Abstract
A series of new bidentate N,S-ligands—aziridines containing a para-substituted phenyl sulfide group—was synthesized and evaluated in the Pd-catalyzed Tsuji–Trost reaction and addition of diethylzinc and phenylethynylzinc to benzaldehyde. A high enantiomeric ratio for the addition reactions (up to 94.2:5.8) was obtained using the aziridine ligand bearing a p-nitro phenyl sulfide group. Collected results reveal a specific electronic effect that, by the presence of particular electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups in the PhS- moiety, influences the σ-donor–metal binding and the enantioselectivity of the catalyzed reactions.

Abstract
In this work, we present a novel, efficient and green methodology for the synthesis of thioethers by the C-S cross-coupling reaction with the assistance of [Ce(l-Pro)2]2Ox as a heterogeneous catalyst in good to excellent yields. A scale-up of the protocol was explored using an unpublished methodology for the synthesis of a dapsone-precursor, which proved to be very effective over a short time. The catalyst [Ce(l-Pro)2]2Ox was recovered and it was shown to be effective for five more reaction cycles.

Abstract
A series of new organochalcogen derivatives of benzimidazo[1,2-a]quinolines were synthesized. Both sulfur and selenium derivatives presented similar photophysical properties with absorption in the UV region and fluorescence emission in the violet-blue.

Abstract
This study investigates Se-phenyl-thiazolidine-4-carboselenoate (Se-PTC) protective activity against oxidative and behavioral stress in the model of mania induced by ouabain (OUA) in male rats. The compound used was Se-PTC (50mg/kg) and the positive control LiCl (45mg/kg) was administered for intragastric route (i.g.) 30min prior to administration of OUA (10-5M). OUA was dissolved in artificial cerebrospinal fluid (aCSF) and administered at the 5μl through an intracerebroventricular (i.c.v) cannula. The pretreatment with Se-PTC was effective in preventing the increase in locomotor activity induced by OUA, however the positive control LiCl is capable to block crossing augmentation induced by OUA. Na+/K+-ATPase activity was significantly reduced in OUA group and the Se-PTC to normalize Na+/K+-ATPase activity. Pretreatment with Se-PTC protect against the increase in catalase activity and thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) content in the brain caused by OUA. Therefore, Se-PTC is effective against OUA-induced hyperactivity and alterations in brain oxidative status of rats.
