Abstract
Herein, a new pincer-like amino phosphine donor ligand, H2L1, and its phosphine-oxide analog, H2L2, were synthesized. Subsequently, cobalt(II) complexes 1 and 2 were synthesized by the reaction of anhydrous Co(II)Cl2 with ligands H2L1 and H2L2, respectively. The ligands and complexes were fully characterized by various physicochemical and spectroscopic characterization techniques. Finally, the identity of the complexes 1 and 2 was confirmed by single crystal X-ray structure determination. The phosphine ligand containing complex 1 was converted to the phosphine oxide ligand containing complex 2 in air in acetonitrile solution. Both complexes 1 and 2 were investigated as precatalysts for alcohol dehydrogenation-triggered synthesis of imines in air. The phosphine-oxide complex 2 was more efficient than the phosphine complex 1. A wide array of alcohols and amines were successfully reacted in a mild condition to result in imines in good to excellent yields. Precatalyst 2 was also highly efficient for the synthesis of varieties of quinolines in air. As H2L2 in 2 has side arms that can be deprotonated, we investigated complex 2 for its base (KOtBu) promoted deprotonation events by various spectroscopic studies and DFT calculations. These studies have shown that mono deprotonation of the amine side arm attached to the pyridine is quite feasible, and deprotonation of complex 2 leads to a dearomatized pyridyl ring containing complex 2a. The mechanistic investigations of the catalytic reaction, by a combination of experimental and computational studies, have suggested that the dearomatized complex, 2a acted as an active catalyst. The reaction proceeded through the hydride transfer pathway. The activation barrier of this step was calculated to be 26.5 kcal/mol, which is quite consistent with the experimental reaction temperature under aerobic conditions. Although various pincer-like complexes are explored for such reactions, phosphine oxide ligand-containing complexes are still unexplored.

Abstract
FR901464 and thailanstatins are potent cytotoxic natural products that share an amine-containing tetrahydropyran ring. We previously reported the synthesis of the tetrahydropyran component. Here, we changed the protecting group for the amine from Boc to tosyl, improving yields and the time economy. A highlight of the revised synthetic scheme is the use of lithium, t-butanol, and ethylenediamine in THF (nontraditional Birch reduction conditions) for the N-detosylation.

Abstract
As the "chemical chameleon", sulfonyl-containing compounds and their variants have been merged with various types of reactions for the efficient construction of diverse molecular architectures by taking advantage of their incredible reactive flexibility. Currently, their involvement in radical transformations, in which the sulfonyl group typically acts as a leaving group via selective C-S, N-S, O-S, S-S, and Se-S bond cleavage/functionalization, has facilitated new bond formation strategies which are complementary to classical two-electron cross-couplings via organometallic or ionic intermediates. Considering the great influence and synthetic potential of these novel avenues, we summarize recent advances in this rapidly expanding area by discussing the reaction designs, substrate scopes, mechanistic studies, and their limitations, outlining the state-of-the-art processes involved in radical-mediated desulfonylation and related transformations. With a specific emphasis on their synthetic applications, we believe this review will be useful for medicinal and synthetic organic chemists who are interested in radical chemistry and radical-mediated desulfonylation in particular.

Abstract
Phenols can be efficiently reduced by sodium formate and Pd/C as the catalyst in water and in the presence of amines to give the corresponding cyclohexylamines. This reaction works at rt for 12 h or at 60 °C under microwave dielectric heating for 20 min. With the exception of aniline, primary, secondary amines, amino alcohols, and even amino acids can be used as nucleophiles. The reductive process is based on a sustainable hydrogen source and a catalyst that can be efficiently recovered and reused. The protocol was developed into a continuous-flow production of cyclohexylamines in gram scale achieving very efficient preliminary results (TON 32.7 and TOF 5.45 h(-1)).

Abstract
A series of macrocyclic imides and Schiff-bases have been prepared via the cyclocondensation of pyridine-2,6-dicarbonyl dichloride (1) with L-ornithine methyl ester to give the corresponding macrocyclic bisester 2. Treatment of 2 with hydrazine hydrate gave macrocyclic bisacid hydrazide 3, which was used as starting material. Condensation of bishydrazide 3 with diacid anhydrides or aromatic aldehydes in refluxing acetic acid or ethanol gave the corresponding macrocyclic bisimides 4, 5a,b and macrocyclic bis- hydrazones 6a–j, respectively. The structure assignments of the new compounds were based on chemical and spectroscopic evidence. The antimicrobial screening showed that many of these newly synthesized compounds have good antimicrobial activities, comparable to ampicillin and ketaconazole used as reference drugs.

Abstract
Sulfonated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) as a new and facile one-pot method using acetylene (as the CNT precursor), thiophene (as the sulfur precursor), and ferrocene (for in situ liberation of metal nanoparticles as the CNT nanocatalyst). A low catalytic amount of the resulting sulfonated MWCNTs with a turnover number (TON) up to 980 and a turnover frequency (TOF) up to 11 160 h–1 was utilized as a new and recyclable heterogeneous nanocatalyst for the efficient one-pot synthesis of various amines (secondary and tertiary) by direct reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones using NaBH4. The catalyst was easily isolated from the reaction mixture by simple filtration and reused at least five times without significant degradation in activity.

Abstract
N-N bond cleavage in hydrazines is widely used in the preparation of amines and thus occupies a significant place in organic synthesis. In this paper, we report a new method for the reductive cleavage of N-N bonds in hydrazines by commercially available and cheap aqueous titanium(III) trichloride. The reaction proceeds smoothly under a broad pH range from acidic to neutral and basic conditions to afford amines in good yields. This method is compatible with substrates containing functionalities such as C-C double bonds, benzyl-nitrogen bonds, benzyloxy and acyl groups.

Abstract
One-pot reductive mono-N-alkylation of aniline and nitroarene derivatives using various aldehydes by Pd/C catalyst in aqueous 2-propanol solvent with ammonium formate as in situ hydrogen donor is illustrated. The reaction proceeded smoothly and selectively with excellent yield at room temperature. Our protocol presents a facile, economical, and environmentally benign alternative for reductive amination.
