Mosaicism trisomy 10 in a 14-month-old child with additional neurological abnormalities: case report and literature review

Background

Trisomy 10 is very rarely diagnosed, especially in living persons. Most reports of trisomy 10 pertain to prenatal diagnosis of trisomy 10 in the fetus. In addition, trisomy 10 has been reported as part of partial chromosomal abnormalities in some leukemic cells and tumor specimens. Only 6 cases of mosaicism trisomy 10 have been reported so far. None of these reports pertain to living children with neurological abnormalities.

Case presentation

We report the case of a 14-month-old girl who was brought for treatment of unusual facies, growth retardation, and patent ductus arteriosus. Karyotype analysis revealed a 47, XX, + 10/46, XX pattern. MRI showed characteristics of Dandy–Walker syndrome and ventricular enlargement in the brain.

Conclusions

This case is distinguished by its extreme rarity and its potential for use as a reference case of this condition in clinical settings.

Hyperostosis - an unusual radiographic presentation of Myelodysplastic Syndrome transformed to Acute Myeloid Leukemia

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is also referred to non-lymphocytic leukemia in the literature. It comprises about 15% of the childhood leukemia. There are multiple subtypes of AML from M0-M7 with approximately 45% of the cases being M0-M2 and the remaining subtypes being rare. The definitive diagnosis relies on bone marrow biopsy showing bone marrow infiltration with leukemic cells. We describe a rare radiographic presentation of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) transformed to AML in an 8 month old boy who presented with a orbital wall fracture, periosteal reaction, and mixed lytic and sclerotic lesions.

Trisomy 10 as the sole abnormality in biphenotypic leukemia

We observed a case of acute biphenotypic leukemia with trisomy 10 as the sole abnormality. The patient was an adult male diagnosed with ALL(L2), Cell marker studies showed positivity for CD3, CD7, CD13 and CD33, so the phenotypic diagnosis was determined to be biphenotypic leukemia. No case of biphenotypic leukemia with trisomy 10 has been previously reported, until now.
