Abstract
The syntheses and structures of a series of complexes based on the C∧C-chelated Au(III) unit (C∧C = 4,4'-bis(t-butyl) 2,2'-biphenyl-1,1'-diyl) are reported, namely, [{(C∧C)Au(C≡CtBu)2}2M2], (C∧C)Au(C≡CR)(C≡NXyl), and [{(C∧C)Au(C≡CR)2}{M(C≡NXyl)}] (M = Ag, Cu; R = tBu, C6H4tBu-4, C6H4OMe-4; Xyl = 3,5-Me2C6H3). The X-ray structures reveal a broad range of dispositions determined by the different coordination modes of Ag(I) or Cu(I). The complexes are bright photoemitters in the solid state and in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films. The photoluminescence is dominated by 3IL(C∧C) transitions, with indirect effects from the rest of the molecules, as supported by theoretical calculations. This work opens up the possibility of accessing Au(III) carbon-rich anions to construct photoluminescent aggregates.

Abstract

Alkynyl ligands stabilize
dimers [Ir(μ-X)(3b)2]2 with a cis disposition
of the heterocycles of the 3b
ligands, in contrast to chloride. Thus, the complexes of this class—cis-[Ir(μ2-η2-C≡CPh){κ2-C,N-(C6H4-Isoqui)}2]2 (Isoqui = isoquinoline)
and cis-[Ir(μ2-η2-C≡CR){κ2-C,N-(MeC6H3-py)}2]2 (R =
Ph, tBu)—have been prepared in
high yields, starting from the dihydroxo-bridged dimers trans-[Ir(μ-OH){κ2-C,N-(C6H4-Isoqui)}2]2 and trans-[Ir(μ-OH){κ2-C,N-(MeC6H3-py)}2]2 and terminal alkynes. Subsequently, the acetylide ligands
have been employed as building blocks to prepare the orange and green
iridium(III) phosphorescent emitters, Ir{κ2-C,N-[C(CH2Ph)Npy]}{κ2-C,N-(C6H4-Isoqui)}2 and Ir{κ2-C,N-[C(CH2R)Npy]}{κ2-C,N-(MeC6H3-py)}2 (R = Ph, tBu), respectively,
with an octahedral structure of fac carbon and nitrogen
atoms. The green emitter Ir{κ2-C,N-[C(CH2tBu)Npy]}{κ2-C,N-(MeC6H3-py)}2 reaches 100% of quantum
yield in both the poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) film and 2-MeTHF
at room temperature. In organic light-emitting diode (OLED) devices,
it demonstrates very saturated green emission at a peak wavelength
of 500 nm, with an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of over 12% or
luminous efficacy of 30.7 cd/A. Acetylide
ligands have been employed as building blocks
to prepare orange and green iridium(III) phosphorescent emitters,
with an octahedral structure of fac carbon and nitrogen
atoms. In OLED devices, the emitter Ir{κ2-C,N-[C(CH2tBu)Npy]}{κ2-C,N-(MeC6H3-py)}2 demonstrates
very saturated green emission at a peak wavelength of 500 nm, with
a luminous efficacy of 30.7 cd/A.

Abstract
The dialkyl malonate derived 1,3-diphosphines R2 C(CH2 PPh2 )2 (R=a, Me; b, Et; c, n-Bu; d, n-Dec; e, Bn; f, p-tolCH2 ) are combined with (p-tol3 P)2 PtCl2 or trans-(p-tol3 P)2 Pt((C≡C)2 H)2 to give the chelates cis-(R2 C(CH2 PPh2 )2 )PtCl2 (2 a-f, 94-69 %) or cis-(R2 C(CH2 PPh2 )2 )Pt((C≡C)2 H)2 (3 a-f, 97-54 %). Complexes 3 a-d are also available from 2 a-d and excess 1,3-butadiyne in the presence of CuI (cat.) and excess HNEt2 (87-65 %). Under similar conditions, 2 and 3 react to give the title compounds [(R2 C(CH2 PPh2 )2 )[Pt(C≡C)2 ]4 (4 a-f; 89-14 % (64 % avg)), from which ammonium salts such as the co-product [H2 NEt2 ]+ Cl- are challenging to remove. Crystal structures of 4 a,b show skew rhombus as opposed to square Pt4 geometries. The NMR and IR properties of 4 a-f are similar to those of mono- or diplatinum model compounds. However, cyclic voltammetry gives only irreversible oxidations. As compared to mono-platinum or Pt(C≡C)2 Pt species, the UV-visible spectra show much more intense and red-shifted bands. Time dependent DFT calculations define the transitions and principal orbitals involved. Electrostatic potential surface maps reveal strongly negative Pt4 C16 cores that likely facilitate ammonium cation binding. Analogous electronic properties of Pt3 C12 and Pt5 C20 homologs and selected equilibria are explored computationally.

Abstract
A dicopper complex featuring a symmetrically bridging nitrile ligand and supported by a binucleating naphthyridine-based ligand, [Cu2(μ-η 1 :η 1 -MeCN)DPFN](NTf2)2, was treated with phosphaalkynes (RC[triple bond, length as m-dash]P, isoelectronic analogues of nitriles) to yield dicopper complexes that exhibit phosphaalkynes in rare μ-η 2:η 2 binding coordination modes. X-ray crystallography revealed that these unusual "tilted" structures exist in two isomeric forms (R "up" vs. R "sideways"), depending on the steric profile of the phosphaalkyne's alkyl group (R = Me, Ad, or t Bu). Only one isomer is observed in both solution and the solid state for R = Me (sideways) and t Bu (up). With intermediate steric bulk (R = Ad), the energy difference between the two geometries is small enough that both are observed in solution, and NMR spectroscopy and computations indicate that the solid-state structure corresponds to the minor isomer observed in solution. Meanwhile, treatment of [Cu2(μ-η 1:η 1-MeCN)DPFN](NTf2)2 with 2-butyne affords [Cu2(μ-η 2:η 2-(MeC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CMe))DPFN](NTf2)2: its similar ligand geometry demonstrates that the tilted μ-η 2:η 2 binding mode is not limited to phosphaalkynes but reflects a more general trend, which can be rationalized via an NBO analysis showing maximization of π-backbonding.

Abstract
A series of cis-platinum(II) acetylide complexes containing two-photon-absorbing chromophores have been synthesized and characterized to explore the effects of stereochemistry on the nonlinear absorption properties. The molecules feature 4-(phenylethynyl)phenylethynylene (PE2), diphenylaminofluorene (DPAF), and benzothiazolylfluorene (BTF) ligands. The photophysical properties were investigated under one- and two-photon conditions and compared to the known trans analogues via UV-visible absorption, photoluminescence, femtosecond and nanosecond transient absorption (TA), nanosecond z-scan, and femtosecond two-photon absorption (2PA). The bent cis complexes exhibit blue shifts in the absorption, emission, femtosecond, and nanosecond TA spectra along with lower molar extinction coefficients and lower phosphorescence yields relative to the trans complexes suggesting less efficient Pt-induced spin-orbit coupling and intersystem crossing in the cis configuration. The cis chromophores are noncentrosymmetric and therefore show dipolar behavior with a pronounced 2PA in the 0-0 transition of the S0 → S1 band, while the trans complexes show quadrupolar behavior with a forbidden 0-0 transition. In the S0 → Sn region, both cis and trans complexes show intense two-photon-absorption bands (up to 3700 GM by the peak cross section for cis-BTF) which contain a significant contribution from the excited state absorption (S1 → Sn). All six complexes exhibit comparable nonlinear absorption response with a significant contribution from triplet-triplet absorption that slightly favors trans complexes but is more strongly dependent upon the structure of the π-conjugated chromophore.

Abstract
We report on the surface-guided synthesis of a dinuclear organocobalt complex, its self-assembly into a complex nanoarchitecture, and a single-molecule level investigation of its switching behavior. Initially, an organic layer is prepared by depositing hexakis((trimethylsilyl)ethynyl)-benzene under ultrahigh-vacuum conditions onto Ag(111). After Co dosage at 200 K, low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) reveals an epitaxy-mediated organization mechanism of molecules and on-surface formed organometallic complexes. The dinuclear complexes contain two bis(η2-alkynyl) π-tweezer motifs, each stabilizing a single Co atom and express two enantiomers due to a conformation twist. The chirality is transferred to the two-dimensional architecture, whereby its Co adatoms are located at the corners of a 3.4.6.4 rhombitrihexagonal tessellation due to the systematic arrangement and anchoring of the complexes. Extensive density functional theory simulations support our interpretation of an epitaxy-guided surface tessellation and its chiral character. Additionally, STM tip-assisted manipulation experiments on isolated dinuclear complexes reveal controlled and reversible switching between the enantiomeric states via inelastic electron processes. After activation by bias pulses, structurally modified complexes display a distinctive Kondo feature attributed to metastable Co configurations.

Abstract
Reaction of AlCl(3) with the monoanionic α-diimine ligand [NaL] yielded the complex [L˙(-)Al(III)Cl(2)(-)] (1, L = [(2,6-iPr(2)C(6)H(3))NC(Me)](2)), and subsequent reduction of by sodium metal afforded the mononuclear [L(2-)Al(III)Cl(-)(THF)] (2) and binuclear [L(2-)(THF)Al(II)-Al(II)(THF)L(2-)] (3). Compounds 2 and 3 exhibit interesting reactivities to sodium alkynides at room temperature. Treatment of dialumane 3 with 1 equiv. of 4-methylphenylacetylene in the presence of sodium metal yielded the asymmetric Al-Al-bonded compound [Na(Et(2)O)][LAl-Al(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C(C(6)H(4)-Me))L] (4) containing an alkynyl group attached to one of the Al atoms. The reaction of 2 with 4-methylphenylacetylene and Na (or sodium 4-methylphenylacetylide) resulted in the mononuclear product [L(THF)Al(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-(C(6)H(4)-Me))] (5) containing a single terminal acetylide ligand. Precursor 2 reacted with 2 equiv. of phenylacetylene (or 4-methylphenylacetylene, trimethylsilylacetylene) and Na to give the tweezer "ate" complexes, [Na(THF)(DME)][LAl(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CR)(2)] (R = C(6)H(5), ; C(6)H(4)-Me, ; Si(Me)(3), 6c), [Na(THF)](2)[LAl(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh)(2)](2)(μ-C(7)H(8)) (7), [Na(C(7)H(8))][(μ-Na)][LAl(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CSi(Me)(3))(2)](2) (8), as well as the polymeric [LAl(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh)(2)Na](n) (9). In the products, two alkynyl groups coordinate terminally to one Al center and a sodium ion is embedded between these two alkynyls. Interestingly, both cycloaddition and terminal acetylide coordination of three equiv. of alkyne occurred in the reaction of with 1-hexyne, resulting in the unique dialuminum complex [Na(Et(2)O)](2)[{L(C(C(4)H(9))[double bond, length as m-dash]CH)}Al(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C(C(4)H(9)))(2)](2) (10). Complexes 1-10 have been characterized by NMR ((1)H, (13)C) and IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and X-ray diffraction, and their electronic structures were studied by DFT calculations.

Abstract
The mol-ecular structure of (acetone-κO)tris-(μ-ferrocene-1,1'-dicarbo-nitrile-κ(2) N:N')dicopper(I) bis-(tetra-fluorido-borate) acetone monosolvate, [Cu2Fe3(C6H4N)6(C3H6O)](BF4)2·C3H6O, consists of two Cu(I) ions bridged by a ferrocene-1,1'-dicarbo-nitrile moiety in a paddle-wheel-architectured sandwich complex with two BF4 (-) units as counter-ions. One of the latter is equally disordered over two sets of sites. The two Cu(I) ions are complexed in a trigonal-planar manner by three nitrile N-donor atoms. Further inter-actions by the O atom of an acetone mol-ecule to one of the Cu(I) atoms and a weak η(2),π-inter-action of two atoms of a cyclo-penta-dienyl ring to the other Cu(I) atom complete a distorted trigonal-pyramidal environment for each of the metal ions. A further acetone mol-ecule is also present as a solvent mol-ecule. The crystal packing is consolidated by several π-π inter-actions.

Abstract
Three copper-N9-modified guanine complexes are reported with structures ranging from a discrete trinuclear motif to a mixed-valence coordination polymer. These complexes were used as precursors for the deposition and growth of copper oxide thin films on Si(100), at two different annealing temperatures, by using a CVD technique. Subsequent resistivity measurements suggest the formation of conductive thin films, raising the possibility of using nucleobase-metal complexes as versatile thin film precursors.

Abstract
Eight new silver(I) trifluoroacetate complexes based on a series of designed ligands, each featuring an alicyclic ring with enediyne functionality, have been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Each ethynide terminal is inserted into an Agn (n = 4-5) basket, leading to the generation of coordination chain or layer structures, but the well shielded ethenyl group does not take part in silver-olefin bonding. Variation in ring size of the alicycles is shown to influence the construction of the organosilver(I) coordination networks, which are consolidated by weak intermolecular interactions in the crystal structures. The effect of adding ancillary N-donor ligands to the reaction system on the coordination and supramolecular network assembly is also investigated.

Abstract
Cobalt-mediated decarboxylative Glaser-like C–C bond coupling of carboxylates has been studied in the gas phase using collision-induced dissociation (CID) multistage mass spectrometry (MSn) experiments. Both the identity of the carboxylate RCO2– (R = Me, HC≡C, MeC≡C, and PhC≡C) and the nuclearity of the complex ([CoCl(O2CR)2]– versus [Co2Cl3(O2CR)2]–) play a role in the types of reactions observed and their relative activation energies. In the first stage of CID, the mononuclear complex [CoCl(O2CMe)2]– undergoes decarboxylation, while the dinuclear [Co2Cl3(O2CMe)2]– undergoes cluster fission to yield [CoCl3]–; all acetylenic carboxylate complexes [CoCl(O2CR)2]– and [Co2Cl3(O2CR)2]– undergo decarboxylation. Isolation of the decarboxylated products followed by a second stage of CID results in a second decarboxylation event for all systems except for [CoCl(Me)(O2CMe)]–, which undergoes bond homolysis. In the final stage of CID, all acetylenic complexes undergo Glaser coupling, forming reduced Co anions. Overall dinuclear cobalt clusters are superior to mononuclear complexes at promoting decarboxylation and reductive coupling. The order of reactivity among the acetylide ligands is PhC≡C > MeC≡C > HC≡C.

Abstract
The chemistry and reactivity of ethyne-1,2-diyl compounds, LnM–CC–MLn, is reviewed. These complexes are simple analogues of organic alkynes, or dimetalloalkynes, and there appears to be no general route to the preparation of these complexes, except perhaps using acid/base methodology. Reactivity patterns, in general, mimic those of simple organic alkynes but have the added dimension of reactive M–C(sp) bonds that sometimes participate in the formation of multimetallic compounds with metal electrophiles.
