Case report on Irritational Fibroma

Traumatic or irritation fibroma is the healed end product of the inflammatory hyperplastic lesion, which can occur at any age from almost any softtissue site, tongue, gingiva, and buccal mucosa being the most common. It is usually characterized by a slow, painless growth accumulated over a period of months or years.

Electro-surgical management of a traumatic fibroma with clinical assessment of re-epithelialization using methylene blue assay: A clinico-histopathological case report

This article addresses the clinical presentation, diagnosis, histological features, and management of a case of fibroma. Fibroma is proliferative fibrotic lesions of the gingiva and oral mucosa, which may cause aesthetic and functional problems. Fibrous hyperplasia and fibroepithelial hyperplasia are histological alternates of these nonneoplastic lesions. The case demonstrated an overgrowth in the lower back tooth region. The growth was pale in color, sessile, painless, and firm in consistency. The lesion caused discomfort when chewing food, the lesion was excised using dental electrocautery and sent for histopathological assessment. This lesion was caused by trauma or persistent irritation, and histological examination indicates that the cells in the lesion are from the oral mucous membrane. This case demonstrates the need for proper diagnosis, the role of biopsy, and histologic evaluation in the management of fibrotic lesions.

Atypical Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma of the Mandible

Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a benign localized lesion originating from gingival and alveolar oral mucosa. Its origin can be cells of periodontal ligament. The lesions usually develop in women in their twenties. POF is a complex clinical and histological diagnosis due to its shared characteristics with many other conditions. In this paper, we presented a case of an atypical peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) in the left lateral part of the mandible in a 70-year-old male patient who had two semicircular bridges supported on four implants in the upper and lower jaws. A review of CBCT and orthopedic imaging showed no visible intraosseous changes. Histological analysis revealed the diagnosis of POF. The case in question is interesting, as elaborated on in the discussion section of this paper because POF is usually found in female patients aged between 20 and 30 years.

An Unusually Large Irritation Fibroma Associated with Gingiva of Lower Left Posterior Teeth Region

Fibroma is a benign tumor of oral cavity, with usually the tongue, gingiva, and buccal mucosa being the most common sites. Females are twice more likely to develop fibroma than males. The intraoral fibroma typically is well demarcated; and its size can vary from millimeter to few centimeters. Intraorally the growth is attached to the mucosa by means of a peduncle. Fibroma is generally slow growing, painless, smooth surface lesion and the color is slightly paler than the adjacent healthy tissue. Treatment usually requires total excision and recurrence is rare. Here we present a case of 37-year-old female patient reported to the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology with the chief complaint of a growth in the lower left posterior teeth region 3 months earlier.

Multicentric peripheral ossifying fibroma: A case report and review of the literature

A peripheral cement-ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous lesion of a reactive rather than a neoplastic nature, whose pathogenesis is uncertain. It predominantly affects adolescents and young adults, with the peak prevalence between 10 and 19 years, especially affecting females (two to four times more). Such lesions are commonly found on the maxillary bone. We hereby present and discuss a unique case of multicentric Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma (POF) affecting both the maxillary and the mandibular gingiva in an 11-year-old boy, with a disease duration of two months. This case is probably one of the first few cases discovered, which demonstrates that there may be a multicentric variant of the Peripheral Ossifying Fibroma. The purpose of this article is to present a case of POF and to briefly review the current literature on this condition.
