Linear keratosis follicularis: a specific entity? Report of a case responding to combined topical retinoid and alpha-hydroxy acid therapy

Acantholytic dyskeratotic epidermal nevus induced by ultraviolet B radiation

We report a case of acantholytic dyskeratotic epidermal nevus induced by repeated ultraviolet B radiation in a 16-year-old Korean girl. She had experienced pruritic skin rashes on the right side of the abdomen and flank area in a zosteriform distribution for the past 10 years. They were aggravated during the summer and spontaneously disappeared in the winter. Papules revealed acantholytic dyskeratotic cells that were diagnosed as acantholytic dyskeratotic epidermal nevus. Suberythemal and erythemal doses of UVB were irradiated to the lesional skin (right side of abdomen) and nonlesional skin (left side of abdomen) for 4 consecutive days. UVB-induced pruritic papules were observed on the lesional skin and a biopsy specimen of the papules also showed acantholytic dyskeratotic cells, which were compatible with acantholytic dyskeratotic epidermal nevus.

Lines of Blaschko

The lines of Blaschko represent a pattern followed by many skin disorders. We review the clinical and histologic features of X-linked, congenital/nevoid, and acquired skin diseases that follow these lines. We also include cutaneous disorders that have a linear distribution but do not follow Blaschko's lines. Finally, we differentiate Blaschko's lines from other patterns on the skin such as dermatomes and Langer's lines.

An acantholytic dyskeratotic epidermal naevus with other features of Darier's disease on the same side of the body

Many epidermal naevi with the histology of Darier's disease have been reported. In the absence of associated features of Darier's disease, they cannot be assumed to have a common pathogenesis with it, and it has been suggested that they are better classified as acantholytic dyskeratotic epidermal naevi rather than naevoid Darier's disease. We describe a patient with such a naevus who had typical nail and palmar changes of Darier's disease on the same side of the body. We suggest that in at least some cases the naevus has the same genetic defect(s) as generalized Darier's disease, and discuss the possibility that a patient with such a naevus could occasionally transmit Darier's disease to an offspring.

Acantholytic dyskeratotic epidermal naevus in a patient with guttate psoriasis on PUVA therapy

A 79-year-old male with psoriasis developed a zosteriform acantholytic dyskeratotic epidermal naevus during PUVA therapy. The eruption was successfully treated with etretinate 0.75 mg/kg/day and a subsequent course of PUVA with the affected area covered prevented a recurrence of the naevus.
