Acute scrotal pain in children represents a major diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. An important initial differentiation should be made between epididymitis and other processes that cause acute scrotal pain, such as testicular torsion and tumor. Infectious agents disseminating through the blood flow can damage the testis by causing orchitis. On the other hand, infections ascending via spermatic pathways typically lead to epididymitis [ 1 ].

Splenic injury presenting with isolated scrotal findings in a stable newborn

Splenic injury in a newborn is a rare occurrence. It typically presents as an acute abdomen in an unstable patient. The authors present a case of splenic injury in a stable newborn infant with isolated scrotal findings. Workup included a testicular ultrasound scan with colorflow Doppler as well as abdominal and pelvic computerized tomography. The patient was treated nonoperatively with serial hematocrits and examinations and was discharged home after a brief hospital course.

Undescended testicle and a meconium-filled hemiscrotum: prenatal ultrasound appearance

We report a case of a meconium-filled hemiscrotum detected by prenatal ultrasound and misdiagnosed as in-utero testicular torsion. Over the 2 months that the mass was followed, the ultrasound characteristics and size changed significantly. Imaging immediately after birth and early surgical treatment resulted in a favorable outcome.
