Abstract
In this study, the binding tendency of bisnitrophenoxy compounds (BN) having different methylene (-CH2-)n spacer groups (n = 8-11) with fish sperm double stranded deoxyribonucleic acid (dsDNA) was explored. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was used to evaluate various kinetic and binding parameters (Ks,h, Do, K b and binding site sizes). Performed electrochemical studies designated strong contact of these symmetric molecules with dsDNA in threading intercalation mode of binding. The number (n) of methylene spacer group in the molecular structure of bisnitrophenoxy compounds, e.g., BN-8 (1-nitro-4-(8-(4-nitrophenoxy)octyloxy)benzene, was observed to have a strong influence on their binding affinity. Decreased peak current values and positively shifted peak potentials recorded via cyclic voltammetry clearly depicted that bisnitrophenoxy compounds can intercalate with dsDNA. Results demonstrated the following order of binding constants; K b (M-1): BN-8 (2.32 × 104) < BN-9 (5.73 × 104) < BN-10 (8.97 × 104) < BN-11 (17.34 × 104). The order of increasing binding sites from BN-8 (0.13) to BN-11 (1.38), revealed the maximum threading intercalation strength by bisnitrophenoxy compound having the longest methylene spacer (n = 11). Thermodynamic studies augmented the strong binding of BN-11 with dsDNA as compared to BN-8 because of the long-chain, -CH2- spacer in its structure. The spontaneity of dsDNA-binding was revealed by the negative ΔG values for interaction of all the compounds. Moreover, binding parameters from thermodynamic and kinetic studies also corresponded to the threading intercalation mode of interaction, which itself points to the potency of the envisioned drug-like molecules.

Abstract
The emission properties of norfloxacin, a quinolone antibiotic, in presence of salmon sperm DNA were studied at room temperature and in conditions of acid, alkaline and neutral pH. It was found that norfloxacin molecules are inserted between the DNA base pairs, as evidenced by the emission spectra features and the significant increases in relative viscosity of DNA by the addition of norfloxacin. The fluorescence quenching process was characterized by Stern-Volmer plots which display a positive deviation from the linearity. The analysis was performed in terms of the Stern-Volmer modified equations including both dynamic and static quenching. The use of the finite sink approximation model showed that the process of quenching of the norfloxacin fluorescence with DNA was diffusion limited, irrespective to the pH of the work solution. At the same time, relying on the formation of the ground state complex model and the sphere of action static quenching model, we concluded that the quenching reaction from the norfloxacin - DNA system is due to the combined effect of both dynamic and static quenching processes.

Abstract
In this study, an attempt has been made to study the interaction of a Zn(II) complex containing an antibiotic drug, ciprofloxacin, with calf thymus DNA using spectroscopic methods. It was found that Zn(II) complex could bind with DNA via intercalation mode as evidenced by: hyperchromism in UV-Vis spectrum; these spectral characteristics suggest that the Zn(II) complex interacts with DNA most likely through a mode that involves a stacking interaction between the aromatic chromophore and the base pairs of DNA. DNA binding constant (Kb = 1.4 × 104 M-1) from spectrophotometric studies of the interaction of Zn(II) complex with DNA is comparable to those of some DNA intercalative polypyridyl Ru(II) complexes 1.0 -4.8 × 104 M-1. CD study showed stabilization of the right-handed B form of DNA in the presence of Zn(II) complex as observed for the classical intercalator methylene blue. Thermodynamic parameters (ΔH < 0 and ΔS < 0) indicated that hydrogen bond and Van der Waals play main roles in this binding prose. Competitive fluorimetric studies with methylene blue (MB) dye have shown that Zn(II) complex exhibits the ability of this complex to displace with DNA-MB, indicating that it binds to DNA in strong competition with MB for the intercalation.

Abstract
New rhenium(I) tricarbonyl complexes with the quinolone antimicrobial agents oxolinic acid (Hoxo) and enrofloxacin (Herx) and containing methanol, triphenylphosphine (PPh3) or imidazole (im) as unidentate co-ligands, were synthesized and characterized. The crystal structure of complex [Re(CO)3(oxo)(PPh3)]∙0.5MeOH was determined by X-ray crystallography. The deprotonated quinolone ligands are bound bidentately to rhenium(I) ion through the pyridone oxygen and a carboxylate oxygen. The binding of the rhenium complexes to calf-thymus DNA (CT DNA) was monitored by UV spectroscopy, viscosity measurements and competitive studies with ethidium bromide; intercalation was suggested as the most possible mode and the DNA-binding constants of the complexes were calculated. The rhenium complex [Re(CO)3(erx)(im)] was assayed for its topoisomerase IIα inhibition activity and was found to be active at 100μM concentration. The interaction of the rhenium complexes with human or bovine serum albumin was investigated by fluorescence emission spectroscopy (through the tryptophan quenching) and the corresponding binding constants were determined. The tracer complex [(99m)Tc(CO)3(erx)(im)] was synthesized and identified by comparative HPLC analysis with the rhenium analog. The (99m)Tc complex was found to be stable in solution. Upon injection in healthy mice, fast tissue clearance of the (99m)Tc complex was observed, while both renal and hepatobiliary excretion took place. Preliminary studies in human K-562 erythroleukemia cells showed cellular uptake of the (99m)Tc tracer with distribution primarily in the cytoplasm and the mitochondria and less in the nucleus. These preliminary results indicate that the quinolone (99m)Tc/Re complexes show promise to be further evaluated as imaging or therapeutic agents.

Abstract
The binding mode and thermodynamic characteristics of the anticancer drug dacarbazine (Dac) with double and single stranded DNA were investigated in the absence and presence of Cu(II) using cyclic voltammetry, square wave voltammetry and fluorescence spectroscopy. The interaction of Dac and Dac-Cu(II) complex with dsDNA indicated their intercalation into the base stacking domain of dsDNA double helix and the strength of interaction is independent on the ionic strength. The interaction of Dac with dsDNA in the presence of Cu(II) leads to a much stronger intercalation. The interaction mode of Dac molecules with ssDNA is electrostatic attraction via negative phosphate on the exterior of the ssDNA with Dac. The binding constants, stoichiometric coefficients and thermodynamic parameters of Dac and Dac-Cu(II) complex with dsDNA and ssDNA were evaluated. Comparison of the mode interaction of Dac with dsDNA and ssDNA was discussed. The decrease of peak current of Dac was proportional to DNA concentration, which was applied for determination of dsDNA and ssDNA concentration.

Abstract
In this work we proposed a model for in vitro interaction of fenitrothion (FEN) with calf thymus-DNA by combination of multispectroscopic and two dimensional molecular modeling (ONIOM) methods. The circular dichroism results showed that FEN changes the conformation of B-DNA and caused some changes to C-DNA form. The FT-IR results confirmed a partial intercalation between FEN and edges of all base pairs. The competitive fluorescence, using methylene blue as fluorescence probe, in the presence of increasing amounts of FEN, revealed that FEN is able to release the non-intercalated methylene blue from the DNA. The weak chemical shift and peak broadening of (1)H NMR spectrum of FEN in the presence of DNA confirmed a non-intercalation mode. The (31)P NMR showed that FEN interacts more with DNA via its -NO2 moiety. The ONIOM, based on the hybridization of QM/MM (DFT, 6.31++G (d,p)/UFF) methodology, was also performed by Gaussian 2003 package. The results revealed that the interaction is base sequence dependent, and FEN interacts more with AT base sequences.

Abstract
Eu(III)-9-acridinecarboxylate (9-ACA) complex was synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity measurement, IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis, mass spectroscopy, (1)H-NMR, fluorescence and ultraviolet spectra. The results indicated that the composition of this complex is [Eu(III)-(9-ACA)(2)(NCS)(C(2)H(5)OH)(2)] 2.5 H(2)O and the oxygen of the carbonyl group coordinated to Eu(III). The interaction between the complex with nucleotides guanosine 5'- monophosphate (5'-GMP), adenosine 5'-diphosphates (5'-ADP), inosine (5'-IMP) and CT-DNA was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. The fluorescence intensity of Eu(III)-9-acridinecarboxylate complex was enhanced with the addition of CT-DNA. The effect of pH values on the fluorescence intensity of Eu(III) complex was investigated. Under experimental conditions, the linear range was 9-50 ng mL(-1) for calf thymus DNA (CT- DNA) and the corresponding detection limit was 5 ng mL(-1). The results showed that Eu(III)-(9-ACA)(2) complex binds to CT-DNA with stability constant of 2.41 × 10(4) M.

Abstract
A poly (tetrafluroethylene)-deoxyribonucleate acid (PTFE-DNA) film-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) has been fabricated. The electrochemical oxidation behaviors of morin as well as its interaction with DNA have been studied at PTFE-DNA film-modified GCE and bare GCE by electrochemical methods. This modified electrode shows an enhanced effectiveness towards the oxidation of morin. Importantly, as to the interaction between morin and DNA in solution, characteristic parameters such as the binding stoichiometry and association equilibrium constant according to the Hill model for cooperative binding have been determined on the basis of linear sweep voltammetry and chronocoulometry.
