Abstract
In this study, a new Schiff base, (E)-2-(2-aminophenylthio)-N-(thiophen-2-yl-methylene) benzenamine was synthesized for selective detection of Hg2+. This Schiff base was characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR), carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (13CNMR), and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Binding interaction between (E)-2-(2-aminophenylthio)-N-(thiophen-2-yl-methylene)benzenamine and various metal ions has been studied by UV-Vis spectroscopic measurements and shows promising coordination towards Hg2+ and almost no interference from other metal ions (Ag+, Mn2+, Fe3+, Al3+, Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Fe2+ and Cr3+).This Schiff base exhibiting detection limit of 3.8 × 10- 8 M. The Schiff base newly synthesized in this study was successfully applied to the determination of Hg2+ in water samples. In addition to the experimental study, a theoretical study was conducted using Gaussian 09 program to support the experimental findings. FTIR, NMR, bond angle, bond length, torsional angles, and structural approximation were studied using theoretical consideration.

Abstract
Porphyrin (TMPyP) functionalized carbon quantum dots (CQDs-TMPyP), a novel and efficient carbon nanocomposite material, were developed as a novel luminescent material, which could be very useful for the sensitive detection of copper ions in the Cu2+ quenching luminescence of functionalized carbon quantum dots. Therefore, we constructed a sensitive "signal off" ECL biosensor for the detection of Cu2+. This sensor can sensitively respond to copper ions in the range of 10 nM to 10 μM, and the detection limit is 2.78 nM. At the same time, it has good selectivity and stability and a benign response in complex systems. With excellent properties, this proposed ECL biosensor provides an efficient and ultrasensitive method for Cu2+ detection.

Abstract
Exploring a new multi-responsive pyranone chemosensor capable of sensing copper ions specifically and selectively through colorimetric, UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence methods is of great importance. In this piece of work, a novel pyranone based Schiff base ligand 4-Hydroxy-6-methyl-3-[1-(2-morpholin-4-yl-ethylimino)-ethyl]-pyran-2-one (DM) was synthesized by the condensation of dehydroacetic acid and 4-(2-aminoethyl) morpholine. The structural determination of ligand DM was executed using distinct spectral techniques i.e.,1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR and HR-MS techniques. The reported Schiff base DM showed an immediate colorimetric change from pale yellow to colorless accompanied by a strong change in the UV-Vis absorption band onto the addition of Cu (II) ions. This metal ligand chelation leads a decrease in ICT process. Also the decrease in fluorescence emission intensity of Schiff base DM with Cu (II) ions addition showed its turn-off behavior towards copper ions. Further absorption/ emission titration studies, Job's plot, HR-MS and 1H NMR titration data designated 2:1 stoichiometric ratio between DM and Cu (II) ions respectively. Density functional theory studies were also performed to authenticate the binding mechanism theoretically. The sensitivity of Schiff base DM towards Cu (II) ions was applicable at every pH conditions and at the same time DM exhibited selectivity towards Cu (II) ions with a negligible interference of other metal ions. DM showed a detection limit of 7.7 nM towards copper ions via fluorescence emission studies. The best part about DM is that it has good stability but showed an instant chemical reversibility when titrated with EDTA solution.

Abstract
A new optical chemical sensor was fabricated based on incorporation of 2,2-furildioxime as a sensitive reagent into the nanopore of a transparent glasslike material through the sol-gel method which was suitable for determination of Ni2+ ions in aqueous solutions. The prepared sensors were composed of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), 2,2-furildioxime, methanol, hydrochloric acid and Triton X-100. The sensors were constructed by dip coating onto glass substrates. The optimum response of the sensor toward Ni2+ ions was reached at pH 8.5 and the contact time for the formation of the complex at 10 min. The linear concentration of the calibration curve was in the range of 1–5 mg L−1 with a detection limit of 0.111 mg L−1, and quantification limit of 0.337 mg L−1. In addition, the relative standard deviation (RSD) was less than 5% in determination of Ni2+ with ten slide sensor membranes. The developed sensor was tested on Ni2+ determination in real water samples which was confirmed by the atomic absorption spectrophotometer method.

Abstract
In this work, a new tridentate ligand, its some novel zinc halide/pseudohalide complexes and their antimicrobial and cytotoxic effects of them are described. Characterization data of these compounds have been achieved via several physical and micro analytical techniques. As typical one, X-ray crystal structure analysis of zinc azide complex was run showing zinc center is penta-coordinated by three nitrogen atoms from Schiff base ligand and two terminal azide nitrogen atoms as a distorted square pyramidal geometry. Hirshfeld surfaces analysis clears the important role of interactions related to azide groups (NH⋯N and CH⋯N hydrogen bonds) in the stabilization of its supramolecular structure. According to data obtained from thermal analysis (TG/DTG/DTA), all complexes are decomposed at four or more thermal stages below 1000 °C. Moreover antimicrobial activities of the compounds were screened against some gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Furthermore anticancer activities of the complexes were studied against MDA-MB468 and k562 as two cancer cell lines. In final, three zinc complexes were also synthesized in nano scale by sonochemical method and one of them was utilized as the precursor for preparation of nanostructure ZnO confirmed by XRD pattern and SEM image.

Abstract
Three-dimensional macroporous graphene-wrapped zero-valent copper nanoparticles (3D-GN@Cu0) were synthesized using a self-assembly process of liquid-phase reduction and characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectrum analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The catalytic activity of 3D-GN@Cu0 was evaluated in view of the effects of various systems, the pH value, catalyst dosage, initial metronidazole concentration and temperature, and it showed a high efficiency for removing metronidazole with saturated dissolved oxygen (without adding extra H2O2) in a wide range of pH value from 3.2 to 9.8. Combined with the results of dissolved oxygen activation, determination of reactive oxidizing species, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, the surface-bounded ·OHads formed by the reaction of the in situ generation H2O2 with 3D-GN@Cu0 was mainly responsible for the removal of metronidazole. The charge distribution and electrostatic potential (ESP) of 3D-GN@Cu0 further illustrated the distribution and transfer of electrons on the catalyst surface, which predicted a micro-electrolysis-promoted Fenton-like reaction mechanism.

Abstract
This work introduces novel selective and sensitive optical sensor based on a nano sized triazine based Schiff base (H2L) immbolized on a transparent glass substrate through the sol-gel process to detection of copper (II) ions in aqueous solutions. This sensor can determine the copper (II) in the range of 8.54 × 10-8-1.0 × 10-5 mol L-1 with a low detection limit of 1.53 × 10-8 mol L-1. The optimized geometry of H2L and its copper complex was obtained based on DFT/B3LYP levels of theory with B3LYP/6-311 + G(d,p) and LANL2DZ/6-311 + G(d,p) basis sets respectively. The calculated electronic properties of them including the molecular orbital, Mulliken population analysis, contour of electrostatic potential, and molecular electrostatic potential map confirmed the behavior of the sensor. Some advantage of the fabricated sensor such as high selectivity, sensitivity, short response time, easy production, fast regeneration, low cost, being portable and user friendly can make it a good choice to detection of Cu(II) ion in various application. The suggested sensor was revealed excellent sensitivity in the natural samples that confirmed by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass (ICP) spectrometry method.

Abstract
The present study has reported an optimized fabrication and application of a novel PVA/TEOS/Schiff base nanofibers membrane as a highly sensitive copper (II) ions in aqueous environment. Here in, for first time, an ultrasound-assisted synthesized symmetric Schiff base has been immobilized on a hybrid polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and TEOS using electrospinning technique for detection and filtration of copper ions. For this purpose, various working parameters were evaluated and finally the optimized nano fibers membrane was synthesized with 72 nm thickness and PVA/TEOS/Schiff base ratio of (wt%) 8:6:1. The optimized sample named PTLNFM has been employed successfully as an ultra sensitive chemosensor for Cu (II) detection in real samples. The immobilized Schiff base used as a chelating agent could detect copper (II) in the range from 9.34 × 10-8 to 1.15 × 10-5 mol L-1 with the following correlation equation: Absorbance = 0.066 [Cu2+] × 10-6 + 0.095 and R2 = 0.992 and LOD of 1.27 × 10-8 mol L-1 which was lower than most of the reported detection limits in the previous literatures. Validity of this method has been carried out by analysis of Cu2+ in real samples with satisfying recoveries of over 96.11-99.24%.The developed membrane could be offered for diverse use such as medical or industrial applications.

Abstract
The applicability of C44, B22N22, Ge44, and Al22P22 nanocages, as well as variants of those nanocages with an adsorbed halogen atom, as high-performance anode materials in Li-ion, Na-ion, and K-ion batteries was investigated theoretically via density functional theory. The results obtained indicate that, among the nanocages with no adsorbed halogen atom, Al22P22 would be the best candidate for a novel anode material for use in metal-ion batteries. Calculations also suggest that K-ion batteries which utilize these nanocages as anode materials would give better performance and would yield higher cell voltages than the corresponding Li-ion and Na-ion batteries with nanocage-based anodes. Also, the results for the nanocages with an adsorbed halogen atom imply that employing them as anode materials would lead to higher cell voltages and better metal-ion battery performance than if the nanocages with no adsorbed halogen atom were to be used as anode materials instead. Results further implied that nanocages with an adsorbed F atom would give higher cell voltages and better battery performance than nanocages with an adsorbed Cl or Br atom. We were ultimately able to conclude that a K-ion battery that utilized Al21P22 with an adsorbed F atom as its anode material would afford the best metal-ion battery performance; we therefore propose this as a novel highly efficient metal-ion battery. Graphical abstract The results of a theoretical investigation indicated that Al22P22 is a better candidate for a high-performance anode material in metal-ion batteries than Ge44 is. Calculations also showed that K-ion batteries with nanocage-based anodes would produce higher cell voltages and perform better than the equivalent Li-ion and Na-ion batteries with nanocage-based anodes, and that anodes based on nanocages with an adsorbed F atom would perform better than anodes based on nanocages with an adsorbed Cl or Br atom.
