Abstract
This study focused on the enhanced debromination of decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) and 2,2',4,4'-tetrabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-47) by Fe-Ag nano-particles under microwave radiation (Fe-Ag/MW). Fe-Ag bimetallic nano-particles were synthesized by reductive deposition of Ag on nano-iron and characterized with a number of techniques, including BET, XRD, TEM and XPS. Approximately 97% of BDE-209 or 78% of BDE-47 were rapidly transformed to its degradation products within 8 min in the Fe-Ag/MW system. The dehalogenation efficiency of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) was enhanced apparently by microwave radiation. Moreover, the microwave thermal energy played a significant role in accelerating the degradation reactions. Compared with nano-iron alone, the deposition of Ag also increased the rates of degradation. GC-MS and LC-MS/MS analyses of PBDEs' degradation products reveals that the possible degradation pathway proceeds through stepwise debromination from [n]-bromo- to [n-1]-bromo-DE, with bromine being substituted by hydrogen sequentially. Di- to nona-brominated congeners were formed during BDE-209 reduction, while diphenyl ether to tri-BDEs were observed during BDE-47 degradation. These results suggest that PBDEs can be debrominated rapidly by the innovative processes that may be environmentally friendly in applications.

Abstract
In this work, a novel combined system by Fe-Ag or Fe-Ni nanoparticles and microwave (MW) radiation were used for the debromination of tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in aqueous solutions. Core-shell structure bimetallic nanoparticles were prepared by replacement reaction in liquid phase and then characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. MW radiation can enhance the degradation of TBBPA by Fe-Ag or Fe-Ni observably. The rate of reduction reactions for bimetallic nanoparticles under MW were first compared with those under conventional heating conditions. Compared with nano-iron, the deposition of Ag or Ni also accelerated the debromination, and Fe-Ag was more reactive than Fe-Ni toward TBBPA reduction. Removal efficiencies increased with increasing Fe-Ag dosage and MW energy level. Major reduction products of TBBPA identified by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) were tri-BBPA, di-BBPA, mono-BBPA, and BPA, which indicated a stepwise debromination process. It provides an effective technology for TBBPA laden wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Since 1988, we have pursued enabling technologies and methods as tools for ‘green’ synthetic chemistry. The developed technologies comprise hardware including catalytic membranes and continuous and batch microwave reactors that have established global markets, as well as interactive, predictive software for optimization of yields and translation of conditions. New methods include ‘green’ reactions such as a catalytic symmetrical etherification, Pd-catalyzed coupling processes and a multi-component cascade for aniline derivatives. Reactions and workup were facilitated through solvent-free conditions, aqueous media at high temperature and dimethylammonium dimethylcarbamate (dimcarb) as a ‘distillable’ protic ionic liquid, as well as by non-extractive techniques for product isolation. The technologies and methods were designed for use alone or in various combinations as desired. Consolidation of individual operations or processes into unit steps was achieved through multi-tasking: media, reactants, catalysts, and conditions were selected to serve several purposes at various stages of a reaction. The tools were used to establish a technology platform comprising structurally diverse oligomers, macrocycles, and rod-like molecules supplementary to those available through phenol-formaldehyde chemistry. Dienone precursors were assembled from versatile building blocks containing complementary ‘male’ or ‘female’ fittings that were connected through inherently ‘green’ Claisen–Schmidt-type reactions. Isoaromatization afforded Horning-crowns, macrocyclic phenolic derivatives that were hybrids of calixarenes and crown ethers. Preliminary studies of organic substrates in salt water, with and without CO2, called into question proposals for disposal of anthropogenic CO2 by deep-sea dispersal.

Abstract
Based on the earlier results of our in-house database and compound library, a series of novel clubbed thienyl triazoles was designed which may emerge as potential cdk5/p25 inhibitors, for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. A benign synthesis was planned so as to take an advantage of MAOS (Microwave Assisted Organic Synthesis) method. Evaluation of the SAR of this series has allowed the identification of compounds 4, 5, 7 and 8 from series I while 13, 14, 16 and 17 from series II as significant cdk5/p25 inhibitors and thus have potential as possible treatments for Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract
A facile, dry media procedure has been developed for the synthesis of a series of a new class of fluorine containing 3-alkyl-7-chloro-11a,12-dihydro-11-phenyl-12-(substituted aryl)-11H-benzopyrano[4,3-e][1,2,4]-triazolo[3,4-b][1,3,4]-thiadiazepines (4a-k) under microwaves using basic alumina as solid support. The reaction time has been brought down from hours (60-65 h) to minutes (3-5 min) with improved yield as compared to conventional method, demonstrating the versatility of the process. The method reported herein is devoid of the hazards of solution-phase reactions. The synthesized compounds have been screened 'in vitro' for anti-fungal activity against Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium oxysporum and Collectotrichum capsici. Most of the compounds have shown good activity against these pathogens.

Abstract
This review presents a survey of the condensations of 3-formylchromone with various active methylene and methyl compounds, e.g. malonic or barbituric acid derivatives, five-membered heterocycles, etc. The utilisation of the condensation products for the synthesis of different heterocyclic systems, which is based on the ability of the gamma-pyrone ring to be opened by the nucleophilic attack is also reviewed. Finally, the applications of microwave irradiation as an unconventional method of reaction activation in the synthesis of condensation products is described and the biological activity of some chromone derivatives is noted.

Abstract
Reaction of 7-amino-3-[5'-methyl-1',3',4'-thiadiazol-2'-ylthiomethyl]cephalo-sporanic acid with heterocyclic amines using basic alumina under microwave irradiation (MWI) afforded new cephalosporin analogs in shorter reaction time with improved yield as compared to conventional heating. All the synthesised compounds were tested for their in vitro antibacterial activity, using cefotaxime and cephalothin as reference drugs. All compounds showed significant in vitro antibacterial activity against E. herbicola, P. vulgaries, and Z. mobilis.

Abstract
An environmentally benign and economic synthesis of 1,2,4-triazolo[3,4-b]-1,3,4-thiadiazepines is described from readily accessible substituted 2-mercapto-1-amino triazoles and substituted chalcones on basic alumina that are accelerated by exposure to microwaves. The reaction time has been brought down from hours to seconds with improved yield as compared to conventional heating. The method reported herein is devoid of the hazards of solution phase reactions. All the synthesised compounds were tested for their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activity. Some compounds showed significant antimicrobial properties. The best activity was observed with compounds 3a, 3c, 4a and 4d.
