Abstract
Adsorption of pure and mixtures of O(2) and N(2) on isolated single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) have been investigated at the subcritical (77 K) and different supercritical (273, 293, and 313 K) temperatures for the pressure range between 1 and 31 MPa using (N,V,T) Monte Carlo simulation. Both O(2) and N(2) gravimetric storage capacity exhibit similar behaviors, gas adsorption is higher on outer surface of tube, compared to the inner surface. Results are consistent with the experimental adsorption measurements. All adsorption isotherms for pure and mixture of O(2) and N(2) are characterized by type I (Langmuir shape), indicating enhanced solid-fluid interactions. Comparative studies reveal that, under identical conditions, O(2) adsorption is higher than N(2) adsorption, due to the adsorbate structure. Excess amount of O(2) and N(2) adsorption reach to a maximum at each temperature and specified pressure which can be suggested an optimum pressure for O(2) and N(2) storage. In addition, adsorptions of O(2) and N(2) mixtures have been investigated in two different compositions: (i) an equimolar gas mixture and (ii) air composition. Also, selectivity of nanotube to adsorption of O(2) and N(2) gases has been calculated for air composition at ambient condition.

Abstract
A novel algorithm for modeling the influence of the host lattice flexibility in molecular dynamics simulations is extended to chain-like molecules and mixtures. This technique, based on a Lowe-Andersen thermostat, maintains the advantages of both simplicity and efficiency. The same diffusivities and other properties of the flexible framework system are reproduced. Advantageously, the computationally demanding flexible host lattice simulations can be avoided. Using this methodology we study the influence of flexibility on diffusion of n-alkanes inside single-walled carbon nanotubes. Furthermore, results are shown for diffusion of two mixtures (methane-helium and ethane-butane). Using these results we investigate the accuracy of theories describing diffusion in the Knudsen regime. For the dynamics in carbon nanotubes the Knudsen diffusivities are much too low. The Smoluchowski model gives better results. Interestingly, the extended Smoluchowski model can reproduce our simulation results obtained with a rigid host lattice. We modify this model to also treat collisions with a flexible interface correctly. As the tangential momentum accommodation coefficient is needed for the theoretical models, we introduce a simple concept to calculate it.

Abstract
Partitioning and transport of water and small solutes into and through nanopores are important to a variety of chemical and biological processes and applications. Here we study water structure in negatively charged model cylindrical [carbon nanotube (CNT)-like] nanopores, as well as the partitioning of positive ions of increasing size (Na+, K+, and Cs+) into the pore interior using extensive molecular dynamics simulations. Despite the simplicity of the simulation system-containing a short CNT-like nanopore in water carrying a uniformly distributed charge of qpore=-ne surrounded by n (=0,...,8) cations, making the overall system charge neutral-the results provide new and useful insights on both the pore hydration and ion partitioning. For n=0, that is, for a neutral nanopore, water molecules partition into the pore and form single-file hydrogen-bonded wire spanning the pore length. With increasing n, water molecules enter the pore from both ends with preferred orientations, resulting in a mutual repulsion between oriented water molecules at the pore center and creating a cavity-like low density region at the center. For low negative charge densities on the pore, the driving force for partitioning of positive ions into the pore is weak, and no partitioning is observed. Increasing the pore charge gradually leads to partitioning of positive ions into the pore. Interestingly, over a range of intermediate negative charge densities, nanopores display both thermodynamic as well as kinetic selectivity toward partitioning of the larger K+ and Cs+ ions into their interior over the smaller Na+ ions. Specifically, the driving force is in the order K+>Cs+>Na+, and K+ and Cs+ ions enter the pore much more rapidly than Na+ ions. At higher charge densities, the driving force for partitioning increases for all cations-it is highest for K+ ions-and becomes similar for Na+ and Cs+ ions. The variation of thermodynamic driving force and the average partitioning time with the pore charge density together suggest the presence of free energy barriers in the partitioning process. We discuss the role of ion hydration in the bulk and in the pore interior as well as of the pore hydration in determining the barrier heights for ion partitioning and the observed thermodynamic and kinetic selectivities.

Abstract
Grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations are reported for low molecular weight perfluorocarbons (C2F6 and CF4) and their dilute (10% molar) mixtures in N2 adsorbing unto slitlike graphite pores. Adsorption isotherms and selectivity plots are shown for various temperatures, pressures, and pore widths. It is shown how selectivities on the order of thousands may be obtained when appropriate pore widths and thermodynamic conditions are used. Selective entrapment of these super greenhouse gases onto carbon nanopores is shown to be a promising alternative in the remediation of air streams.

Abstract
The influence of silicalite-1 pores on the reaction equilibria and the selectivity of the propene metathesis reaction system in the temperature range between 300 and 600 K and the pressure range from 0.5 to 7 bars has been investigated with molecular simulations. The reactive Monte Carlo (RxMC) technique was applied for bulk-phase simulations in the isobaric-isothermal ensemble and for two phase systems in the Gibbs ensemble. Additionally, Monte Carlo simulations in the grand-canonical ensemble (GCMC) have been carried out with and without using the RxMC technique. The various simulation procedures were combined with the configurational-bias Monte Carlo approach. It was found that the GCMC simulations are superior to the Gibbs ensemble simulations for reactions where the bulk-phase equilibrium can be calculated in advance and does not have to be simulated simultaneously with the molecules inside the pore. The confined environment can increase the conversion significantly. A large change in selectivity between the bulk phase and the pore phase is observed. Pressure and temperature have strong influences on both conversion and selectivity. At low pressure and temperature both conversion and selectivity have the highest values. The effect of confinement decreases as the temperature increases.
