Abstract
Through the condensation of isatin (indoline-2, 3-dione) and aniline in a 1:1 ratio, a Schiff base ligand was synthesized and characterized via (1H-NMR, mass, IR, UV-Vis) spectra. Elemental analyses, spectroscopy (1H-NMR, mass, UV-Vis), magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity, mass spectra, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and thermal analysis have all been used to characterize a series of Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) metal complexes derived from the titled ligand. The metal-to-ligand ratio is 1:1, according to the analytical data. The Schiff base ligand displayed bidentate behavior with NO coordination sites when it bonded to metal ions, as seen by the IR spectra. The magnetic moment measurement and UV-Vis spectral investigation showed the octahedral geometry of the Cr(III), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) complexes, whereas they suggested the tetrahedral geometry of the Mn(II), Cu(II), and Cd(II) complexes. The thermal analysis study confirmed the presence of both hydrated and coordinated water molecules in all the compounds, except for the Mn(II) complex, and showed that the complexes decomposed in three or five decomposition steps leaving the corresponding metal oxide as a residue. The ligand and its metal complexes' antibacterial efficacy were evaluated. The findings showed that the metal complexes had stronger antibacterial properties than the ligand alone. The ligand and its metal complexes' anticancer properties were also investigated. A DFT investigation is also reported to gather information regarding the electronic features of the ligand and its metal complexes. Finally, drug-likeness and ADME characteristics were also calculated as parameters.

Abstract
The main aim of our research was to investigate antiadhesive and antibiofilm properties of nanocrystalline apatites doped and co-doped with noble metal ions (Ag+, Au+, and Pd2+) against selected drug-resistant strains of Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus. The materials with the structure of apatite (hydroxyapatite, nHAp; hydroxy-chlor-apatites, OH-Cl-Ap) containing 1 mol% and 2 mol% of dopants and co-dopants were successfully obtained by the wet chemistry method. The majority of them contained an additional phase of metallic nanoparticles, in particular, AuNPs and PdNPs, which was confirmed by the XRPD, FTIR, UV-Vis, and SEM-EDS techniques. Extensive microbiological tests of the nanoapatites were carried out determining their MIC, MBC value, and FICI. The antiadhesive and antibiofilm properties of the tested nanoapatites were determined in detail with the use of fluorescence microscopy and computer image analysis. The results showed that almost all tested nanoapatites strongly inhibit adhesion and biofilm production of the tested bacterial strains. Biomaterials have not shown any significant cytotoxic effect on fibroblasts and even increased their survival when co-incubated with bacterial biofilms. Performed analyses confirmed that the nanoapatites doped and co-doped with noble metal ions are safe and excellent antiadhesive and antibiofilm biomaterials with potential use in the future in medical sectors.

Abstract
A series of different substituted terpyridine (tpy)-based ligands have been synthesized by Kröhnke method. Their binding behaviour was evaluated by complexing them with Co(II), Fe(II) and Zn(II) ions, which resulted in interesting coordination compounds with formulae, [Zn(tpy)2]PF6, [Co(tpy)2](PF6)2, [Fe(tpy)2](PF6)2 and interesting spectroscopic properties. Their absorption and emission behaviours in dilute solutions were investigated in order to explain structure-property associations and demonstrate the impact of different aryl substituents on the terpyridine scaffold as well as the role of the metal on the complexes. Photo-luminescence analysis of the complexes in acetonitrile solution revealed a transition from hypsochromic to bathochromic shift. All the compounds displayed remarkable photo-luminescent properties and various maximum emission peaks owing to the different nature of the functional groups. Furthermore, the anti-microbial potential of ligands and complexes was evaluated with docking analyses carried out to investigate the binding affinity of terpyridine-based ligands along with corresponding proteins (shikimate dehydrogenase and penicillin-binding protein) binding sites. To obtain further insight into molecular orbital distributions and spectroscopic properties, density functional theory calculations were performed for representative complexes. The photophysical activity and interactions between chromophore structure and properties were both investigated experimentally as well as theoretically.

Abstract
The prevalence of antibiotic resistance has resulted in the need for new approaches to be developed to combat previously easily treatable infections. The main aim of this work was to establish the potential of the synthetic α-diimine chromium(III) and ruthenium(II) complexes (where the α-diimine ligands are bpy = 2,2-bipyridine, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, and dppz = dipyrido[3,2-a:2′,3′-c]-phenazine) like [Cr(phen)3]3+, [Cr(phen)2(dppz)]3+, [Ru(phen)3]2+, and [Ru(bpy)3]2+ as antibacterial agents by generating oxidative stress. The [Cr(phen)3]3+ and [Cr(phen)2(dppz)]3+ complexes showed activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) ranging from 0.125 μg/mL to 1 μg/mL, while [Ru(phen)3]2+ and [Ru(bpy)3]2+ do not exhibit antimicrobial activity against the two bacterial genera studied at the concentration range used. When ciprofloxacin was combined with [Cr(phen)3]3+ for the inhibition of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, an important synergistic effect was observed, FIC 0.066 for S. aureus and FIC 0.064 for E. coli. The work described here shows that chromium(III) complexes are bactericidal for S. aureus and E. coli. Our results indicate that α-diimine chromium(III) complexes may be interesting to open new paths for metallodrug chemotherapy against different bacterial genera since some of these complexes have been found to exhibit remarkable antibacterial activities.

Abstract
The interaction of Zn(II) with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug tolfenamic acid leads to the formation of the structurally characterized trinuclear [Zn(3)(tolfenamato)(6)(CH(3)OH)(2)] complex. In the presence of the N,N'-donor heterocyclic ligands 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2'-bipyridine at a range of ratios, the mononuclear Zn complexes of the general formulae [Zn(tolfenamato)(N,N'-donor)Cl] and [Zn(tolfenamato)(2)(N,N'-donor)] have been isolated and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography. The deprotonated tolfenamato ligands are coordinated to the Zn(II) ion through carboxylato oxygen atoms. Tolfenamic acid and its complexes exhibit good binding propensity to human or bovine serum albumin protein having relatively high binding constant values.

Abstract
The copper(II) complexes with the first-generation quinolone antibacterial agent flumequine(Hflmq) in the presence or absence of the nitrogen donor heterocyclic ligands 2,2'-bipyridylamine(bipyam), 2,2'-bipyridine(bipy), 1,10-phenanthroline(phen) or pyridine(py) have been synthesized and characterized. Flumequine acts as bidentate ligand coordinated to Cu(II) atom through the pyridone oxygen and a carboxylato oxygen. The crystal structures of the complexes [Cu(flmq)(bipyam)Cl], [Cu(flmq)(bipy)Cl] and [Cu(flmq)(phen)Cl] have been determined by X-ray crystallography revealing a distorted square pyramidal geometry for Cu(II) atom. The interaction of the complexes with bovine or human serum albumin proteins has been studied by fluorescence spectroscopy revealing their good binding propensity to the proteins with relatively high binding constant values. UV study of the interaction of the complexes with calf-thymus DNA (CT DNA) has shown that they bind to CT DNA and [Cu(flmq)(2)(py)(2)] exhibits the highest binding constant to CT DNA. The cyclic voltammograms of the complexes have shown that in the presence of CT DNA the complexes can bind to CT DNA by the intercalative binding mode which has also been verified by DNA solution viscosity measurements. Competitive study with ethidium bromide(EB) has shown that the complexes can displace the DNA-bound EB indicating that they bind to DNA in strong competition with EB.

Abstract
The new complexes of moxifloxacin (MOX), with Ti(IV), Y(III), Pd(II) and Ce(IV) have been synthesized. These complexes were then characterized by melting point, magnetic studies and spectroscopic techniques involving infrared spectra (IR), UV-Vis, (1)H NMR. C, H, N and halogen elemental analysis and thermal behavior of complexes also investigated. The results suggested that the molar ratio for all complexes is M: MOX=1:2 where moxifloxacin acts as a bidentate via one of the oxygen atoms of the carboxylate group and through the ring carbonyl group and the complexes have the following formula [Ti(MOX)(2)](SO(4))(2)·7H(2)O, [Y(MOX)(2)Cl(2)]Cl·12H(2)O, [Pd(MOX)(2)(H(2)O)(2)]Cl(2)·6H(2)O and [Ce(MOX)(2)](SO(4))(2)·2H(2)O. The activation energies, E*, enthalpies, ΔH*, entropies, ΔS* and Gibbs free energies, ΔG*, of the thermal decomposition reactions have been derived from thermogravimetric (TGA) and differential thermogravimetric (DrTG) curves, using Coats-Redfern (CR) and Horowitz-Metzger (HM) methods. The antimicrobial activity of these complexes has been evaluated against three Gram-positive and three Gram-negative bacteria and compared with the reference drug moxifloxacin. The antibacterial activity of Ti(IV) complex is significant for E. coli K32 and highly significant for S. aureus K1, B. subtilis K22, Br. otitidis K76, P. aeruginosa SW1 and K. oxytoca K42 compared with free moxifloxacin.

Abstract
Coordination of neutral bidentate ligand to copper ion in combination with gatifloxacin have been focused in this article. The effect of complexation reflects antibacterial activity, DNA interaction and SOD mimic activity of individual greatly. The geometry at the central metal ion provides a site for binding of superoxide anion responsible for better SOD mimic behaviour.

Abstract
Three novel neutral mononuclear copper(II) complexes of the third-generation quinolone antibacterial drug sparfloxacin in the presence of a nitrogen donor heterocyclic ligand 2,2'-bipyridine, 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2'-dipyridylamine have been prepared and characterized physicochemically and spectroscopically. The resultant complexes are of the type Cu(sparfloxacinato)(N-donor)Cl. Copper(II) is pentacoordinate having a distorted square pyramidal geometry. Molecular modeling calculations have been performed in order to propose the lowest energy model structure of the complexes. The interaction of the complexes with calf-thymus DNA has been investigated with diverse spectroscopic techniques and has shown that the complexes can bind to calf-thymus DNA by the intercalative mode. The antimicrobial activity of the complexes has been tested on three different microorganisms. The Cu(sparfloxacinato)(N-donor)Cl complexes are among the most active ones against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus, when compared to the other corresponding copper-quinolone complexes studied by our group and their antimicrobial activity is increased in the order bipyam<bipy=phen. We have also shown that two of the Cu(sparfloxacinato)(N-donor)Cl complexes have decreased the viability of human leukemia cells HL-60 in a time-dependent manner.
