[b]thiophenes. The reaction described herein works well with various substituted alkynes in excellent yields, and a valuable thiomethyl group was introduced with ease. The reaction utilizes moderate reaction conditions and ambient temperature while tolerating various functionalities. To elucidate the mechanism, electrophilic addition reactions using the dimethyl(thiodimethyl)sulfonium tetrafluoroborate salt with diphenylacetylene was demonstrated.

Abstract
A green and practical electrochemical method for the synthesis of C-3-sulfonated benzothiophenes from 2-alkynylthioanisoles and sodium sulfinates was developed under oxidant- and catalyst-free conditions. Moderate to good yields of sulfonated benzothiophenes bearing important and useful functional groups have been achieved at a constant current. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicated a tandem radical addition-cyclization pathway. Moreover, the protocol is easy to scale up and exhibits good reaction efficiency.

Abstract
Benzo[b]thiophenes are aromatic heterocyclic compounds containing benzene
and thiophene rings. This class of heterocycles is present in a large number of natural and
non-natural compounds. Benzo[b]thiophene derivatives have a broad range of applications in
medicinal chemistry such as antimicrobial, anticancer, antioxidant, anti-HIV and antiinflammatory
activities. The use of benzo[b]thiophene derivatives in other fields has also been
reported. Various benzo[b]thiophenes compounds have been employed as organic photoelectric
materials, while several benzo[b]thiophenes have been used as organic semiconductors.
Benzo[b]thiophenes have also been used as building blocks or intermediates for the synthesis
of pharmaceutically important molecules.
:
Due to such a wide range of applicability, the synthesis of benzo[b]thiophene derivatives has
attracted intensive research. Numerous mild and efficient approaches for the synthesis of
benzo[b]thiophenes have been developed over the years. Different catalysts and substrates have been applied for
benzo[b]thiophene synthesis. This review will focus on the studies in the construction of benzo[b]thiophene skeleton,
which date back from 2012.

Abstract
A convenient methodology for the synthesis of mono- and di-halogenated benzo[b]thiophenes is described herein, which utilizes copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate and various sodium halides in the presence of substituted 2-alkynylthioanisoles. The proposed method is facile, uses ethanol as a green solvent, and results in uniquely substituted benzo[b]thiophene structures with isolated yields up to 96%. The most useful component of this methodology is the selective introduction of bromine atoms at every available position (2-7) around the benzo[b]thiophene ring, while keeping position 3 occupied by a specific halogen atom such as Cl, Br or I. Aromatic halogens are useful reactive handles; therefore, the selective introduction of halogens at specific positions would be valuable in the targeted synthesis of bioactive molecules and complex organic materials via metal-catalyzed cross coupling reactions. This work is a novel approach towards the synthesis of dihalo substituted benzo[b]thiophene core structures, which provides a superior alternative to the current methods discussed herein.

Abstract
Several formal heteroborylative cyclization reactions have been recently reported, but little physical-organic and mechanistic data are known. We now investigate the catalyst-free formal thioboration reaction of alkynes to gain mechanistic insight into B-chlorocatecholborane (ClBcat) in its new role as an alkynophilic Lewis acid in electrophilic cyclization/dealkylation reactions. In kinetic studies, the reaction is second-order globally and first-order with respect to both the 2-alkynylthioanisole substrate and the ClBcat electrophile, with activation parameters of ΔG‡ = 27.1 ± 0.1 kcal mol-1 at 90 °C, ΔH‡ = 13.8 ± 1.0 kcal mol-1, and ΔS‡ = -37 ± 3 cal mol-1 K-1, measured over the range 70-90 °C. Carbon kinetic isotope effects supported a rate-determining AdE3 mechanism wherein alkyne activation by neutral ClBcat is concerted with cyclative attack by nucleophilic sulfur. A Hammett study found a ρ+ of -1.7, suggesting cationic charge buildup during the cyclization and supporting rate-determining concerted cyclization. Studies of the reaction with tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane (B(C6F5)3), an activating agent capable of cyclization but not dealkylation, resulted in the isolation of a postcyclization zwitterionic intermediate. Kinetic studies via UV-vis spectroscopy with this boron reagent found second-order kinetics, supporting the likely relevancy of intermediates in this system to the ClBcat system. Computational studies comparing ClBcat with BCl3 as an activating agent showed why BCl3, in contrast to ClBcat, failed to mediate the complete the cyclization/demethylation reaction sequence by itself. Overall, the results support a mechanism in which the ClBcat reagent serves a bifunctional role by sequentially activating the alkyne, despite being less electrophilic than other known alkyne-activating reagents and then providing chloride for post-rate-determining demethylation/neutralization of the resulting zwitterionic intermediate.

Abstract
An efficient bromocyclization process ofortho-substituted arylmethyl sulfide promoted byN-methyl-pyrrolidin-2-one hydrotribromide led to the synthesis of 3-bromo-2-(2-(di)chlorovinyl)benzothiophene as a polyhalogenated platform.

Abstract
A new method has been developed for the synthesis of 2,3-disubstituted benzothiophenes involving the palladium-catalyzed annulation of aryl sulfides with alkynes. This convergent approach exhibited good functional group tolerance, providing rapid access to a diverse array of derivatives from simple, readily available starting materials. This protocol can also be used to synthesize 2-silyl-substituted benzothiophenes, which can be used as versatile platforms for the synthesis of 2,3-unsymmetrically substituted benzothiophenes.
